  • If you think skins is dark you've got to watch 'This is England'

  • @alsy23 yeah it's good but sad

  • @mrfwest Justin Bieber is canadien

  • Wait. There is a US version of life on mars?

  • Supernatural is the greatest show to come out of America.

  • I feel UK television has grittier humour, we're not afraid to be extra crude and disgusting and weird, I watch tons of American shows and I always get the sense the dialogue is missing something, like it's edited. UK shows tend to show more realistic dialogue, the stupid and irrelevance of it, the real things teenagers talk about. As most Britons are agnostic or athiests, shows are less censored. This is because we are far less uptight, and more chilled :)

  • Love skins, but Gilmore girls is wicked too (completely different/ incomparable but good all the same)

  • @mrfwest

Total bulshit coz they wrote their own songs and turned out to be the biggest selling music artists ever. ( a lot of the sales coming from the U.S by the way )

  • and generally it works, because as well as producing quality show, BBC 1 consistently; like 90% of of prime time will get the highest ratings, other channels like channel 4, which Skins was shown on, look at the BBC and are more willing to take risks against what their market research is telling them. I think because the BBC will get the same amount of money from the domestic market at least regardless of whether a show gets high rating, they're more willing to take risks

  • Most television shows especially in America seem to be largely based of market research, the problem is when you try to make a show based on the preferences of 100's or 1000's of people you end up with a disjointed, inconsistent mess. I feel the BBC is largely responsible for Britain's generally better quality of television, it doesn't have to worry too much about ratings and can therefore especially say,' O public, what the fuck do you know about making T.V. shows, leave this to us' .....

  • Either country's shouldn't "steal" each others shows because the cultures are SO different that it just ruin's them. We would never be able to take the shield from USA because we don't have anti race gangs like USA or guns but the USA can't take misfits from us for example because of the culture difference.

  • From the UK here :) I would say that the UK's drama/ comedy shows are more focused on reality so teenagers can actually relate to them. Also america has a huge religious aspect so if our skins was shown there on the main channels then there were be a few problems. hope I helped :)

The British version of the life on Mars is so good

  • @mrfwet

But yet the beatles are the biggest selling artists ever?? Funny that especially how small England is compared to America.

More English is the top 10 best selling artists than any other country

  • @1EnglandzFinest1 the Beatles is a con artist ban. almost everyone of there song were stole from an american artist. the Beatles were and always will be a joke. justin beiber sells alot too?

  • Why do the comments on these vids always turn into a "UK has everything better and US stuff is crap" , it's so 2005 and getting quite old.

  • @mrfwest

Actually I'd say Britain run the music in all it's history through the beatles, led Zeppelin, Elton John and queen?

  • @1EnglandzFinest1 beatles, Zeppelin, Elton John and queen? ( rock & roll is american ) they copied from the US rap, R&B, motown, pop, country, jazz, rock ( all american )

    M. jackson, areosmith, elvis, bb king, i can go on and on and.... american is music

  • America ruined something again... hooray...

  • @hanseykemmerer wrong. that show is not american. it was filmed in canada, directed in canada, produced in canada and the actors where Canadian.

there wasn't one american involved in that show?

  • @mrfwest Then why was it shown in the US?

  • @hanseykemmerer Because they toned it down a hell of a lot. The English version had full sex scenes in it, apparently they had to cut a lot of these out for American TV.

OP - As an English teen, I find that a lot of people my age would agree with you about American shows having a 'fake' aspect to them. I think that's why shows such as Skins, Outnumbered (Seriously, check this out - Ramona Marques = LEGEND in England), and The Inbetweeners do so well is because of their honesty and reality.

  • I think Skins is overrated, some series are ok, but for the most time I find it to be really depressing and way over the top. The Inbetweeners is more funnier and realsitic for young people. They kinda have the same situations as they do in Skins but with the inbetweeners, they make the situations more embarrassing and cringe-worthy so its more enteraning to watch in my opinion

  • The inbetweeners is way more realistic than Skins when it comes to teenagers in the UK in my opinion. And it's hilarious.

