  • thats was awesome!

  • Excellent video!

  • Looks like you where somewhere in the Mohave ! you belong to a Club ? whens next up and coming launch Dates ? I have Friends in Kingman and i'ld like to stop by check you all out .

  • @Tay58382 That is in Southern California "ROC" I no longer live their but they fly out of Lucerene (sp?) the second weekend of every month. the club is huge so it would be a great place to start!

  • Great rocket and great vid. Congrats!

  • Did you make the fuel yourself? Or could you buy pre-maid motors that big?

  • EPIC WIN!

  • the actual redstone didnt have that kind of acceleration, but it is still the coolest model ive seen

  • Dude that was killer and you built yourself I liked everything I saw

  • How high do you think it went?

  • @donperry1 It went right about 1 mile!

  • I'm proud to call myself a geek! Nice video!

  • how high?

  • lol at :46

  • @emb11103 I take it you like my SMURF impression..

  • @metalwizard23 ya lol

  • Really enjoyed the jeans pockets pulled inside out. That was great!

  • great job man! best regards!

  • Amazing. This is very cool. Thank you for sharing.

  • wow, that made me cry and i amnow going to follow your way

  • Wow, incredible, beautiful, and many other superlatives BUT I would much rather hear the sound of that Blue Thunder than Creed for the few seconds of power. Fine song, wonderful video, outstandingly georgeous Redstone, yet I was hoping for a pause in the song at launch. Nothing like the roar!

  • @jesusisbetter Sorry i had the right sound but someone complained that I used their song in the background.. You want the full video with the correct sound. I can send it to you.. by the way the song was "you can still rock in america" by night ranger. so if you since they wont let me post it here. I'll help screw them some more. if ANYOne WANTS A COPY OF THAT SONG I'll BE HAPPY TO SEND IT TO YOU FOR FREE.

that or any other Night ranger song... See what being a pain does...

  • Sweet job! We built some rockets for a movie a while back and had a heck of time sanding and sealing, sanding and sealing, to get the spiral seams out of our Sonotube bodies. It looks like you just fiberglassed it, but did that take care of the problem? Any hints for next time?

  • @carmium

Yep amazing what a layer or two of glass will do for spirals. not to mention strength

  • @metalwizard23 I'll keep that in mind if if the need comes up again. I wonder what happened to our full-scale Skylark (I think it was; British research rocket) anyway? Maybe with a big motor it could have gone on to great things...

  • @carmium if you ever need decals. Check out my website. I actually do work for an FX company... so if you need art work for the movies I can do that too

    stickershock23 com

  • CREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • dude youre my hero

  • i am making high powered rockets with ammonium perchlorate fuel that flame looks just like a ammonium perchlorate fuel based propellant. is that what You used?

  • nice job

  • Nice. Hey, what altitude can i reach? Does the motor use solid or liquid propellant? BTW, I'm planning to make some rockets in future (like in few yers maybe but I will! :P)

  • @AdamCz1993 Just shy of a mile high Have fun building your rocket. its addicting.

  • @AdamCz1993 Oh solid propellant. check out PRO38 dot com..

  • You know, I'm a geek ,nerd, space-nut... whatever you want to call it and enjoy what you're doing here.... but Creed!?

  • @jtruns It was NOT creed until someone said I was using their copyrightsd music. and out of all the free stuff youtube had to offer Creed fit the best (TIME WISE) if I had a choice it would be something different.

  • That's a great video you have there - the whole start to - well not "Finish" per se but you get the drift.

I have an old 1970's vintage Mercury Redstone Estes or alpha Centaury rocket upstaris in my attic - it's minus the nose cone but if you want it let me know, cover shipping and it's yours. Think it's about 20" long or so..

What certifications do you have ot have to do the high power rocketry?

    Thanks,

    Scott

  • this is the geekiest shit I've ever seen.... and I'm totally addicted to it! haha model rockets fucking rock.

  • Excellent Job !!! Looked really good !!!

  • @jamesandrew2000 HAHAHAHA

  • Awesome!

  • good job on it it looks great and works great job mark

  • Anyone reading this involved in high-powered rocketry. I am searching for any photos or video of a high-powered copy of the Centuri "Point" which was Centuri's, and the world's, first commercial model rocket. Seems I saw a picture years ago in a high-powered rocketry magazine. Any help "pointing" me to photos or video would be much appreciated, am interested in this as a high-powered project.

