The great thing about this movie was it's authenticity: it actually used real Metal bands, had a real soundtrack, and a sympathetic, convincing central character. Finally, after so many lousy caracatures, a Metal movie from the Metalhead's point of view!

i can relate to ragman alot in this movie i alot of ways. i was in the heavy metal crowd in the 80's and 90's and the jocks got special treatment from school staff i got suspended from school alot because i did not care what happened to me i was'nt letting them push me around but the bad part was they would start it and i would be the one in trouble when the jock got what they deserved great movie go ragman.

Movie is just awesome along with one of the best soundtracks ever. Fastway's best work for sure. However I don't think it received the recognition it deserved because they didn't do a retake or take out the scene where the boom mic comes down from the top of the screen muha! I bought the DVD, have it on my table. Long ago I rented it, it took about two years since it was in theaters on Halloween before it came to home video, I am pretty sure. I was aware of it and waiting to see it. Still the DVD is a no-name release with no special care given to it, no supplements. A commentary and behind the scenes would have been something!

On a serious note, I love how this movie was a slap in the face to Tipper Gore and the "God, Gays, and Family Values" politicians who tried to blame all of society's problems on Heavy Metal music and rebellious teens.

On a lighter note, Ozzy playing a preacher proclaiming the "evils of rock pornography" is just hilarious :)

Good man. I'm a child of the 80s myself, and I'll repeat what Mickey Rourke said in his recent film, "the 90s sucked," at least compared to magic back then. I don't think it's a matter of being older, either---it's really not the same. I admire the younger crowd (I'm in my 30s) that enjoy this stuff, it's inspiring to know they keep it alive.

Have you ever heard of a english band from the 1980s called "bad news" there on youtube you might like them. They were sort of a joke band like spinal tap and they had members of the british t.v. show "the young ones" in the band.

I don't agree at all. Back then a band could be thrash, heavy metal, hard rock, or what have you, and still have their own sound without betraying their roots. For the past several years it's been hip to be emo or metalcore and such, and they have no real spirit or passion at all. Everything has been neutered and dumbed down for mass consumption and no one sticks to their guns anymore, except maybe underground and foreign metal.