  • I forgot to mention....actor Will Smith said recently he was watching TV in his hotel while in the UK....he turned on one of Britains biggest soaps "Eastenders"...he said he was instatly hooked by how gritty and real it was compared to US shows and how good the acting was...said he couldnt take his eyes off it and ended up watching a whole 2 hour omnibus. lol

  • We get Americas big celebs on chat shows here in the UK and they are often left shocked by some of the things we say and do on TV,often saying "WOW we cant get away with that back in America" they cant believe it.

We use real people in UK shows were US use fake people,we go for acting talent over fakeness/beauty.

Were alot more edgy and open in the UK.

Janet Jackons tit fell out on US Tv it caused huge outrage...in UK its no big deal...was just a tit! lol

  • No one does media like the UK.

  • Watch the inbetweeners :)

  • Shameless, Skins, The Inbetweeners, Misfits. All amazing British shows, but if you take them to the USA, they just become glossy. The US Shameless and Skins are AWFUL comepared to the originals.

And if they did have a US Inbetweeners, would they get anywhere to show it? I mean the US is so censored, that nowhere would play it.

  • I'm American and to be honest with anyone I haven't seen a single British tv show because they usually SUCK all are shows are BOSS I meen be honest were awesome!!!

  • @PleaseButterMyToast if your "awsome" why does the hole world hate you?

  • @PleaseButterMyToast you do realise that many big American Tv shows are copies of British shows yeah?

    got talen,pop idol,x factor,skins,shameless,topgear,the office,dancing on ice,dancing with the stars,life on mars,who wants to be a millionare,weakest link...the list is endless

  • @athleticguyUK only 2 of those shows are remotely popular. there are more brittish people watch thoes shows that americans

  • @mrfwest Like i said,ud be suprised at just how many of Americas top TV shows are British....i only named a few...there are hundreds.

Many of the shows are popular world wide.they all watch the original British versions. Also shows like Po Idol,X Factor,Got Talent etc etc, most countries in the world have their own versions.

What 2 are remotley popular? Topgear is one of most watched shows on earth, same with Pop Idol and X factor and Got Talent <<<there huge in America!

  • @athleticguyUK " Pop Idol and X factor and Got Talent " those are talent shows. they aren't anything original. America did talent shows since the beginning of tv...... btw top gear isn't popular in america. i haven't seen that show, or every heard someone talk about that show ( except Brits on YouTube ) i could name plenty US shows the world watch. i could name shows UK copied.

most of the shows in the uk suck. you couldn't name 10 shows worth watching

  • @mrfwest Well yes Britain has been doing talent shows since the beggining of time...but remember Britain was around thousands of years BEFORE America was even born.

U havent seen Topgear??? its only watched by billions worldwide and America has copied it 3 imes now (yes 3 times) Topgear has a HUGE American fanbase.

Also look up how the British versions are a great sucess worldwide...then look up and notice how the America copy cat versions fail and get axed, sometimes after just 1 show.

  • @athleticguyUK " remember Britain was around thousands of years BEFORE America "

no, i dont remember Shakespeare doing talent shows.... btw i was talking about tv. no top gear doesn't have a huge fan base in America. how many copy cats fail? american dont even watch those shows.... original or copycat...

i could name hundreds running US shows popular around the world. i thought you were going to name 10 uk shows worth watching

  • @mrfwest Also dont forget many top Hollywood films are British, written, directed etc by British people.

Also many top Hollywoods films are filmed here (or parts of films) for instance Batman The Dark Knight directed by a Brit and many scenes were actualy shot rite here in my small countryside town in 2 giant airhangers.

Parts of Zombieland are filmed here,Superman Fortress,Star Wars films,Alien films (with sigourney weaver) The list is endless.

many either written by Brit or filmed here.

  • @athleticguyUK ( part 2 ) do you know how expensive it would be to shut down any US city to make a movie ( especially new york city) it would make sense to film a movie in some small town in another country. people would film entire with there phone if they didn't.

no, most movies aren't directed by British people and zombieland wasn't a top Hollywood movie. it wasn't even big budget. it cost about 25million

  • @mrfwest I never said MOST films i said MANY Hollywood Films are either written by a Brit or are made in Britain.

Like Brad Pitts new film World War Z, they have turned the city of Glasgow in to Philidelphia, brought in US road signs,US cars, its all totaly crazy.

