I thought Organic standards require removal of plastic every year. On another note, I put in plastic in rye like that in the fall. First, the green mulch let in too much light and the rye germinated under the plastic and lifted it up until it was stretched tight like a bubble. Then the deer came and made holes with their feet as they ate the rye around the plastic and completely ruined the plastic. Just watch those deer!
These people cant just use a knife to cut holes in the plastic? they have to burn them...
A fall sown, winter killed cover crop could achieve the same effect, without using any plastic.