  • @jamesandrew2000 That's my pregnant wife.. LOL

  • I'm not sure how I missed this video. This is an amazing build! I wish I could make my stuff look this pretty. Fantastic flight too! A late congrats on the level 3. Is that out at black rock?

    P.S. Great song choice!

  • @TIRrocketry Thanks, That flight was at Lucrene California. Keep watching. I will be usingthe same capsule and fling it as a little joe on 4 54mm CTI classics in june!

  • @metalwizard23 Sounds sweet! Is it going to fly at LDRS?

  • @metalwizard23

     Yeppers..

  • I was curious as to what kind of propellant you used for this and how much?

  • @Sreewtyui It was a commercially made motor, and they are about $500.00 pro38 d@t com

  • awesome display of dedication! Thank you Mark Hayes for inspiring me to keep going with my rocketry...

  • wat did you use for the fins? and for the body circle things wat are those mad eof?

  • @MrRcpaintballer10 It's all made of Plywood (baltic Birch) with layers of fiberglass over them.

  • Mr. Hayes, I work on Redstone Arsenal & drive by an old merc redstone rocket on display within the Marshal space flight campus every day on my way to work. It was really neat to see your fantastic project fly! Thanks for sharing your amazing work and hobby with the you tube commnity! - Rob

  • @user196489

Thanks Rod, It is a BEAUTIFUL rocket, I just had to do it.. By the way I am working on a MERCURY LITTLE JOE to use the same capsule. and fly at LDRS29... keep watching!

  • Mr. Hayes, I work on Redstone Arsenal & drive by an old merc redstone rocket on display within the Marshal space flight campus every day on my way to work. It was really neat to see your fantastic project fly! Thanks for sharing your amazing work and hobby with the you tube commnity! - Rob

  • That is the most beautiful model rocket I have seen on YouTube.

  • I'm wondering who drew the short straw to go get the sumbitch.. awesome project.

  • Nicely done! I just love seeing someone take on a project like this all the way to completion. Lots of people talk it up but you actually did it. Good job. I would hire you just on that. :-)

  • @themainproblem

Thanks. It was a great fun and Challenging project!

Were do you work? I could use a change LOL

  • Awesome Job next time put a cam on board.

  • Go Alan Shepard, go!!

  • Hi

You can help me make a rocket?or give me a web steering to help me? Because an experiment in order to pass college physics class.

Also I am trying to make a rocket with Potassium nitrate and sugar, but I do not know if it's with PVC cylinders.

And pardon if I write bad, because I do not speak English, I only translate into google.

    Thank you very much.

  • Personally, using potassium nitrate, I would not recommend using PVC. PVC is subject to fragmentation at the kind of pressures a potassium nitrate might create as a propellent. I would use something metal.

  • thanks

  • The Rocketry Forum

  • awsome job and awsome video work, what fuel did you use?

  • what a beautiful model, what powerplants???

  • What kind of electric control were you using there?

    That's brilliant!

  • Good job! That was awesome

  • Wow, that was really cool. Lots of hard work for just a few seconds of fun, but that must've felt great watching it go up like that. Any idea how high it went?

  • about 1 mile... thanks

  • if my life gets any crappier, i am gonna launch myself into space and never come back. i would like to see the look on my wife's face when she realizes that i am orbiting the earth for the rest of my life, and they'll be no more money for her booze and her smokes. she's a bitch

  • Yeah I have an ex wife like that... she Cant Understand Normal Thinking.

fortunately for me I kicked her stupid ass to the curb. best thing I ever did in my life! Then I found a woman that loves me for who I really am and actually cares about me. we got married at the same place this launch takes place! greatest thing that ever happened to me.

  • Sometimes you have to do what is good for you (and your kids if you have any) I hope things get better for you, and if not come to a launch, it has been know th relieve all sorts of stress !

  • Good job. Very impressive

  • Non je rigole. Se serai bien quelle vole cette fusée.

  • geek ^^

  • Yeah maybe... so what. I am licensed to play with explosives... so it's kind of fun.. Happy new year

  • Geek, dork, nerd.... these things stopped being insults a while back, and have become terms of endearments and have been accepted as a type of cool.

Between Microsoft, NCIS, and mythbusters, geeks, nerds, and dorks are the cool, smart ones nowadays.

  • @melancholyid tell that to the ones that believe earth is flat

  • @porkyminch01 But who really cares what they think? It isn't like they are going to be relevant anyway.

  • @melancholyid They took my FACE!

