Never liked DC. There's nothing special to her voice, it doesn't really stand out. It's better suited to choral work, not dueting or soloing. Altho I guess shacking up with Weller helped a bit.
I strongly disagree this comment. I was very involved in the musical trends in the 80s in Madrid and London, Certanly, DC was one of the best choralists in early 80s (remember she did her first great job with Wham!, no discussion about the high standars or Mr. Michael). In my opinion, Weller was wery intelligent with the addition of DC to TSC. However her solo carrier was truncated when she married to him and had two children, taking care of them almost alone. ¿Who help who: Weller to DC or...?
I loved this song from the first, her vocals w/Style Council too, however,I saw her at Jazz Cafe in '96 & it really exposed how thin, weak and untrained her voice is;no breath control either. She cracked at one point on a very simple note.I was very disappointed. The songs are great but she's boring as a performer.
@juniedai Ha, ha!! Touche! Listen, don't get me wrong. I love her songs, she's quite a good songwriter and I've loaded my fave tracks from the 1st album onto my iPod. She just has a weakness in other areas as an artist.
@gerodh Her first album and worst album was "Shrine". The only good track off that album was "See The Day". Moving on... "Things Will Be Sweeter" and "Smiles" albums were incredible.. plus not to mention her "Slam Slam" cd. Being you've seen her live and she was not all that at the time does not make her a weak artist. Look at Amy Winehouse (my fav) for instance.. she sounds great live for the most part... but then again... I've seen some of her live performances where she sounded awful.
I guess we all have our own tastes - "Hey, What'd Say", "Something Special Starts", and "Still The Children Cry" are songs I like from the 1st album. I like "How Far" and "Things Will Be Sweeter" from the 2nd album. And absolutely loved all but the 2 slow tracks on the Slam/Slam album. I am a singer and she wasn't having an off day. She didn't support the notes with her diaphragm so there was no power or volume to her voice, her tuning was out and she didn't exude that "lead singer" aura.
@gerodh Now that I remember those songs off the 1st album were incredible. I do respect your opinion plus our musical taste are really not that different. Sing on!
@ladycplum nothing special! pease you would'nt know a good thin if it sat on your " ". Go ahead and play your Sheryl Crow, Taylor Swift or Beyonce CD.
@juniedai Thanks, if I want to hear a truly phenomenal voice, I'll listen to Kate Bush or Ofra Haza instead of the manufactured pop pablum you just regurgitated at me.
Where Dc Lee Today? I loved her, loved the song, did she even make an album? And actually, I think Nadine from GA has more talent in her little finger than the rest of Girls, We're all entitled to our opinions! is that ok with you Coastagirl23?
Paul Weller and Mick Talbot backing her up. Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! Even the poor audio quality can't diminish the sheer genius behind this song.
It reached no3 in the charts , but why let facts ruin a good yarn lol , She was really good tho , Mrs Paul Weller , ex backing singer for Wham aswell , but hey , you keep believin x
Was this recorded at Wembley Arena December 1985 in the middle of qa Style Council gig? I think I may have been their with some mates from Woking College....
to ladycplum sorry for being abrasive but I have already run up that hill and back

@ladycplum Kate Bush is my favorite non-soul singer! Ofra Haza's "Galbi" is one of my all time faves too.

@gerodh Ofra, another that died way too young. I will say one good thing about DC, Nat & Leah are both gorgeous, so she's got good genetics!

One of my favs for the 80's very hard to improve on this.

Much better than Girls aloud. Sung with real feeling instead of the Pop theme
Mind you Girls aloud are sexy.
But DClee sings this much better

Great song , from 1986 I think.Still have the album it
was from called 'Shrine' - on cassette tape of course !
The song before it on the album 'That's When Something
Special Starts' is a good song leading into it.
