  • thats better than chuck mangione!

  • wait? how is it playing if a trumpet requires the vibrations of lips?

  • Pinocchio song. Nice...

  • thats very cool

  • asimo is better!!!!!!!

  • now robots need hobs too? go build a car.

  • Chuck Mangionebot has got some serious competition.

  • Toyota can you make a woman with no brain, with pussy, regular tits, with a hole in the ass, knows to cook, that doesnot spend thousand in make up and clothes, doesnot smoke, dont use drugs, can give me blow job lol lol, of course dont get pregnant please and she not wanna married, and dont buy food in cans cuz is has to much shit what more o and dont divorce cuz they get everything lol lol....yeahhh i know thats impossible well for less i tryed lol lol lol.

  • @thesolokaraoke What language do you speak?

  • @thesolokaraoke Ever heard about writing in sentences??

  • bring it on My Mariachi yeaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • when this robot apocolypse comes we shall manage tasks and say C+A+D shut down program!

  • さすがはトヨタ、パクリがお上手!

    Great TOYOTA! Loves chasing after.

    (They just create copied, Always.)

  • lets call it a nazi and beat the 01010011100 out of it!

  • @BloodyRedboi5

    01110011 01101000 01101001 01110100

  • it seems to use diffrent sttings of pneumatic pressure with diffrent vibrations of th mouth.

  • heh, one thing I noticed is that this guy cannot do various ARTICULATIONS, which are very important on brass instruments. anyways, very impressive development to make some robot "buzz" like that...

btw the left hand floating in the air is just.. unnatural and they have to do something about that.

  • you can't just blow through a trumpet and make a note. A flute, you can. I am a trumpet player and you have to buzz your lips to play. I believe the keys moving, that isn't fake, but the embouchure doesn't convience me.

  • dude it probly has like rubber flaps that vibrate when air passes through.

  • yeah, well im a mellophone player and a flute player and notes dont just come out if you put air through the thing.

they use rubber and shit that changes pressure variations in the air column that create vibrations to go through the horn.

flutes hard to play too, ya paperclip.

  • maybe it has a special mouthpeice?

  • Exactly what I think!

  • Clever robot. Apparently, though, they spend millions on developing the robot, and ran out of money just before they could license any decent music. Though the robot is technically magnificent (I've played the trumpet for more than a decade), it apparently doesn't know any good songs.

  • Actually, it knows the Lupin the Third theme. There's a video of that robot and three other robots playing it.

  • yea, how the hell is this supposed to be of service and aid the general public? it's pointless and a waste of money.

  • Progress and new inventions can come out of just doing things for the fun of it. Just because the robot doesn't serve humans in some way doesn't make it a waste of money. I mean by your logic art is a waste of money because it doesn't have a tangible function.

  • preprogrammed = crap

give that robot a different sized trumpet and it wouldn't work anymore

  • i play trumpetand he is better than me and a paino is to!

  • that thing is kind of creepy

  • it doesnt blow.. but it is programmed to press the right notes

  • The Honda ASIMO is way better!

  • yeah this thing is pre-programed! the Honda asimo can actually be controlled.

  • True. Actually, ASIMO is AUTOMATICALLY controlled, haha.

  • it's a fine thing put its a bit pointless cause musics about expression anyway and that thing cannot do so cause it has nothing to express and every known piece of music has already been recorded so theres no need on a commercial bar music form

  • exactly. to the robot, its just programming. music to people is a drving force. to the machine its nothing but protocol.

  • looks like an elf

  • I want to see a band made of robots!

  • animusic!

  • Anyone who thinks this is realy a robot playing the trumpet is gullible and/or without knowledge of what it takes to produce the sound on a brass instrument. It is obviously a recording. No machine could coordinate the lip buzzing and fingering to go with it. A machine could blow air through a horn and maybe even do the fingering mathematically, but to produce that tone? No way. A human takes years to develope that ability and the tissue of the tongue and lips would have to be human to do so

  • Then you are obviously ignorant. This is Toyota, not some April fools prank.

  • I totally know what you are talking about. I play the trumpet and the only way for a robot to play a brass instrument is if you chopped the lips of a human and glued it on or something. this is obviously fake. its entertaining, sure, but it's obviously an artificial sound, not that of the instrument. don't worry about duncan im going to reply to him.

  • This is not fake. I know so because if you have seen some of the videos of this robot it shows that the robot is playing the music through a real trumpet and using wind to blow through it.

  • dude I've already had this conversation with a weird english guy and I've already admitted I was wrong so DON'T MAKE ME GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN ARTARD!

  • i wonder if it sucks as well as it blows? where can i get one to find out?

  • i am sure that they are not for sale:)

  • everything is for sale somewhere!

  • ooooook

  • This inspires me to get back to playing my trumpet. Haven't touched it on a year and a half.