  • That's it? If i had the machinery you had, i'd be to the moon already. I got black sky and curvature of earth shots with mine and it was all hand made.

  • That was only a single stage rocket? I could have sworn I saw a second ignition during the flight.

  • Hello metalwizard23, I was thinking about build a pulse jet powered rocket, propane fueled. Any ideas?

  • I have tinkered around with one of those at one point, but never really got very far.

When I was looking into it I found TONS of info just doing a google search I wish I could tell you more. sounds cool thoug. keep us informed if you get anywhere!

  • WUOU!! :O

  • 20 outa 10

  • perfect !!

  • Anyone who knows about model rockets, in theory would it be possible to build a kno3/ sugar propelled rocket that would burn long enough and give it enough thrust to reach the thermosphere? i guess thats optimistic but what height do you think it could actually reach?

  • I'm not the person to ask. But I know there is a forum on sugar rockets somewhere. it very well might be being discussed already! Go to tripoli las vegas's website, the guys there do alot of sugar motors. there may be somethere to lead you the right direction

  • it has been awhile since i have visited high power rocketry, what was your fuel.

  • realy realy nice (mooiboy)

  • Lol at 00:45 ...Gotta love working with styrofoam. Amazing craftsmanship. Great music and video! best part is the safe return home! Was that 2 stage or tracing smoke? Looks like fun! Keep it up!

  • Single stage. tracking smoke.

It was MY Level 3 cert flight. keep it simple!

thanx to everyone for the great replies.

  • Woow the best rocket

  • Man that was sweet.....nicely done

  • Wow, how long did that take to build, so

painstakingly like that. Nice job man.

  • It would have been something else if you rigged rockets inside of the tower, rigged the upper nose section to come off (And deploy shoots) and had a mini retro package that fired as well. While it would have added extra weight, and would have been heck trying to get things to sync properly, the final result would have been a VERY awesome show (Not that this wasn't mind you. Very great ob actually in craftsmanship)

  • Just under a mile...wow.

  • Sorry to hear the Creed song, but hell of a rocket. Steve Eve did the Apollo Saturn V... now someone just needs to do the Gemini Titan.

  • Great job

  • Awesome!!!

  • How many pounds thrust was the engine used? and how far away from lift off did the parachute float it too?thank you and a great flight!!!:):)

  • Thats a lot of explosive fuel to have sitting under your house.

  • Sweet flight...congrats!

I have a few flights with onboard video...'jetmanflyhigh' on you tube.

  • what was the altitude?

  • Just under 1 mile.

  • i take it you built your own engine?

  • at 4:20 was it still trying to go even with the chutes open? lol

  • No, that was tracking smoke.

the motor burned in under 3 seconds

  • brovo!

  • that was beautiful

  • Beautiful!!!

  • THIS IS AWENSONE !!!!!!!! I like your rocket ! Its ... Its EXELENT !!!! 5 stars

  • put a remote detonated bomb

  • what are you? stupid? People like you are good reason to promote birth control. This hobby does not need idiots like you in it. We build model rockets. not missiles.

  • your no fun

at least make it look like a nuke

  • that was awesome!!! perfectly designed and it went really high

  • Wow gorgeous rocket. You've got some fabrication skills! What motor/propellant did you use?

  • Thank you. It was an Aerotech M2400 Blue thundar

  • not very high at all...lame

  • I never said i was going for altitude. Low and slow... ok at least low. I like to watch the entire flight. If you want to go for altitude. check out my nike smoke video Well over the speed of sound and 12000 ft agl. thats almost 3 miles. and I can go bigger if I want to, not that I would for an Idiot like you. so PISS OFF!

If you can't say something nice. GO SCREW YOURSELF.

  • I agree with what you say about the as**le KOBER77 un warranted comment. Keep up the great work. I used to do rockets myself and the old lady made me stop; now I do cars heheh... Point is you took something from nothing and made it with your own hands; most people today are xbox freaks who can't even plan, draw, manufacture parts and assemble something. Hey Kober777 why don't you take that pin head you call a head and stick it up a warm and dark place..

  • Thank you! comment well taken!

By the way, I love cars too!

  • Awesome!!!! I am getting into model rocketry myself, and it is one of the best things that I have spent my time on. Do you know where I can buy some nice rocket kits that aren't too expensive?

