As for the spores being blocked by some metal alloy? Well, do you suspend your disbelief when you watch a bunch of transforming robots from another planet, an unorganic planet at that?
@Hawkgold I know its a metaphor and its a great one. My suspense of disbelief isn't so thin that I can't handle the spores also being virusses yet being radiation. (especially in a show like transformers) The thing was that this was made in a time where shows would just throw around all these sciency terms without any care in the world for what they meant. Nowadays shows tend not to do that as much trying to stay 'realistic'. I wasn't trying to be negative. Its just something I noticed.

Besides, Ultra Magnus LOST the matrix to Galvatron (and got blown to pieces for his efforts). Hot Rod's befriending Wreck-Gar and the Junkions led to the Junkions repairing Ultra Magnus, anyway.
I always did consider this episode the end of the cartoon. I never was satisfied with "The Rebirth" and this ending makes more sense to me. Optimus Prime is back alive again, he's in command of the Autobots again, the war could be technically over because of what Galvatron said, really all is said and done (lol touch reference). In my opinion, a great end to a great series. Go TRANSFORMERS!

This makes no sense. If Optimus Prime can use the matrix to find the cure, why couldn't Rodimus Prime (before he got infected) do the same? Or why couldn't the matrix have cured him, after he got infected?
@MCWAY1 Rodimus had to have near-death experiences to access the Matrix's wisdom. I'm guessing that since Optimus experienced death he could access it in a way no one else could. And simply having the Matrix won't let you access its' full power.
even if the matrix granted rodimus prime status (when optimus was dead) when prime came back the matrix automatically shut off and reserves itself for optimus. :)
@focusandcreate In the close up they do right at the end, it's the Rodimus character model. The Hot Rod one has less lines. I believe they're using the right CM leading up to that point. Also his scale is WAYY off (But that's not really a big problem for G1)

optimus prime is the only leader that the autobots will ever need, there is no one that can replace him, not rodimus( hot rod) prime, or ultra magnus,they are not in his league.

Even at 35 years old, I still find this is just good entertainment. I wish the live action movies would have been half this good. They only thing Bay got right was peter Cullen to do Optimus' voice.
Is it just me, or was the ending of this old, animated children's show from the 80's, about 100 times more epic than any of the Michael Bay films? Even the last scene, with them "rolling out" was shot at a great angle.

@mynyun Good question, especially since it's happened in another episode when Rodimus gave up the Matrix, and reverted into Hot Rod. However, remember after Optimus Prime and Megatron had their epic battle, and Optimus was on his deathbed about to die? He tried to give the Matrix to Ultra Magnus (tried, because it dropped out of his hands and Hot Rod caught it). From the moment the Matrix left Optimus' hands, shouldn't he have reverted into Orion Pax? Continued....
@mynyun part 2: Unless he could not revert due to their star ship's repairing and adapting him (along with the other transformers) into the form of an earth machine (First episode after they crash-landed into earth). Personally I think the writers didn't really look into such details too much since to them it was just a pay-check! Who knew Transformers would have become so popular that it retains a following generations later!

@mynyun I'm not sure if it would apply to Hot Rod because he was originally built AS Hot Rod and later upgraded to Rodimus by the Matrix. As opposed to Optimus who got rebuilt into a truck AFTER being upgraded into a prime. Who knows, maybe in Optimus's case, what he lost was internal (like strength, endurance, wisdom...all those perks the Matrix grants), since the external shell was no longer the doing of the matrix. Again, I can only guess, since this lack of logic confuses me too! :-)

I had almost forgotten about the moment at 9:18 until a amv a few years ago.
The least Galvatron could do is apologize to Optimus for killing him when he was Megatron.

Is it just me, or was the ending of this old, animated children's show from the 80's, about 100 times more epic than any of the Michael Bay films? Even the last scene, with them "rolling out" was shot at a great angle.

When I was a child, this episode gave me the creeps.
You couldn't defeat this plague with weapons and it could effected everyone next to you. So how to get rid of it?
It was thrilling and also what made this old transformers so special.

If I'm not wrong, Alpha Trion was the former Autobot leader in season 1 who stayed in Cypertron.
I do not know who this guy from 07:04 is. He is an unknown and its not even sure if he was an Autobot-leader.

@gundamWWW actually the Maximals/Predacons was only hundreds of years prior, remember they live a long time, for example shockwave being alive when they crash on earth and sleep till the 80's

So they probably lived 10,000 years ago.
I think the Ark and Nemsis crashed much earlier.
Although the Predacons and Maximals are the decedents of the Autobots and Decepticons.

My question is, Optimus took the matrix from Rodimus Prime. So shouldn't he have turned back into Hotrod.? Or does it have to voluntarily give it up.?

@mynyun Good question, especially since it's happened in another episode when Rodimus gave up the Matrix, and reverted into Hot Rod. However, remember after Optimus Prime and Megatron had their epic battle, and Optimus was on his deathbed about to die? He tried to give the Matrix to Ultra Magnus (tried, because it dropped out of his hands and Hot Rod caught it). From the moment the Matrix left Optimus' hands, shouldn't he have reverted into Orion Pax? Continued....

@mynyun part 2: Unless he could not revert due to their star ship's repairing and adapting him (along with the other transformers) into the form of an earth machine (First episode after they crash-landed into earth). Personally I think the writers didn't really look into such details too much since to them it was just a pay-check! Who knew Transformers would have become so popular that it retains a following generations later!

@Richard1279 Indeed, Transformers has become so popular that there have been many spin offs. But still one would have thought they'd think ahead to all this. And if what you said about Optimus is true (ship repairing him) then wouldn't it also apply to Hot Rod/imus.? Though we've not SEEN him get repaired I'm sure he has to have been.

@mynyun I'm not sure if it would apply to Hot Rod because he was originally built AS Hot Rod and later upgraded to Rodimus by the Matrix. As opposed to Optimus who got rebuilt into a truck AFTER being upgraded into a prime. Who knows, maybe in Optimus's case, what he lost was internal (like strength, endurance, wisdom...all those perks the Matrix grants), since the external shell was no longer the doing of the matrix. Again, I can only guess, since this lack of logic confuses me too! :-)

@Richard1279 Lol, playing devil's advocate to myself: if THAT were true, if optimus had lost the inner qualities, then HOW was he more than a match against Rodimus? Optimus Prime the true leader rodimus did an okay job, the orginal transformes is the bomb they need to put it back, this new crap stinks, Galvatron is ossom, the should have upgraded Prime but with his ressurection he is good as new i guess when he was Orion pax he got a makeover it was Megatron turn, shoot when is Starscream, they need him back as irrating as he was he always challenged megatron or Galvatron
