  • Sanford/Townsend hit #9 in Billboard, 9-17-77. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • I heard this song on the radio here in Tampa the other day on my way back from school. I'm so glad that I remembered the main chorus so that I could find this gem.

  • Why cant i find the orignal version of this song thats not from a record player, Please anyone tell me where i can find it. Thanks Bill

  • You go railwalker1, The heck what everybody else says! At least your trying!

  • @purplerocks72 --Got a new record player,! It'll do all kind of fancy stuff but first I've got to figure out how to put it together,,That may take me awhile --

  • @RandomConcepts --Got a record player,a record and a little grey camera--best I can do!

  • I want a Tandberg cassette deck. Always liked those.

  • Ed Sanford also co-wrote "I Keep Forgettin" by Michael Mcdonald.

  • music sounds beter from records any way its mor soothing.

  • Hey I like the song... this was the SUMMER of '77 I just graduated High School and was waiting for September to roll on by because I was headed to USAF Basic Training....

  • Billboard's #67 song of '77. 'Don't let the screen door hit you, on your way out.' Best line in the song. The S/T band hit #9 pop, #34 AC in Billboard. God bless!

  • One of the best songs of the '70s and one of my all time favorites. Extremely well produced. I love vinyl and don't mind the original 45. I see no mp3 studio versions up so I'm assuming that they are being blocked. Thanks for posting!

  • Nothing beats the sound of an old 45...thank you for posting this:)

  • love this song! love it in the 70s and its still has great today. what menories! thanks for the for putting it out there for all who love it can share.

  • Thanx for posting this!! I have the exact same 45, I don't have to put it on the record player now because of vids like this. I love 45 vids!!

  • What a great memory! Years ago where I live (Suffolk, England) we had a station called Radio Orwell that broadcast loads of this kinda stuff (this one alongside Ooh Child (Valerie Carter), So High (Dave Mason), Say You love Me (Patti Austin), Le Reve (Ricky King) and dozens of others). Music was oodles better in those days - thanks for posting this long-lost one.

  • Is your version of this single Warner Bros 8370, and if so is the band identified as The Sanford Townsend Band or The Sandford/Townsend Band?

  • @OgilvieMike --Can't check the # right now but Sanford Townsend Band is listed as artist in my record inventory.. ..Think I probably added the / --can't type ,hate trying too,, Didn't take typing in High School , took Cosmotology-- can't fix hair either.. .But I hum a lot ,I'm very good at that!!!!

  • Superlative recording--you can really hear the authenticity of the album. This is a physical piece of music history.

  • Terrific song. I just loved this song, it meant a lot to me because it represents a very special time/situation in my life. Thank you for the post and the subsequent sweet, sublime memory!!!

  • A hidden & overlooked gem from 1977. Ah, such carefree days, when great music was being made! They sure don't make great songs like this anymore!

  • thanks for this. I don't like LIVE versions!

  • I just love this song!

This was one of my favorites in my younger days - 19yrs old then

    Carol

  • Low tech, no tech, high tech, who cares! Great song railwalker1!

  • You don't stack up, so slack up and pack up, I just don't care.....

Don't let the screen door hit you....on your way out.....

    Great horn section......

    Great tune..Ads and Big Joe!!!!

  • i think this song & Sweet Va Breeze sound very similar

  • Pretty good recording for Low Tech...Yes Scoot...Its a Turntable...

  • Hit #9 in Billboard. 1 hit wonder.Sure wish they had more hits than just this 1. God bless!

  • 1977

  • great tune ...bitter sweet memories, that's all you have in the end

  • Great tune! Itz what i played for an old girlfriend when i figured out what she was doing. "Don't let the screen door hit you on your way out. Doncha drown when your dreamboat runs onto the ground."

  • Anyone over the age of 45 knows this GREAT feel good song! Not to mention a wonderful vocalist.

  • @saladshop

Im way under 45 sal and I know this is a great feel good song

  • Thanks for putting this song up. Cut off a second too soon though.

  • railwalker1, I truly enjoyed you playing this song the same way I did when I bought this 45.

Continue doing what you are doing.

  • Talk about low tech! Is that a turntable?

  • I 'm not just low tech -I'm no tech at all..Our records were bought to be played-and they have been over and over year after year on our Rock-ola Jukebox or on whatever record player we've got handy,..This paricular one is not only Low Tech--it was also dirt cheap, ,

Got no fancy equipment ,no prize winning Video's---do have some great records, wanted others to hear and love them too....For me It's all about the Music

and nothing beats the real thing..

  • No but you at least have that turntable plugged into your computer via an RCA cable right? You can convert the analog signal form the record into an MP3 file right? Don't tell me you just recorded the song using the camcorder microphone. No one is that low tech!

  • Got a microsoft camera hanging from record player--camera plugged into my computer..That's it --if I can do other stuff I have no idea how....Wouldn't have gotten this far without the Kindness of the YouTube Community, especially Brrr...

I did this for Fun and because I love the music ,the people I've met here have been an unexpected and much appreciated Bonus..Doubt I'll ever be High Tech, just happy that I got this far.. .

  • @railwalker1 hey - you got almost 20,000 views and one moaner with that ole' turntable! Loooooooove it dude!

  • @railwalker1 KEEP DOING IT!!! I do it on my channel. I love this song. Keep it up.

  • lmao of course its a turn table thats an album man, thats when times were good and living was fun

  • extra special thanks because i live in the dorms right now and i cant have shared files

  • Do you have access to a turn table with RCA jacks that could actually plug into your computer and convert it into MP3? The reason I ask is because the quality would be 90% better.

  • Thanks for putting this up. I don't like the live versions.