  • Go to "the rocketry forum" or "rocketry planet"

Both forums have tons of information on that kind of thing and great guys to give you their opnion. there is just to many to list. my personal favorite is "whats up hobbies"

  • very well said

    very nice video as well

i think it went very high

if you can't jump that high or get that high on any ladder it's very high lol

  • who said he was going for an altitude record? prick jackass...

  • Well stated!

    Thanks again

  • how high did it?

    can stand that song..lol

  • Just under 1 mile. The music is ok, It was better but youtube made me change it.. oh well.

  • awesome, it was a cool looking rocket.

    good job!

  • i think the music goes well with this video and creed is a good band

  • That is awesome! I flew a couple rockets at the lake bed a few years ago.. It's the funnest thing i've probably ever done.. I flew the v2 and the gemini. My next one is the apollo and it is 99% finished.

  • sweet.....!!!!

  • Kickass rocket!! Fucking dreadful music!!

  • cool

  • that sir,

    was amazing

  • hey the joy is building the damn thing, looked like a good launch well done

  • woooooooooooooooow song is baffalo springfield

  • very awesome good job man and good song made me feel sad watching all that hard work blast off hahahah good work

  • anyone who understands rocket science cant be stupid. and you sir are no idiot, dont let anyone tell you otherwise. great work

  • Good work there! Lots of family fun.

  • GREAT ROCKET!

  • wow. amazingly crafted rocket, i have plans for a Delta rocket in the future, im sure i'll be like the guy in this one towards the end with the empty pockets for the design i have in mind!

    take care and great launch

    *Oki

  • Flippin AWESOME! The Mercury guys would have been proud! Nice nod to pad 39a lol. And as the previous user questioned, was there a provision to jettison the escape tower? Well done!!

  • Wonder if the escape tower was launchable ?

Cool vid though should have called yourself rocketman.

  • what fuel did yu used

  • Mark;Thank you for sharing that with us.Did you mention altitude ?

  • No problem thanks for watching it. On that flight, It went just shy of one mile.

  • Very nice, i Couldnt believe it took off like that, it would have emptyed your pockets, this vid is going in my favorites

  • wow good verry good

  • This is the kind of thing that will lead to amateur aerospace engineering as a hobby and may some day give any man, willing to put in the effort, a chance to get into space.

Could it be long till we see car companies following suit and creating the ideal personal space vehicle for soccer moms to take their kids to play sports on the moon or visit their grandparents on Mars?

With this it's more than a dream. It's like an apple on a tree hanging just out of the child's grasp.

    Reach for it!

  • AWSOME!!!

I'm glad to see the hard work and dedication you put into that paid off. You should be rightfully proud of what you achieved because it's not something everyone could do.

Well done and I hope all your future endeavors are as successful and bring you much satisfaction.

  • que bien se ve eso, deve ser una divercion cara, saludos desde monterrey mexico amigos bye.

  • Muchas gracias Mi Amigos!!!!

  • oh and beautiful launch

  • my dad works at JSC and at the front they have the accual redstone. that looks great.

  • Excellent !!!!

  • I enjoyed building the rocket with you because you made it that real. Seeing your wife and daughter next to your miniaturizeed apollo mission was cool and it made me think about puttin down some roots myself. Cool vid and perfect song.

  • Awesome job. Buggest one I've seen.

Should put an onboard cam on for the next flight..Wonder how high it got.

  • muy bueno amigo :)

  • Wow, it's re-usable! I didn't expect that, keep up the good work!

  • Damn good job sir, now put your hands behind your back....your coming with us......

  • Very good job mate. Yeah I laughed at all the polystyrene all over the belly etc. Only recommendation I could make would be a tripod for the camera filming the launch.

  • i agree

  • music suites mood, dont like it? dont watch it

  • haha, to get that worked up about a song on a video is pretty pathetic, not to mention childish. I'm willing to bet you're the 'clown' here, sir.

  • heheh I lol'd when i saw all those blue shavings on his chest

  • Very nice video.....i see...in the end u had empty pockets...lol.

  • I am glad that it went well. You really put a lot of effort into that rocket. Nice job.

  • Job Well Done Mr Wizard ! Hope there is more to come on your 3D chalk board..Its a keeper..

  • You made a very impressive replica of the Mercury Redstone rocket Mr. Haye's. You should be proud of your work!

    Sincerely, Howard

  • nice vid, nice rocket but youz need to diet

  • Pretty people dont make pretty rockets like this.

    Awesome rocket dudes!!

  • very good 7/5

  • nice video and a great rocket

  • Great! love it!