And who cares...BOTH US AND UK make, create, Films/Movies,TV shows and sell them all across the globe.....realy who gives a fuck! lol

  • @mrfwest so you are saying that the American office isn't popular? Americas got talent? American Idol? Dancing with the stars? Life on Mars? Hells Kitchen? The Weakest Link? Whose Line is it anyway?

Not to mention the hundreds of American/ Hollywood films with British origins. Ultimately whichever way you look at it, British TV is of a higher quality, more real, and more unique. Whereas you could watch 10 different American shows and they could all be seen as the exact same program.

  • @mikebear123 bullshit. UK stole " talent shows from america " star search " for every one good UK show i could name 10 better american shows.

    the wire

    the serpanos

    breaking bad

    etc....etc

  • @mrfwest The particular shows I mentioned are originally from Britain, the same shows just half the time with America slapped in front.

To be honest, you would excpect a country thats like 40 times bigger than the UK to have a few more good TV shows, but in terms of overall quality British TV is better.

For every 100 odd shows America churns out Britain makes 1. So you probably would have more good programmes.

  • @mikebear123 china is 4 times the size of the US yet we make better shows. so that doesn't matter. the UK really only have 5 shows worth watching.

it really doesn't matter who make better shows because i will watch all of them, the point is... UK shows are mostly crap

  • @mrfwest dude, you have smth against the UK or what? let us have our own opinion about British series.

  • @djdiu you can.... i have no problem with that.

if you guys feel the to compare with us, go ahead. i don't care. just don't let you inferiority complexes get in the way facts.

  • @mrfwest inferiority complexes? are you on drugs or something? :))

  • @mrfwest

    bull

    shit

  • We British cannot make films. The USA is definitely the KING of music, film and television. UK Skins, inbetweeners ect are as fake as they come - the acting is hopeless again fake, and also these shows potrays england as a drug/thug capital of the world when in fact the UK isn't as bad as the shows make out. the teenagers in these shows are not real or true to what's really happening in UK,and the production is terrible-we British cannot make films.American film is everything nobody can touch USA

  • @MegaSwissWatch Funnist comment on youtube from a Brit. Go live in the US cause you dont really get UK culture if you believe what you have written. US king of music??? HAHAHA

  • @ProjectLonely haha well that's because I'm not really British I'm South African but I live in Scotland.Maybe you're right because I've been watching US films since I was little so yes it's hard to appreciate British film ect when you have been influenced by America so much. But I still think the production of American tv is magical while british shows are poorly produced in my opinion. To be honest though I wouldn't move to the US because I've lived here for 6 years and so I feel like I'm British

  • @ProjectLonely hip hop, rock and roll, jazz, pop, r&b,country,

all of those are american...how isn't america the "king of music"

  • @mrfwest What Emminem , Guns n roses., Garth brookes and Lady gaga? No thanks, I ll stick to stuff made this side of the pond thanks.

  • I'm from the UK, and I generally prefer the escapism and glamour of American TV. Even your version of Shameless is a little bit glossy. I'm hoping for a US remake of The Inbetweeners, I think it would be brilliant!

  • @xchampbearx problem is America is far too PC, an American inbetweeners would be shite.

  • And also juliane428, why don't you watch the show 'ladette To lady'.. It is about rude slutty australlian teens who go to an English school to learn manners.. Suck on that..

  • @juliane428.. Errrr I would like to point out that uk teens have lives.. And we don't just sit around being good citizens..you only live once so why not make it a good one.. Also why don't you get off your high horse and realise just because people portray themselves as sweet and innocent doesn't mean they are... Ever heard of the saying watch the quiet ones.

  • I am from the uk, and skins uk is very true to real life in the uk, I doubt it is true to life in America (I am not being racist at all here) because in America you are so much more strict when it comes to sex, drugs, alcohol and smoking. In the uk. So I think the story line works in England, but in America it doesn't. I haven't seen the American series but I have seen the trailers and to be honest it looks crap.

  • @georgiegirlly true that, I just didn't buy the American version, it doesn't really fit in there. The US is still too conservative for shows like these.

  • @georgiegirlly LOL you've been smoking toooo much girl, if u go to the average american high school mostly everyone will admit to doing kush, alcohol, sex and a lot more don't make it seem that britain's soo bad cuz compared to the usa, u guys are wack as fuck.

