Ya know what man... its clear you have never been to philly.. stop watching ESPN and listeing to the national media.. Come to philly and youll see what we all players talk about...how loyal and passionate we are!
Did you not have fans throwing snowballs with batteries in them at the Cowboys in the Buddy Ryan era? Did you not boo Santa Claus and your own Mike Schmidt? Didn't the old stadium have a jail? I'm sure you're passionate, but can be pretty hateful & stupid, too...kind of like Raider fans. Still keeps it entertaining, though..that said, you're probably a decent guy, I don't know.
First, the snowballs and boos were at a drunken bum in a cut-rate Santa outfit back in 1968, and there were no batteries in them.
The batteries were thrown by some asshole at J.D. Drew because he spurned the Phillies when they drafted him..
The old stadium did have a court which was in session during Eagles games, even though that court was clearly against the PA state constitution (Article I, Section 15).
I admit - I booed Mike Schmidt when he was dogging it!
If the Phillies suck, how come they are in first place and the Mets are in 4th place, nearly 20 games back?
Speaking of unassisted triple plays (as Harry recounted in this video), weren't the Mets recently the victim of the 15th one, courtesy of the Phillies?
I never knew he was the Phillies broadcaster until tonight: 4-14-09....but I've heard his voice all over NFL Films....I always loved the voice so much.
Yes, in fact, Harry was the voice of the Phillies from 1971-2009.
He won the Ford C. Frick Award in 2002, which was his ticket to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
He was a class act and a humble man - he never turned down an autograph request or even to record a voice mail message on a fan's cell phone. He answered all of his fan mail personally - sometimes even hand-written!
Sad, sad, sad. The loss of Harry is not just a loss to the Phillies fans and family but to sports in general. He certainly was one of the quintessential sports voices and he will be missed.
It was a very exciting year according to Harry. What a prognosticator! Pitching? Myers came through. "Phillies need someone besides Hamels". Well look what happened TONIGHT. Where's Richie Asburn and By Saam when you need them.
Harry Kalas is the nicest guy in any Major League broadcast booth, period. The man will stop and talk to anyone. He was the soundtrack of my childhood, and it's been a privilege. Go Phils!
Congrats, Philly fans....maybe he was the one guy there you treated with some respect.

That's why he was so beloved in Philly.

I love it when the Phillies are at the LA Dodgers. That way, it's Harry Kalas and Vin Scully. The two greatest announcers in baseball history.
