  • @40momba

    I can understand that!

  • Love the ornaments and also the sound the electric train makes.

  • just loving the memories. Parent used to have one, there is a picture of me as a toddler standing by it

  • Festivus for the Rest of Us!

  • Thanks Bigcarguy I'm glad you like it!! My husband is an oldcarguy and we were kids in the late 60's into the 70's as well. Did a train layout for the kids in the basement a few years back. I need to put that up on youtube one of these days.

  • I love seeing this. This is what Christmas should be. I miss the christmas's of the past so much. Thanks for up loading it. My grandma had one like this - the train in the 70's. I loved it.

  • What a wonderful tree, thank you for sharing, I in the 60's grew up with a Silver tree in Brixton London where I was born and I thought it was the best tree on the whole estate where I lived, Thanks

  • @chataboutcakes I grew up in the sixties also I am 49 years old. My ancestor sailed from Kent in 1630 to America but those roots must run deep because we always prefer tea in my family and I love love love to bake scones. Your chocolate biscuits look lovely I will have to use your recipe. I do love putting up my tree each year and hate to take it down but my husband convinces me to. I love the old Christmas songs also I play them while my sons and I decorate our gingerbread houses. Thanks,Diane

  • Another year has passed and here I am again on the 4th of July 2011 and feeling nostalgic for Christmas. Do you put this tree up every year or do you leave it up all year? When I finally get this building project over I will have a tree up all year - at least a small one - love it. Many people now leave them up all year - and why not? They're beautiful! A woman down the street from me has a tree in each window - at least 4, and leaves them all up 'til Easter. I'll be back soon.

  • @CD122344 I have to take it down as it kind blocks my front door since that is where it fits. Looking forward to another Christmas coming up soon. I want to see your tree this year so you better post it!!! It's almost November already time is flying.

  • A great trip in time ! Thanks for the post :0)

  • Dear Tired, Old, Man,

Thanks for posting, all those years ago, I hope you are quite recovered from all that was involved in presenting this vt.

    .

This beautiful tree with its beautiful decorations reminds me, too, of the recent-olden days.

    .

The posh 'Church' where I went with my Mother and siblings, "The Salvation Army" ,had some nearly-as-nice tree, which absolutely astounded me when I first saw it at age 8; on display in the front of that citadel every year.

    Cheers.

  • @FriendLondonFriend . Thanks for the comment. The tired old man is my husband but this is my family tree. My son George and I filmed this and I am so glad we did. The tree itself is so old the branches are scrunched and thin looking so I layer the ornaments from the inside to the edges to fill in the gaps, requires many hours to take them down but PBS usually puts on something Jane Austen around then so I watch TV and slowly wrap my ornaments up. Glad you enjoyed watching. Regards, Diane

  • @40momba Dear momba., Hey thanks for your response. It will soon be time to put the tree up again! . I hope you don't get tired of doing it or, do find someone nimble-enough to do it for you. . Once one doesn't bother to do it, a habit may develop. By doing it every year, something is kept alive, which would otherwise become a memory. Sorry, I am not telling you what to do, just thinking out loud; I only have happy memories, now-a-days. . Thanks for posting. . Cheers. from, del-boy
  • @FriendLondonFriend You are so correct about that London friend and my Sons help me decorate it every year. My childhood wasn't actually full of good memories so it's very important that I am filling up their lives (and mine) with great ones now. The tree is just so heartwarming to me and it is part of our traditions we are creating . That's what is great about Christmas and family is you can create your own traditions and enjoy them together. Making our messy gingerbread houses is also fun !

  • @40momba

Thanks very much for you response.

    .

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 2012.

    .

    Cheers.

  • Thank you I was hoping it would make others happy and put them in the spirit of Christmas. It makes me feel very wonderful to decorate it with my sons.

  • That's great! I'm cleaning out my mom's garage this week and found our silver tree from the 60's. It's in mint condition with the original box. We're going to put it up next christmas.

  • Beautiful presentation!

  • My grandparents had one of these with a color wheel that shined on the tree and made it diff colors ...I always said it smelled like candy when it got warm ...Thanks for the video it brings back many good memories

  • absolutely lovely... so nice to think about in mid summer! Thank you so much for posting!!

  • Really, really nice!

