this song was song by laurie sargent in the movie but they put a different version on the soundtrack....the same with the song i can dream about u...in the movie it was sung by winston ford but a different version was on the album.....they never released the movie versions of either song which were the better versions .
I believe this is Laurie Sargent singing this version (she's credited in the closing credits). Marilyn Martin sings it on the soundtrack album for whatever reason.
I was a huge fan of this film when it orginally came out. Rumour has it that this version is actually Diane Lane singing. I'd love to see an anniversary version of this film with extras like the whole video of this. Stevie wrote it and was on Marilyn's version. Probably is on this one as well. I'd love to hear her do Nowhere fast.
I have find out this movie only now that I am 31 years old, it' s was an unforgivable mess because I am an 80's lover, but now I know. it's a very precious gift from Walter Hill
If only we could unearth this version as a download - this is quintessential late-night mix CD gold.
Saw it again recently for the first time in more than 20 years, and the art direction and look of this movie is phenomenal - so '80s and so '50s at the same time.
Stevie Nicks wrote this in the early '70s. She recorded it with Lindsey Buckingham and there are live versions and demos from that era as well. I think the reason the soundtrack doesn't feature the Fire, Inc. version is because Jimmy Iovine - who produced Stevie's first 3 solo albums - produced 5 songs on the soundtrack and he was helping launch Marilyn Martin's solo career. Stevie's bkgnd vocals on Martin's version saves the song. Stevie recorded it for her 2001 CD Trouble in Shangri-la.
@rickdunn101 Stevie's backing vocals save the song? I mean yes, it certainly adds that something special to it but I think most fans agree that this version of "Sorcerer" is the best. And despite the fact that the 2001 version is closer to the original demo, it just doesn't have that magic about it that the Marilyn Martin version does.
I think there's no way to obtain this song version anywhere. The Sountrack CD includes the Marilyn Martin version, and this Youtube video is the only place on the net I've found the movie version.
I was only 11 when this movie came out. Loved Diane Lane as a rock goddes and the all cast. Streets of fire is sooo cheesy like most 80's movies but at the same time u can stop watching it. I wish they woulk make movies like that more often. it still gives me goosebumps, what more to say ;} simply awesome !!
This movie was the longest music video ever. It's too bad they spent 90% of their effort trying to make everything look so 80s stylish and only about 10% of their time on the story.
can someone please tell me who is singing this ? Marilyn whomever who really does this song, is NOT the voice I want. dont like her version..even if she did sing it. too fast, not as sultry. havent heard the Stevie nicks version even tho it's hers. Is it Diane lane singing? it sounds so much better in the movie than anything I've heard online. Thanks
Laurie Sargent sings this version of the song, but on the soundtrack you can only find the version that is sung by Marilny Martin. This version is only in the movie.
@DigitalCobraEater I've never understood the idea of putting a total different version on the soundtrack. And way too often the soundtrack version is much worse than the movie version. Just like this one. Or that's at least what I think...
Tankgangsta... you are out of your mind. I really enjoy stevie Nicks music but this version is much better then hers. The clarity and the balance and the crispness of the singers voice sounds much better. I love Stevie but her version sounds so raspy and plegm ridden as if se were smoking Newports and drinking all night.
Yeah, for once a Stevie Nicks song sounds better sung by someone else. I think the sense of drama of the chorus always got undercut by Stevie's normally appealing "bleating" vocals. A clear tone is needed for this track, and both movie versions are great.
I can`t find this version of Sorcerer. How can be possible that this song, which sings Laurie Sargent, can`t be found nowhere? Even in soundtrack they put Marylin`s version
Now why can't they make great songs this anymore. I love the whole sound track to Streets of Fire and the movie. Thanks for putting this out on YT. labelashavoc (:~>?=
Sorry, you all wrong, Just watched the movie and the credits list Laurie Sargent as doing the vocals for "Sorcerer" with the band Fire, Inc. Marilyn Martin recorded the song on the Movie Soundtrack album. Holly Sherwood sung one of the other songs in the movie. Marilyn Martin does a great job, but Laurie Sargent did the original vocals on the movie with the band Fire, Inc.

I love this song. I wish I had one of those machine to record my records to cd, I have the soundtrack on record. Do you have the one from the sound track? you sound post that one too.
Holly Sherwood sang the 'two famous' songs from the movie sound track, "Nowhere Fast" and "Tonight is what it means to be young", under the fake band "Fire Inc." This song, however, is not being sung by Holly Sherwood. It was written by Stevie Nicks and is performed by Marilyn Martin, not Fire Inc. as the title suggests.
ACTUALLY, this song is sung by LAURIE SARGENT in this clip, who, along with Holly Sherwood, was part of Fire, Inc. - it was not sung by Marilyn Martin in the movie, but re-recorded by MM for the soundtrack only
I believe the credits in the movie say Sorcerer was sung by Laurie Sargent but the cd soundtrack is sung by Marilyn Martin. I like the movie version better.
