How can people dislike this??? He's 8!! Jesus Christ but people are ignorant. My 8 year old old self wouldn't have known one end of a drum kit from the other. Keep it up wee man!
You are right start the double bass early I am not a drummer I am a guitarist but guitarists usually start the band and when a guitarist sees a double bass they go he is my man xD but yeah I am teaching myself drums and I started out on a double :)
@SlipFoldSevenknot It is a floor tom with a Pearl bass drum conversion kit. Mostly intended for smaller jazz kits, but since a 22 inch kick was too big for my son, I used this.
OMG, I'm way better and I'm only 45! Ha ha... Just kidding. It's cool that he's into it and I'll bet he'll be a great drummer long before he's out of grade school!
You're supposed to practice both double and single, alternating between the two. Some kids do rely too heavily on the double kick and they lose out on the amazing volume control of playing with one foot.
Great JOB. My son is now 12. People would ask me why at age 5 did he have a double pedal and other stuff on his kit. You CAN play a double as a single without removing it. I wanted him to be able to sit at any kit, that is set up any way and play without taking an hour to move things around and not be intimidated by different stuff. Kids dont get much time to showcase especially with a band. Check him out now at age 12 on my page. jacobthetongue Keep it up as you know, it will pay off BET THAT!
For such a young guy, that's pretty dope. Idk what's up with all the dislikes, i enjoyed this. I'm not gonna lie, im kinda jealous. I wish i had a badass kit like that when i was that young haha.
well one thing wtf no high hat and plus all people should atleast have 4 or 5 peice drum kit he has 2 drums and like 12 symnols but gotta give it to him hes beter than me a the symbols
@GETMORESWEETGRUBS *hi-hat *piece *cymbals *better. He does have an auxiliary hat on the right side, kind of out of view because if the rack. 1 snare, 1 rack tom, 1 floor tom... ummm, that's a 4 piece kit.
Why have a double bass if hes only learning most ppl who learn double bass before they master the single bass use the double bass more and hands less which results in lazyness and bad sound
@Drumstarification UGH. I am so sick of repeating myself. Why NOT learn double kick early on? Is there truly such a thing as mastering single kick anyhow? I played single kick for about 12 years before I bought a double, and I am SO mad at myself for having the same ridiculous attitude that you have. I mean, should they only learn right hand techniques first, master those, and THEN add the left? Umm, no. I have been teaching for 21 years now, and I think it's fine to learn double early.
@jacobthetongue although i agree with you that there's no reason for someone not to learn a double kick pedal, it's also important that he someday learn how to handle himself with a single pedal as well. there are techniques that a person will be far less likely to learn with steady access to a double kicker and unless he learns some of these techniques his feet will always be weaker than someone learning to emulate the double pedal with a single kick.
@chesterburmingham for sure. I don't want people to get the wrong idea in that he HAS to only learn double kick. About 80% of what he plays now is really only single anyhow. I played single kick for about 15 years before I bought a double, and I sure wish I would have started double a lot sooner. It is better to have the skill and not need it, then need it and not have it. In the 22 years I have been teaching drums, I have never regretted starting them early on double.
@jacobthetongue it just depends what's you're prefered style man...I mean I can't come at you with logical points and facts because I know you're older and clearly know like more than I can decribe about drums than I do, but I personally hate double bass and give myself kudos everytime I see a kid my age playing double bass. Yes, you can master single kick..
@jacobthetongue I agree with you. It's better use your both legs equally right at the beginning than years later. Many years could be lost when one leg just don't do nothing, or do very litte.
Holy crap Jacob! Just stumbled upon this, he's awesome!! Great timing for someone his age! Inspired me to go work more on a song I'm learning (Take it All by Hillsong)
no its fine but like he could go on his tiptoes or heel so he can go to a desirable rate or u can just go that speed single on a single bass pedal then after you get faster add the double bass pedal but again i AM ONLY 12.
@john98245 Like I have said above, why NOT have a double pedal? I mean, double pedal is a very common tool in drumming, yet so many people seem to have some sort of issue with it? I don't get it.
@tomofthecheese Where in the world did you get that info? I have been teaching drums for 22 years, and I have never ONCE had a student with an issue of "properly controlling the kick". I can assure you, that learning double pedal is NOT an issue to technique.
@jacobthetongue I totally feel you, there's nothing wrong with a double pedal, but to some people a double pedal is kind of tacky and many people (including me) think that it's good to master single pedal technique before using a double pedal. Also, double bass is only needed in a very limited range of styles. However, I don't think there's anything wrong with having (I have one myself) as long as you don't overuse it. This kid rocks, by the way.
@jacobthetongue, I played for years on a single bass. Later on, I wanted to play a double bass, so I purchased a new set of drums. I tell you, the double bass pedal wasn't an option in my day.......LOL. I have 2 sons that play drums. One is in his 20's, and has been with a band for many years now. My youngest son is 10, ans he's been playing since age 4. He begin on a single bass pedal. However, it didn't take him long to get the basics down and start asking for a DBP.
@thetubezur I too played for many years with only a single (remember back in the day when people called a double a "cheater" pedal? lol ), and in many ways, I am totally fine with that. The early doubles were garbage, so I didn't miss out on much that way. I think it is just nice to have the weapon at your disposal, and be taught how to use it when appropriate. I mean, I use my double pedal for metal and fills, and never even BRING it to 90% of my gigs.
@jacobthetongue oh, no doubt. My new kit, at that time, was a double bass kit. That was back in the day where most of us used one drum head. I can't really see any harm in which method one employs, as kids these days absorb this stuff like a sponge. I would have been like a kid in a candy store if the tecnology was available in my day. When I tell my kids that I paid for my very first drum set by cutting grass and selling coke bottles, they look at me like I'm crazy....lol
@jacobthetongue would you shut up kid..leave him be...if this kid likes using the double bass..then it is none of your business..the important thing is..he is having a good time..so keep your mouth shut
@jacobthetongue I wasn't getting at anything bad. At least not intentionally, I apologize if I have offended you. By the way, You did a good job building that kit!
@mib312 His hi-hat is mounted on the right side, using a Pearl Auxiliary hi-hat mount. Because of the height of the kit, a standard hi-hat stand was just too tall.
@girldrummer4Christ Yes! I modified a standard curved Gibraltar rack, using the 2 curved side bars as the main supports for the rack. From straight on, it kinda looks like a Japanese temple! lol. I have used a number of racks in the past, and I swear by the Gibraltar rack system. SUPER solid.
Yeah, and I am pretty picky about the tuning of my own kits. Unfortunately, the camera isn't picking up any of the tone of the "kick". I use an Evans EC2 on the batter and a G1 on the reso. I use a Gibraltar tone control on the outside of the batter to tighten it up, no internal muffling.
@passion4drums I disagree actually! While Moon Gel is great for removing overtones, I think it is much more difficult to tune with it on. The overtones should be used as part of the tuning process. Also, I prefer zero external muffling. I WANT the drums to have some resonance. I don't even muffle my own kick drums, just use an EMAD on all of them.