  • @soccerboy965 lol yep, she's British, so she probably has been smoking to much. calm down, it's not a competition. it's just a fact that Britain's more liberal when it comes to teen behaviour than America. chill

  • @soccerboy965 hahahahahahahahahaha america's raped in fucking bubble wrap especially its youth

  • @soccerboy965 wack? lol everyone does drugs drinks and has sex at least once

  • @georgiegirlly hahahaha Skins is the least true to real life TV show ever made. Even the Inbetweeners is more realistic than Skins and that had a guy punching a fish to death. How many groups of 16 year olds all have regular sex, go out drinking without getting ID'd ever, have access to and take every illegal drug, get hit by buses, have their parents divorce and die, get brain damage, attempt suicide, move to New York on no money, get pregnant... It goes on.

  • @spiffcorgi um that sounds like british teenagers to me, coming from a brit

  • @cradams loltroll

  • @georgiegirlly Pretty sure we party like you lot, but our tv networks won't dwell into for a matter I have no clue. For some reason Amercian television doesn't delve completely into how us teens actually party and what we are like. I think they try to put us teens on a pedastool on how they wished we were like, but aren't. Cause trust me we like to have fun, drink, have sex, and do drugs too. America just has stupid censorship rules. Its lame

  • Skins US is a copy of Skins UK, so really, UK is clearly better if they decided to copy it. And I'm from America. Plus if they wanted to be original, they could have created their own story lines. America sugar coats everything when UK shows the realism in everything. Same language, COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY different backgrounds.

  • @DeathCabForDulce6149 I'm sorry, but in no way does Skins represent teenage realism, I mean maybe MORE SO than Skins US, but thats not saying much. For example, most teenagers I know, do actually care about their parents, now of course, this was done once with Sid and his father, which was done well. To me Inbetweeners seems to represent teenagers better (note: better), a bunch of pretentious losers trying to be someone else simply because they havent discovered who they are.

  • Its on netflix! woo can't wait to watch

  • ...Uh We don't have different cultures from people in the US i got many friends in the states and there's hardly anything different in culture, the only difference is they pronounce their R's a bit more... :L

  • One thing thats weird about CW is that they broadcast Supernatural. That show is pretty far from high school drama. (Its a sci fi show about two brothers hunting down supernatural beings). I dont get why CW has the rights to that show at all. Yes they do have the rights to another sci fi show called Smallville, but theres some high school drama in there.

  • About British teenagers: Out of topic, but I've been to and lived in so many countries but the British teenagers are the worst in the world. They are rude, foul-mouthed, thugs you name it. You don't know how bad they are unless you lived in the UK. Australian teenagers on the other hand are much more polite than their UK counterparts. Americans pale in comparison compare to UK teens in rudeness and that's the honest truth...

  • @juliane428 That's so not true! you're decribing 'CHAVS' Yeah we're a crazy fun bunch but chav's what you decribed are the minority and i'm sorry you feel that way about ALL british teens... Don't generlised seen that party kid aussie dude that has parties corrie? or something he's not very nice n' aussie!!

  • I hate that now we have to specify which Skins we're talking about by adding "UK" or "US" in front of it. What the hell is that?! There is only one TRUE Skins! UK! the best, forever!

  • @Daleksaresupreme1 well as true as that may be, the US skins still, unfortunately, exists. -_-

  • I live in the uk, and I much prefer out shows, the uk skins is wayyyyy better than the us skins, and we also have shows like the inbetweeners and misfits. America's teen dramas are gossip girl and 90210 which really don't portray accurate teen life. Most people aren't that rich and powerful which is why I think audiences connect with British tv shows rather than american ones.

  • american shows r a lot better

  • @goblue122394 lol no..

  • @goblue122394 I thought the usa skins was going to be good, but then when i watched it, it sucked.