  • the robot has rubber/silicone lips that would probably allow it to buzz, thereofer making the noise, as for the notes, well youd be amazed at what technology can do these days. they programmed it to know all the lip pressures and air speeds. apparently they can also program it to do musicianship skills like vibrato...

  • Theres no way its lips could be buzzing. i think its a recording

  • distruggete questo affare.

  • No, that's dumb. Your lips don't vibrate when playing the trumpet. I don't know if this thing is really playing this, but if it could blow air out I believe it could work.

  • Research before you post. The lip vibrations are what cause the sound. I would know, I play. It has to have some sort of artificial lips.

  • well, there could be a lip-like thing in the trumpet so when air goes thro it it vibrates

  • Wrong, because the lips have to tighten and release, depending on the tone you are playing. A higher note means tighter lips and a faster vibration.

  • true

  • Its easy, the sound of the vibration of the lips before its altered by the trumpet and the trumpet keys are recordable and replayable all they needed the robot to do is pres the keys and replay the sounds in the right order.

  • Except for the fact that each fingering on a trumpet can produce (theoretically) dozens of tones. Most trumpet players can get 8 or 9 partials per fingering out of their trumpet.

  • nice midi :D

  • its really pressing the key...

  • fake? ! ? ! ?

  • seriously how is that hting buzzing? good question

  • how is the robot buzzing?

  • all you people know it is just playing a recording of a real trumpet in its mouth and the trumpet acts as an amplifier

  • Actually toyota developed a lung system in the robot, it actually is playing with air. I have seen this robot for myself and have a video on my profile.

This idea of a machine playing a wind instrument isn't a modern idea as there are machines over 150 years old that are driven by bellows, I have a friend who owns some of these machines.

  • ok good point but u are probably right but they need to buzz and in order for that they need wet and flexible lips. I'm not quite sure about this robot. I play the trumpet and Tuba

  • I can understand your point too, I looked at the robot before it started playing, it only had a small hole for a mouth, maybe they added a device inside the trumpet to make it buzz. I'm sure Toyota would be exposed if they were to fake it.

  • yes probably.

  • I'm sure equipping the robot with rubber lips that buzz with outgoing air is the least of the technical hurdles the engineers would encounter in building this thing.

  • probably

  • i love the sweeping arm motions. so forced.

  • We've got a great show for you tonight folks.. My guest tonight will be the leader of the first all android band to place number one on the billboard charts!

  • god i swear soon robots are gonna be like halo in war....

  • Playing the trumpet now next week he will be a leader of a robot army...

  • @Jpurser1 This song will be the song of his people. Once humans are taken over and enslaved. The robots will get together and play this song.

  • Other than playing with emotions, that robot can probably play way better than people (of course to get to that, the programming it needs must be hell).

  • Were all gonna die

  • And the robot will play taps at the funeral.

  • asimo all day!!!!!!!!!! HONDA > TOYOTA

  • MOrtal, not having a soul is not unusual. Just look around and you can see lots of people who don't appear to have souls. At least this robot makes music not war

  • FRACKING CYLON!!!

  • omg that is amazing..

  • it sounds very electronic

  • we should be building robots instead of fight a useless war with iraq.

  • I agree.

  • well said we can boost our economy by making these things

  • @94katy What you, and every country that's fucking up the planet with polution, should do is go green and diminish at maximum possible the polution and destruction of nature. In its simpler meaning war is stupidity, greed and waste of lifes and resources. For example if it is Muammar al-Gaddafi and all the shit around him that are fucking up Lybia and exploiting the Lybian people, then just kill him and the shit that is with and problem solved = hundreds of lifes spared. Easy, isnt it?

  • @94katy i think they should use paintballs instead of bullets. then no one dies and its a good game

  • Wow a Stormtrooper playing a trumpet or was it really playing an mp3 and just "air-guitaring" with a trumpet...air trumpeting; you know what I mean.

  • I feel so bad for this robot for some reason

  • it is awesome but its weird i mean there is No soul on this body This is Odd

  • robots playing trumpet? wow.. He's got nice tone, lolz

  • yea ohw does it tougue its notes and how does he make his lips into the right position

  • That's what Toyota's accomplished.

  • oh wow that is awsome

  • DESTROY IT! NOW!!

  • that robot scares me o.O

  • dang! thats amazing!

  • he plays better than me. the major idea here is that, toyota has developed a breathing system in a robot.

  • more like blowing

  • it is real, I watched a group of these robots perform at the AICHII expo in Japan in 2005. The robots actually have "lips" that they use to play.

  • I don't think it's actually playing. My friend plays trumpet and you have to purse your lips a certain way to get certain notes. Your lips is what makes the noise with a trumpet.

  • A robot could never get a sound like that, I think the sound is artificial and its either cheating and just doing random fingering, or it generates the tone based on what the robot is doing with the vavles....

  • I saw this robot in Japan and there was sound definately coming from the trumpet, it must have rubber lips, hey the japanese are very clever they would have it all worked out.

  • how is it doing that?

  • WoW!!

  • amazing!
