its more in how you handle the strings with you chording hand(assuming left). keep a steady rythmic strum, but ''mash down''(for lack of better wording) with your left hand on the string to let them sound out, and just pick scrape the rythim into the progression.

Takes a lot of work to get the percussive string sound. It's muting the strings by NOT mashing down as hard on the strings with your left hand. Some players do most of the muting with the right hand. Jack does a little of both.

How does he play that song on guitar?? I tried learning by hear and seeing what he's playing; I see his chords starting on the 6th fret, then 2nd, then 5th, then 3rd?? They don't sound good when I've tried various ways to make it sound good but it doesn't... and how is he strumming like that? I can't even mimic it eve nthough I know many raggae strumming patterns! It's like some Bob Marley raggae strum...