  • Its because most tv series and films in England are based on real working class England, If you like watching or learning about england

You will like all these progamme if you like skin

The inbetweeners (Teenage sitcom warning though it'll be the rudest and dirtyiest show you will ever watch 08 - present)

This is England (Film 06) - Its about working class england in the 80s

Green Street (Film 05) - Football hooligan film

Only fools and horses (Its a sitcom about a london market trader 81-03)

  • Comment removed

  • they have usa skins now

  • Comment removed

  • american tv is all bout money..its all fake and bullshit

  • they cant say fuck?

    that is fucking stupid

im english and i think that american humour is alot different in that it seems to put emphasis on the punchline if you understand me

and the dramas seem to be far more dramatic and unrealistic and as far as teen television goes it is almost like what each teen culture thinks is cool

for britian its basically drink drugs sex (not just skins)

and for america its like 90210 and gossip girl where everyone is like look how perfect we are!!!

    my opinion

  • @TensaHollowZangetsu we can say fuck on tv but we take those kind of shoes here for younger ages so most of the time kids watch skins and shit like tht so we would have to bleep it out

  • @Tansys360 yeh most of the time kids watch skins here as well

but in cinema there is swearing from ratings 12 and up

and there is a very little amount of people under 12 who watch skins

i think skins is a show were censoreship could seriously take from the story

one of the main characters chris has a catch phrase wich is "fuck it"

    how is that gonna work

  • skins US was really made for american audience and its not like it was made by an american producer. it really wasnt made for UK watchers, and it IS kind of hard watching it without comparing it to the UK version BUT trust me its actually really good if you stop comparing its actually a really good show. probably the only reason why most americans watch MTV now.

  • @gigas94

i taotaly agree and thats what american been use to i love us tv and i love skins and i love the fact i can relate to what they sayin i dont have to think about it cause its british

  • American television is so glitzy, glamourous, unrealistic and generally over-produced. Like, instead of having a fist fight (or no fight at all) American shows would have deadly atomic laser fights just to keep things dramatic.

American shows are so predictable; there will always be a boring love story - the main man getting with the main woman - everyone will be super-attractive and someone will probably get a pie inthe face. Maybe just makes things a little more mature?

  • @JDMangaeyes umm u can stop judgin us on the 5 channels of american tv u get in the uk now........kus on the 3 channels i get here frm the uk r all shit and they speak posh..............and i dnt think all ur channels r like tht well maybe just the british ones lmfao

  • @Tansys360 Lmao. You think we talk posh? Well when 'u type lyk dis' I'm not surprised you think we sound posh because you obviously sound like a complete retard.

  • @JDMangaeyes its called a boston accent retaaad....so im gonna type with it

  • The US is incredibly censored when it comes to television just recently they started branching out and started becoming a lil raw

  • American TV is so unrealistic. I'm pretty sure high school kids in America swear and have sex and get completely shit faced, right? It's just the lines themselves. No one talks like that in real life, and everything seems over acted and unnatural. Maybe its just because im used to british tv, i dunno. It's fine for shows like glee and hellcats or whatever but it just doesn't work for a show like skins.

  • @XcutemintiX ur 100% rite bro u hav to no wut to watch over here cuz most is sum fake azz shit

  • u.s.... love it to death i used to watch u.k but when i saw the u.s i just couldn't help it

  • In the UK, we make shows because it's an artform of expression. We love making them, putting ourselves into them, and praying for an individual outcome. Our actors like to act out of a pure driven love of acting. The USA seems to all be about ratings and money. Not upsetting people. All of the things that shouldn't matter when creation is involved... That is why the UK rocks, and America sucks. In most senses. Thanks for the age of celebrity btw.. it's grrrrrrr *shoots self*

  • @hippychild123 - Dude .. Shut up. Everything is about money and ratings. You think E4 (I think that's the host channel in Britain) puts the show up because they love people and art and acting ? Nope. They do it as all other propaganda in the media just to brainwash teens into thinking about this life style and culture.

  • I think one part of why most people view US television as being bad is that we have so many channels. If you're willing to pay the money you can have close to 1000 channels. Whereas in Britain it's much more condensed (not sure of the exact # of channels) also Britain is generally a lot more open about what's shown and said on TV (hence skins being able to be so good).

Another huge thing is that most companies will stick with safe bets/old formulas when it comes to making new shows.

  • US Skins is fucking awesome. Screw the UK Skins.

  • @jamokae263 have you even seen the uk version?? I really like the us version, but the uk one definitely is a hell of a lot better in a certain ways

  • @JellyandJello29 Yeah, I've seen it, but the US one is better.

