Asians and Africans have elephants in their lands for the longest time, but they fall decades behind Europeans in animal husbandry: Asians & Africans (particularly Asians) don't use systematic animal training methods, so chaining them & beating the crap out of them, until they submit, are the preferred methods: see Burma, Sri Lanka, India, Laos, Thailand, & Cambodia where there are still elephants.
