Guys, please go and enjoy the Oktoberfest as much as you like but do not think a moment that it has lots to do with German culture or German history. What once was a single dot in the picture of German culture has long become a mere commercial success and marketing campaign. This is just a party with beer, traditional Bavarian music and food, though a big one. This is of no greater importance to German culture than New Year's on Time Square is for the US. It is just an expensive, big party.

@blackpantera: It may be culture but not German culture per se. Rather money making culture aiming at those who a) want to party and b) think the Oktoberfest is Germany's main attraction and a must-have(been). I can slightly understand why foreigners come there through Bratwurst and beer would never attract me that much. But Germans? So it is the biggest Kirmis with most idiots and drunks. If normal drinking, food and idiocracy gathers and concentrates it is NOT better. BIGGER is not better.

Oktoberfest is NOT a Beerfest. Beerfests are common throughout the world, even in Malta we have out beerfest

Oktoberfest is a festival with traditional Bavarian food, music, songs and obviously...beer

@hungrydead12 It was wedding celebration for an eccentric Bavarian king from the mid 1800s. The locals had such a blast they have celebrating ever since.

I went to oktoberfest 2009 and I wish i was back there.

Honestly, oktoberfest is the place to be, you can never be any other emotion other than jolly.

Good atmosphere and everyone is a laugh.

Im getting ready for 2010.

i feel the same way that you do! i also went to oktoberfest 2009 for the last week and it was the most amazing happiest time ive ever had. you meet so many fun and nice people and the beer is glorious!!