  • I bet that the whole cast gonna be burger flipping five years after they graduate lol

  • I actually am a Brit who prefers American TV comedy to Brit...something about UK tv just seems so underplayed and enclosed...too insular (I do love Inbetweeners though) but for things like Skins and Misfits, it just doesn't seem big or grand enough for my personal taste...yeah I have a short attention span without enough Arnie-esque feats of explosions etc haha.

Well I'd take Big Band Theory and South Park any day over Hollyoaks or Skins.

  • Yeah the channel it's shown on here is E4, which is an offshoot of Channel 4. It's the slightly cooler, more teenage/young adult focused channel.

  • British TV is mostly focused on the middle to lower class because of the licence fee but where as the American culture aspires to all things material often worshiping celebritiy, which to be fair we do too, English culture is allot more focused on real life relatable characters. In fact UK skins was originally designed as an answer to the American teen dramas like the OC.

  • I'm American and I love the original Skins! Mtv's version isn't as great - wish they didn't make it.

  • @xXGrEeNaPplEXx1 lol I hope your just trolling, but if you aren't then I have to tell you, you're dead wrong. I'm American and I much prefer the UK version. It's way better.

  • @thejackist okay so i said which ever one u see first but if u seen the us one first then the us one first then okay watever im just sick if all the uk ppl being babys cuz we made a us one..-.-''

  • @xXGrEeNaPplEXx1 Well why not just get the rights to show the original over here in the States? The BBC broadcasts US shows all of the time. Yet in the US (besides BBC America) there are only a few channels that have UK shows, and they only show them at certain times each week, little blocks of time are given to them. They hardly even broadcast current shows. It's mostly just reruns.

  • The channel's called E4,sir! :)

  • Skins (UK version) is a lot closer to UK teenagers than say if we watch gossip girl or glee. Teens in the UK want to have something that they can relate to, in the UK we dont really have teenagers or many cliques.

  • i dont know what America ( i am American ) was so worried about. this is America ,the same country where a kid can buy meth, a gun, a case of beer, and a pack of cigarettes all in front of his school

  • @mrfwest Then they should make a TV show about that. Instead they took the scripts and characters from the one based on UK teenage life. It doesn't translate correctly.

  • Skins uk series season 1

  • After you watch the British Life on Mars, watch Ashes To Ashes

  • I'm finding it a great pleasure at the moment to go through your videos while creating advertisements for a company - thank you for keeping thoughts flowing.

  • the channel your on about is channel four if you wanted to no (and watch black books and spaced both of which are also from channel 4) i loved skins i do fined it more realistic than some american things iv seen (oc, one tree hill) i think its coz i started college when skins season 1 aired and i was partying hard and doing crazy stuff similar to the show.... i could also relate to the charectors.... i think the main thing different to american and english stuff is probably the humour

  • This fatass bores me .

  • Some UK shows that have been Americanised have been really good, like Queer as Folk or The Office. But with US Skins.. the acting is bland and they haven't try to alter it at all. They've traded the gay character for a lesbian cheerleader because it's apparently more appealing to the audience. The Birtish human and culture simply dosen't translate. I hope US Skins gets cancelled, it's just awful.

  • My only experience with British television has been watching Skins, Da Ali G show and a little bit of BBC World News America, all of which I really like. I think the reason (most) American tv sucks is becuase we have a more complex culture than the Uk. We are the melting pot of the world, hence we have a more diverse population. US television has to be careful not to offend any specific social groups. US television is forced to sift through the realism of life and present a pile of bullshit

  • @sccooper791 I don't think US culture is anymore complex or diverse than the UK, population size not withstanding, I think it's more to do with the more religious and superficial culture of the US that's the issue. Skins also attracted complaints and controversy in the UK when it first started, but nothing came of them, nothing changed, and Skins and similar shows continue to air without corrupting the youth or causing the downfall of society.

  • @sccooper791 thats not the case whatsoever. the fact is that a much larger amount of americnas have a stigma when it comes to mentioning words like 'fuck'...in britian it is used a hell of alot after the 9pm watershed

america is better at creating comedies, (for the most part friends, glee,)

    and for better sfx (lost)

but true drama and realism is better from the UK...because in general we produce better actors and the BBC is publicly owned so cares more about writing than viewers.

