I tried to save a cicada from my hound once but he ate it. It was a male cicada too (the males make that loud noise). He ate it just so I couldn't have it. What is it with hounds and cicadas?
My Basset likes to kill bugs too....he won't eat them though. He just snaps at them and spits them out. lol I call my Basset the" fly catcher " when we are outside.
BAHAHAHAHA that was fantastic! brings back memories of our bassett Zoe. she lived to almost 13 (was a couple days short of her birthday) and she found a fly once. she tried to put in her mouth but freaked out when it flew around in her mouth and she spat it out, spazzed out in our living room, whipped around and tried again. ah, bassetts and bugs haha XD

such a brave Basset! Killing the bad bug so it wont hurt Daddy! LOL! My girl is the same way about flys. She gets all angry if one gets in the house and she wont rest until its dead...LOL!

Then my hound captured it in his mouth. It was buzzing in his mouth but he didn't care! He just wanted to hoard it! I tried to get it out so I could let it go, but he ate it to death!

My bassett used to do this with bugs and bark at them so loudly you could feel it in the concrete.
