There are those tears again. A marvelous performance. Marvelous indeed!!!!! Only Tchaikovsky could compose such genious and Ms. Argerich gives it the interpretation composed.
Kimolerik: Many, many thanks for uploading such an extensive list of videos of Martha. She is incredible! I never get tired of listen to her performances, and the inspiration to practice after watching her is priceless!!
Great playing by Martha. Why all the comparisons with Horowitz ?? He made a terrific number of mistakes - by his own admission he thought a show was more important than accuracy. I don't think he was as accurate or as powerful as Argerich.
@rbrtwllc Though I believe that Argerich absolutely idolized Horowitz and after hearing him play, tried to emulate his style and passion in playing, she always claimed him to be the best. I personally think Horowitz was the greatest, but I love Argerich as well; her rendition of Tchaikovsky no.1 is in my opinion superior to that of Horowitz (One has to admit that his performance is really messy at some parts, especially the octaves)
What is this touched by an angle shit! Its genentic! You are a three dimensional expression of your DNA, yours just isn't quite as good as Martha's, that and perhaps the early experiences, but DNA is first. The same with Einstien, either your brain is wired for math or it isn't, you can't TRY to become a genius, its just wired in or it isn't.
Why does everyone love Argerich? Sure, she is a technical genius, but she doesn't have the understanding of the meaning of the pieces she plays, and doesn't have as much dynamic depth. i mean, how much dynamics can you incorporate when you play teh piece x times too fast? I guess people mistake fastness and technical preciseness as virtuosity.
Honey, when you get to her level, we begin speaking in terms of direction and placement, not 1st year students' dynamics. And why do we have to read "compositions" from people who appear to know what the hell they're talking about? We don't. It's simple: you don't pay mind to either:.don't listen to her and don't read your bull. Let those of us who have training and taste not bother with fools like you. So now go and learn "MIchael, Row the Boat Ashore" and get on with your life.
Right? I was just getting mad, because people were being racist to Lang Lang. I don't have anything against Martha Argerich. I just wanted to see how many people on youtube like Lang Lang, and how many people like other pianists. Anyways, why do you care so much? You seem to have time to log on to Youtube almost everyday. If you don't like Lang Lang, don't be racist.
Oh, and I already have learned Michael, Row the Boat Ashore, okay? I'm learning pieces of music like sonatas, and concertoes. Don't be so mean. Remember, no matter how good you are, there will always be someone better. By the way, isn't direction just the way the music develops to a certain point,e.g( a melody or cadenza)?
I think Lang Lang is a technically skilled, talented pianist, and holds his own against modern pianists. With that being said, I do admit sometimes he looks too silly and produces bad quality music. Putting Lang Lang in context with this video... well that would strip him of everything, so I think that's why he has a bad reputation here.
@nidoperepil I compare Horowitz and Argerich quite often, but not to the detriment of my opinion of either. I mean, they're generally regarded as two of the top pianists in the history of recorded music, they both have phenomenal technique and interpretive skills, and to ignore either is to ignore a major part of piano music in the twentieth century.
I compare them when they've both recorded the same piece, because it's always interesting to hear two equally-good, different interpretations.
@BenMcCormack91 I don't think that it is reasonable to compare these two pianists, as Horowtiz is of quite different caliber than Argerich. Indeed Argerich has really great technical skills, though in my opinion she lacks that mysterious quality which truly greatest pianists possess. To me, her playing is almost completely preoccupied with technical and energetic playing approach while other interpretative nuances are given secondary importance
@eltachimetro what is it with people and their illogical hard on for bang bang? i mean seriously. every youtube video that has godlike pianists like argerich and horowitz have to have bang bang spam left by his even more idiotic fans.
This concerto and polonaise are two of my favorite classical pieces and Martha Argerich is a fantastic pianist in both. I don't know what the commentor below meant by foolish/genius--I apparently don't know mistakes when I hear them. But I hear her play and listening to her seems perfect to me. Yet I'm not a technical expert--I think I'm glad.
Lang Lang is a very gooood pianist, but he sometimes too rhapsodical man. Confusal presentation are not equal genial presentation. This awesome concert, Martha has unique technical perfection - see stretta from 5:50 -with a genius' improvisative vision.
I knwo, that my question may result in many thumbs down, but even at this risk I have to ask: Who is Lang Lang? Could you recommend any youtube video with him?
Search him on youtube. The Clown and the shame of the piano. Just listen to him play "fledermause" by Strauss, that is all you need to hear from him and you can get an impression of his playing.
He is a world reknowned concert pianist. He won many competitions including the Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians' Competition. He sometimes plays bad, but you have to look at many of his songs. I think is the best.
And one other gripe....they're not songs, Schumann, Brahms and Schubert wrote songs for voice and piano accompaniment; Tsachi., Liszt and Rach. wrote pieces and conceri. Come on, get your terminology straight so you can add one iota of credibility to what you're writing. God, how many people are we going to be forced to educate on this site?
You don't have to. I am surrounded by people who go to Juilliard. Geez, come on! I realized my mistake when I clicked post comment, but I felt lazy to correct it.
@fanjiatia - Hi again, Fanny. And I, too, was surrounded by people from Juilliard, Mannes and The Manhattan School of Music when I was working on a degree from Juilliard.