  • @numba1danman, ye man i liked lost, and friends was good too. You missed the key word in my post, I said (most) US tv sucks. Oh yeah and your a fag for liking glee, but thats my opinion. and lets see, PBS is publicly owned and I don't remember seeing a pair of tits on sesame street. Anyway you guys had Coupling and we had Friends, they're the same thing. Also britcuz if your going to reference good US comedies, you need to watch Weeds, Arrested Developement, and FlightoftheConchords. nowfuckoff

  • @sccooper791 im a fag for liking glee? whether or not glee is about singing or dancing it has some of the best writing within television at the moment, i suppose the foreign press are 'fags' cos they keep naming glee the best tv series comedy

but PBS is quite different from the BBC seen as the BBC has an annual budget of $4billion by far the worlds largest broadcaster.

  • @numba1danman ohhey man, i thought you would have stopped commenting by now. didn't i already tell you to go fuck yourself? anyway must of forgot, but yeah i think your more bent than a Beckham free kick. If you were from the U.S. yout would know that only women watch glee. Some guys might pretend to like the show to get on the good side of a girl, but they don't enjoy it. Haha i also watched the vidsof you, and that only confirmed how much of a douche u really r. Lol ohye and i cud kick ur ass

  • @sccooper791 fuck off yank

  • @numba1danman hahaha i love it, the only thing that comes to mind when i hear the word yank, is the new york yankees. And then I think, wow i hate them too!... See I'm from around Philly and I live and die with the Phillies, so it's just kind of funny....And if I ever catch you in the U.S.of A. Ima add your face to the big book of british smiles, cuz ima knock your fucking teeth out! lol haha no man its all good, im just kidding. lol I think we got off on the wrong foot, your alright. peace out.

  • Nice video.

Soaps are a great example as to how different our shows are. Soaps here are have lower classes issues in them and are played by less attractive people. (although they are still terrible)

Soaps in the US have attractive people in them with botox faces and it seems fake.

  • In the UK and also in the Republic of Ireland too I think that our tv and theirs is the best out of so many countries i feel that we are a lot more willing to take risks on projects while in the us they wont I would love american tv to be different because the shows that have slipped through the net are awesome but it harder in the us to make good tv shows while in the uk less so because of culture i guess but thats my opinion

  • It airs on channel 4 E4 the american versions has been released that gets shown on mtv in the uk and the us

  • we americans are prudes compared to the rest of the world.

    international television rocks!

  • I think the main difference between the two, is that American shows tend to be more glamorized. I love American shows, I do, but British ones seem to "look" more real, people arent airbrushed and such.I think British tv is less censored, and that makes it more realistic. But the stories in both are pretty outrageous. Though, obviously, of course these things do happen, just not to like everyone.

  • Katie FUCKING Fitch! I love her. America has had a pretty long history when it comes to appropriating English programmes. Some show are hits {Queer as Folk} other shows bombed {As If} most of them fail tho, because we now have wider access to international programming so those of us interested in non-American rhetoric have already seen these shows.

  • @AtomicZero I agree, it has become a lot easier to watch foreign television shows, but I wish that there was more saturation of them into the mainstream media. They actually show quite a few current American shows weekly over in Britain, I just some American stations would do the same. And I know I can get BBC American but half the time they just have Star Trek playing.

  • Skins isn't realistic. Skins satarises teenage mentality and the relevant demographic. It's based off of the teenage lifestyle, so the false angst, drug use, heavy drinking is all showed in a graphic way - almost, once again, satarising the way they live. Skins is great because of the way it 'shows' the teenage lifestyle.

Also, American comedy vs British comedy...? No, US humour uses more of bit style compared to the story style of British comedy, the content is the same, albeit, subjective.

  • @SirusTreir

Actually Skins feels quite realistic to me, maybe you grew up in a different community. Obviously there is a little more drama than real life, but thats about it.

  • @TheSkepticalIdealist

I dunno, I get where you're coming from, but then I think of the out-of-this-world circumstances. Well, ok, there are realistic events with quasi-realistic characters. I think the unworldly people in Skins is what gives it that attractive charm - atleast, that's how I feel.

  • @SirusTreir Skins is realistic to a point. You have to understand they aren't saying "this is what all people this age do" they're showing what that there are those teens who do do this. They're also highlighting dysfunctional families (which are becoming more and more prevalent these days.) But of course they have to exaggerate somewhat, if they didn't then they wouldn't be able to get their point across.