  • We have ornaments from when my sister and myself were only 9 and 12, I was 12, she was 9 It was 1975, There was a wooden schoolhouse, two mice, we added some ceramic bell ones a few years later, plus we still have all the home made ones the nephews and niece made in school we put up every year. My parents say we will never put up a tree again They always try to screw up the holidays, especially my mother, she starts a pity party on Thanksgiving Day and won't shut it up until Jan 1st.

  • Very cool!! And you've got some fabulous ornaments!

  • Here I am again on the 4th of July 2010 wishing it were October with Halloween approaching - then a short hop to Thanksgiving and then Christmas - very hot today, possibly 98 tomorrow and 100 on Tue- hate it! Did not finish my renovation project - complications. Again enjoyed the "train and trolly ride" and the tree and the gorgeous ornaments. By the way, I turned 13 in 1957! Will check in again at Christmas or sooner. Hopefully I'll post pictures of my small 1940s decorated tree. Thanks again.

  • wow so pretty i just brought one on ebay a silver aluminun pom pom tree orginal 1954 the are so pretty. I bet on it for 120 dollars and won...i was so happy...now the trees on ebay buy now for 300 and up....i was thinking of putting it back on ebay to invest but i think i will wait a few more years. these trees lasted till the early 70's and they discontinue them because ppl was putting light directly on the tree and thats a no no to many fires....i need to get the color wheel and turner..

  • ohg! my one gramma had glass ornaments like the ones towards the top of the tree!!!!!!!!!

  • Me again! Looked at your beautiful vintage tree, tonight, Christmas night and enjoyed it. Picked up an aluminum tree at a garage sale for 15 bucks two blocks down the street in its original box. Box is in fair condition. Hopefully I'll assemble it for next year. Going to do a very small cotton wrapped one soon. My late aunt and her 2 daughters used to start on one in October! It was spectacular. Anyway, thanks for the wonderful post. Merry Christmas and I'll be back!

  • Thanks for stopping back by. We put a new train around the tree this year my husband got a beautiful set at a garage sale down the street for a buck!! Gotta love a super duper garage sale deal. A very Merry Christmas to you.

  • I'm a boomer, too (age 54), from a big family. I was born in Evanston, IL! but ended up in central PA. My late mother passed in 2005, but my dad will be 82 on Jan. 1. Hands down, you have the most beautiful Christmas ornaments I have ever seen. Mine are a hodge-podge on a sadly fake green tree, but I DO have a cool retro aluminum upstairs in DD's room (she's 14; I had her at 40). Merry Christmas!

  • beautiful tree and i love that song my grandpa sang it to my mother when she was a baby.

  • Your tree looks beautiful :) Love the train too. I can't wait to find an aluminum tree (or stainless steel?) to buy like I had as a kid. They need to manufacture these large ones again with the color wheel ! I can't get over how this tree makes the ornaments look way more stunning than on a green tree.

  • Very lovely video!

    Excellent!!

    Hugs.

    Any

  • This is lovely and the ornaments are great. We also had the bird ornament with the feather, it clips on the tree. Just great, thanks for sharing.

  • Beautiful ornaments!

  • WOW...this just melted my heart.....makes me all squishy and happy :) Thanks for posting this~~~Cheers!

  • Here it is July 3, 2009 and had a yearning for something Christmas. Again enjoyed seeing your exquisitely decorated tree with train and trolley below. As soon as I finish my renovation project, I intend to keep some kind of tree up all year. A friend of mine down the street has at least 4 trees and keeps them up til

Easter even if Easter falls on April 23. Also finishing a train room in the basement where I will have a permanent Christmas Tree even if it's a small one.

    Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the reply. Glad to hear that your Nativity is up all year. Would liked to have seen it as well. Thanks once again for displaying the silver tree. Yours is wonderfully decorated. My Aunt had one and we still have the color wheel. Hopefully we'll find the tree midst all the stuff in the garage. Merry Christmas!

  • Loved the tree, the wonderful ornaments, the train, trolley, etc.Brought back a lot of memories. Didn't see a Nativity set.Might have missed it. Ours was under the tree or prominently off to the side as it grew from year to year.

  • My Nativity is actually up all year on my bookshelf in the living room. It's from when I was a kid also.

  • Cool tree: )

  • Do i detect any homemade ornaments?

  • Yes, the cute little house ornaments were made by my sister in law.

  • Thanks for posting this. It's beautiful. :-D
