@kodiak450r I think that's what made michael hedges so fucking awesome. Just one dude up there churning out great songs all by himself. Like when Neil young went solo.
Showing my age, 56, I had never heard of this guy before wandering around YouTube listening to my favorites from long ago. This guy really rates genius. He brings a wholly unique interpretation to what he does. I watched this after watching him do All Along the Watch Tower. I have to agree with with Kachina 25 - this Hedges kid is in a league of his own - only from what I gather of other posts, I imagine he has died. A real shame.
People, please stop comparing Michaels arrangements to the originals. It really bugs me that you guys can't see the appeal in both and admire it as it's own take on the song.
It's like comparing an apple to an orange, sure they are both fruit, but the qualities are completely different and have their own flavour.
@SZiuAlu Blasphemy? What, did someone have some snark to say about Clapton? ;-P~~
More to the point: every time I've seen the Stones play "Gimme Shelter," it has been good, enjoyable, and firmly aimed at their target demographic--there are good reasons for those gentlemen's bank balances.
Hedges, though, seems to delight in the song for the song's own sake, which renews the piece, and elevates it to a point beyond where the mass appeal approach of the Stones leaves it.
The first time I saw Michael in 1985 in Redondo Beach CA this was his opening song. He came out from the parking lot with remote so the music was playing but you didn't know where it was coming from. He danced through the door and danced into my life and forever wrecked my guitar abilities. RIP Michael.
@kloikos Thanks for introducing me to Michael and dancing into MY life. You have wrecked my focus forever. Can't wait to see/hear your guitar abilities. You drive me crazy!. Your cyber angel.
this guy is just amazing with his guitar .. long time I didn't see another that "crazy" performance .. man just look at his outfit :D I guess the drugs don't work .. but they kinda have contributed to his genious
Anyone can explain me what´s means the numbers that appears in this turning C#2E2B2E3E3B3? I use many open turnings, mostly from the blues, but i never saw this way to write it...
its a great song to begin with''& he takes it to a whole another realm & level''he was an amazing talent''some people that comment don't get it''when some one is playing there own version''if everyone stared at a book & just played note for note''you would never have something like this''this is what is about''make it your own''
This cover (but probably not this actual version) was released on a rare and out of print 1993 album called 'Strings of Steel' - a compilation created for release only in South America to accompany a Hedges tour there.
Go to the Hedges website titled 'Nomadland' for details!
I have the exact songs they have on Strings of Steel that are not on any other albums, such as this song, if you want them send me a message with your email and I will email you them
Yes, you're right, although I thought that for the low-strung guitars like in this video (Martin J65M?) he didn't use the FRAP. In any case, I love that sound he gets.
its all a matter of your style and opinions nahh i havent heard the stereophonics version but i bet it is just as good as this , im just a hedges junkie :)
when a musician can cover a song by himself with no other band members and still sound as powerful as the original, you know he's good. so raymantico in my opinion he "rocks an acoustic guitar" like a pro

I don't hear the periodic "fluttering" from a flanger. Could it be just a phaser?
derekmok 2 years ago
chorus maybe
scarfaceAE21 2 years ago
You can get it with the basic effects, it is chorusing
AlwaysAbiggerFish 2 years ago
He's using a tc electronic 1210 stereo chorus/flanger in pitch modulation mode, on the low strings, treble strings are straight Sunrise mag pickup
mddorogi 2 years ago
He uses it on the Sunrise period, all strings, and leaves the FRAP unaffected..
methodinsane 2 years ago
Yes, you're right, although I thought that for the low-strung guitars like in this video (Martin J65M?) he didn't use the FRAP. In any case, I love that sound he gets.
