Nice Carp' Have you ever tried eating them before? I have seen on Food network about a few restaurants in the south and in the west that carp is their big seller. I am asking if you ever tried it before? We get some big ass carp here in Georgia, but i would hate to catch one kill it and not like the meat.

@exeller8007 Bow fishing is even harder when compared to hook and line, and likely has the same outcome. Hook and line, you'll catch a good number and a couple of them can get hooked in the gills and may die. Bow, they die, but you catch less fish.
Anyways this is an Asian carp, one of the most disgusting things in our waterways. They breed fast and outcompete the native species.
If you actually do hunt, then there is a worse outcome from your activities as opposed to bow fishing.

Carp are an invasive species not native to North America, they were brought over from Asia and Europe. The feeding and breeding behavior of carp destroys the habitat in which they live. They push natives species out and cause tremendous harm to the ecosystem. Any and all methods to remove/kill carp should be employed. These are facts, like it or not. Canada and the US have spent millions on trying to find solutions to keeping carp out of certain waterways.

They are pretty gnasty and extremely common in polluted or impaired waters. They also eat a ton and can potentially outcompete more desiriable native fish...Bottom line, They are like cats, you can eat them, but I wouldn't.

@HDPCGamesProductions carp are not regulated. and you need to know your target before you shoot it. the carp had overrun this creek and it is the only fish left in it. so identification was not needed.
@Morclaw Invasive is kind of a buzzword for biology. Commons are just as invasive/nonnative, but they are much more established and have been around for a lot longer. once a species becomes established there is little that can be done. hence why there is much more emphasis put on newer introduced species to try and either eliminate the population or curb their expansion. All the carps are from Asia.

Has anyone tried bow fishing?... its not easy, the only thing I find wrong with thid video is that there was a guy on the opposite side of the creek from the shooter, which in Australia at least is illegal, besides that, it was a very skillful shot to even hit it, and as long as it was eaten, its aloud to go through pain... go watch a lion eat a zebra and tell me that its painless :P

Carp are an invasive species not native to North America, they were brought over from Asia and Europe. The feeding and breeding behavior of carp destroys the habitat in which they live. They push natives species out and cause tremendous harm to the ecosystem. Any and all methods to remove/kill carp should be employed. These are facts, like it or not. Canada and the US have spent millions on trying to find solutions to keeping carp out of certain waterways.

@gdog48001 You can eat anything you want...I wouldn't recommend it. Common Carp are a extreme generalists and can live in the most foul environments. They are pretty gnasty and extremely common in polluted or impaired waters. They also eat a ton and can potentially outcompete more desiriable native fish...Bottom line, They are like cats, you can eat them, but I wouldn't.

@gdog48001 sorry for the double reply, but I forgot to add, people generally leave them on the bank for raccoons or insects ect. so the resources are generally returned to the watershed pretty quickly. but most watersheds are impaired by increased resources from agricultural runoff and wastewater treatment plants anyway

Commons are just as invasive/nonnative, but they are much more established and have been around for a lot longer. once a species becomes established there is little that can be done. hence why there is much more emphasis put on newer introduced species to try and either eliminate the population or curb their expansion. All the carps are from Asia.

@HDPCGamesProductions A carp cannot be mistaken for any other fish, so shooting the wrong fish isn't going to happen. Carp are also considered invasive in most areas of the US. The DNR wants people to remove as many as possible. Whether it's by bow fishing, regular fishing, heck they even poison them sometimes. For native fish to survive, the carp have to go.
