thats a really nice set up, but white plastic is a big mistake. it reflects heat and rays so the sun can't heat the soil. bad bad for tomatoes & peppers and some other plants

Yes it was DE. It really has helped with the hornworms and catepillars. They are dead before they get to the box. I just have to reapply if there is a heavy rain.
The same here. If I plant herbs in there I think I will just have too many. They are really easy to grow and require lttle care, so I will continue to grow them in the regular pots.
Wow! That squash looks awesome. Have you ever tried doing herbs in an Earthbox? I'm scared to plant herbs in my SIPs because I don't think I need that many herbs. LOL!

Yes it is natural. It is called Diatomaceous Earth. Hope I spelled it right.