  • uk tv is more honest and less censorship allows greater freedom of portraying the lives of these kids. in general, i think british tv is better than american tv.

  • This is really bad... nearly word for word!

I grew up in Bristol and, and life really was like that for me as a student, going to the same nightclubs, just like watching my life back through a screen. i just cant see that the lifestyle, or the script goes with Americans, I always imagine this "OH MY GOD" kind of thing. What next? Shameless USA?! INBETWEENERS USA?! Different sense of humer to Americans completely. It shouldn't be done... Speak the same language but 2 different cultures!

  • @pinkmelonhead Shameless US is actually really good.. but yeah, Skins US sucks a lot.

  • there are no child porn laws in the UK. Everybody sleeps around, get wasted get an abortion at 14 and leave school at 16...

I wouldn't call that progress. It seems English society is failing to nurture a responsible next generation.

I guess little muslim kids will always be around to play the adults for the grown kids.

  • im a 16 year old teen in the USA. all i watch is comedy central, history channel, discovery channel, science channel, and a few movie channels. mtv is pretty dull now, its just a bunch of preppy people being boring.

  • We need better late night porn

  • I love Red Dwarf.

  • i noticed that in the us pilot they used exactly the same lines but removed the sarcasm. tony told sid he had to loose his virginity or they wouldn't be friends with bullying, mocking sincerity in the US version, not as a friendly joke. if americans don't get sarcasm, they should have made the sarcasm more obvious or changed the lines. this changes every characters motives and personality for the worse.

  • Hehe. 13,337 views.

  • America can't depict teenagers ...they don't understand the definition of realism. When I was watching the American version of Skins, I was distracted by the fact that all the characters were dressed in the best and latest fashion. Something so simple as costume design can destroy the effect.

  • If you appreciate English humour, you must watch Peep Show. It is easily the best sitcom on TV.

  • @StreetlightEagle sorry for spamming your video bro, but peep show was funny as hell but soo painful to watch, i couldn't stop watching it!

  • Difference between UK TV and U.S well firstly we're more liberal about the issues and don't censor every word? Althought some things maybe be a bit depressing its reality. It's more realtsic than the U.S version in that way. As the U.S version is more predictable with cheerleaders and jocks etc. Our sense of humour varies alot more.

  • MTV, can't show what E4 can, and that's total rubbish! That's what makes the British Awesome!! I wish I could see the original one instead of this copy. It would be even more popular! I wouldn't even want to know what they would do for seasons 3&4 now they would totally ruin it! They already did with Effy, the American Effy is.... can't even say.

  • @bench20100 you can watch the u.k skins i watched seasons 1-5 here on youtube i think their gonna make skins into a movie as well

  • Let's all just go with Skins UK, without having the nesscessity of watching the American Version. I'm from the states and didn't like it at all. Just like the one girl "Tea" only going to watch her episode, and go watch Skins 5. Skins will always be property of the UK! It's just that we can't watch the original one.

  • i think that anyone who likes skins, whether US skins or UK skins, NEEEDSSS to watch misfits. its another UK program, and its is soooo addicting <3 <3 honestly, i like misfits better than either skins....dont get me wrong, skins is good, but i loveeeeee misfits.

  • The bottom line is that UK tv is more liberal and we aren't as afraid of showing things that may offend conservative people especially on E4 (which is the channel that shows skins) an example being that in the UK skins the character Maxxie is gay whereas in America they've taken his character out and replaced it with another female character.

  • if you like skins you should watch misfits

  • I think it depends on the show. I'm American, and I don't like Skins because i find all the characters just act like idiots, and don't have much of a conscience or emotions, and i can't relate at all. But I also don't like many American shows because they're too cliché, and sugar coated, and unrealistic, so i can't relate to them either. However I would not bash American TV for trying to send a positive message to viewers, i don't see anything wrong with trying to positively influence people...

  • @waterbottlecap100 in the american version they've removed the sarcasm from every conversation. so, for example in the uk version when tony tells sid he has to loose his virginity or they wont be friends its just a joke and they put t in to show they're best friends, know everything about each other and are close enough to joke like that. that whole train of the episode is a joke. in the US version he's not sarcastic and thus is painted as a douchey, girlfriend pimping bully.
