"If my characters did exist, everything that follows is fairly plausible" im sorry, i mean it was a good movie, but it wasn't realistic in the slightest. I mean, it's like the Die Hard films, the odds of all of those events unfolding the way they do, with such amazing success is almost non-existant in terms of how they would've realistically unfolded.

@Transformers2themax How is that a fault in my logic? You just rambled on about how movies are unrealistic, when thats what i was pointing out what he said, which was "If my characters DID EXIST, everything that follows is fairly plausible".....
@bud389 I suppose, yes, it is a fault. I'm sorry if I insulted you in any way. I'm just pointing out facts. Had the characters in the film really existed, everything that follows IS fairly plausible. See, the main characters didn't exist. They belong to Tarantino and his imagination. And that's the magic of his films. They're not supposed to be realistic, but they're not supposed to be unrealistic either. They're like comic books. Would you debate whether a comic is realistic? No, of course not.
@Transformers2themax Imagination =/= real life counterpart. If it were in real life, they would've never been able to of broken into a nazi prison (to rescue stiglitz), Hitler and almost all the major accompanying officials killed in the movie would've been far too busy dealing with the war to of taken part in travelling down to the theater to watch a movie for "amusement," and if Hitler really WAS upset about the basterds in the movie, he would've sent the SS to hunt them down.
@bud389 You're probably right. But did you not read my last comment? It's not supposed to be realistic. It's like a comic book. They're unrealistic in a realistic way. We all know it didn't happen, and it very likely couldn't have happened. However, there's no point in pointing out the inaccuracies when it's not supposed to be accurate. It's not a reenactment. Saving Private Ryan, however, was made to be a reenactment and that's where the fact that SPR's inaccuracies actually mean something.
@bud389 You're probably right. But did you not read my last comment? It's not supposed to be realistic. It's like a comic book. They're unrealistic in a realistic way. @bud389 By the way, I am the nephew of a WWII German Wehrmacht Infantrymen reenactor whom has multiple degrees. I felt like the portrayal of the Germans was fairly realistic. They weren't all bald-headed, greasy, cowardly brutes like the Germans in SPR. A lot of them were actually brunette--not just blonde. I mean, they actually felt like real people. Not the kind of people WE are used to, but certainly not the uncivilized "Nazis" people are making them out to be.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of the darkness. For he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.
Gotta say, I hate when people boast and praise themselves. Except for Quentin. He has an air of a movie geek who still can't believe he gets to make every movie he wants, and who just loves his job so fucking much.
He really hit the nail on the hit when he was talking about using premade songs in films. I feel the same exact way, I wish more directors would do this as supposed to having every single bit of music composed for the film.
@oldfool666 Well I didn't know that when I commented, does not having such important knowledge really make me a twat? I'd say you calling me a twat for such a stupid thing makes you the twat.

Hell yeah. Tarantino re-writes history using film perfectly capturing the thoughts and feelings of popular culture today. That's why this film is amazing.
@ishotulol921 I completely agree with both Inglourious Basterds and District 9. District 9 finally broke the chain of tedious and boring alien movies and Inglourious Basterds was a great alternate reality filled with amazing dialog and fantastic shots.
Only Tarantino could change history and we all would love it!
Actually, in my mind, this is the way history happened. None of this Hitler committing suicide peacefully in a bunker, I would never give him such a quiet way out! So shot in the head 60 times in a theater it is! =D
@Paperbagman555 it won best screenplay, and that was its highpoint. It couldn't have won best pic, obviously. What I don't get is how this film didn't win anything (besides Best Supporting Actor)
@eckosama Why couldn't it have? Is it because it's not P.C and predictable? Pulp fiction was awesome, i mean come on what was better Shindler's list or Pulp fiction?
You guys DO realize this movie is a remake of a 1978 movie, right? So stop with the QT hate and realize he was remaking a classic with the same storyline. Fuck that director for coming up with the idea, not QT.
Also, absolutely love the way he thinks -obviously in general, and for example where where he talks about the choice of using already existing music, I can definitely feel and relate to that, and his view on the fantasy/realistic aspect of the story - that if his characters were 'real' historical figures then that's exactly how it all would've turned out! Haha, that's just how I choose to see it, as with most works of fiction/films, books, television etc.
He's so fucking amazing, my favourite film maker. I was truly blown away by Inglourious, I think it's absolutely genial, not that I expected anything less, hardly, from Tarantino. <3
right,he thinks the ww2 was about usa vs germany,80% of the german army was fighting against the russians and the panzer divisions in their best days were outnumered 1 tank with 10 rounds to 20well supplied russian tanks, only in the russian front 1944 sturmgeschuetz batallions destroyed 20 000 russian tanks, mostly t34s,and during all the war only 10 000 were built to all fronts, and about the tiger tank,it doesnt even need an introduction,we know how many allied tanks they destroyed
what i dont believe is if tarantino characters had existed would have changed the war role, like when hitler goes to a french small theater without even checking out what was going on inside,or what the theaters crew life passed by,also hitler didnt allow anyone to have weapons at 50m from him, also the theater scene looks a lot like a famous 2006 video game scene,Hitman blood and money, everyone says tarantino plays video games and watches tv all day like he did when he was a blockbuster janitor
Who gives a shit? that's not the fucking point, or his - his claim is practically that if the characters were to 'really' exist, in the universe that is the film - Inglourious Basterds' universe, then exactly how the story panned out in the film, would've happened for real haha.
There were groups like the OSS(precursor to special forces etc) who did go behind enemy lines to distrupt, blowup trainlines, gather intel etc, and should the need arise dispose of the opposition.

What r u talking about? Not all germans are nazis. And who the fuck r u to say anything about any american or german you aussie prick. You dont know shit, Bush was a horrible president, yes, but alot of people died on 9/11. Are we just gonna sit there and not do anything about it? HELL NO
I dont think you would have people like the basterds running around in war. Since thats the case - the whole thing "if they had existed, this is what could have happened"
Well I dont think theres any chance that a group like the basterds would exists so there goes that possibly
As long as you go into this movie, knowing that it's not based off history, and is an exaggerated, over the top fictional Hollywood movie (and Tarentino makes these well).. I don't see a problem. Obviously some people are stupid and won't know the difference between a Hollywood movie and a true story but you can't do much about those people anyway.
what a genius. fuck history, this is what everyone wanted to happen, this is a why of revenge for what those evil, evil men did. its perfection, is what that film is!
You cannot simply fuck history. He generalized all Germans as Nazis in this movie. Such gross generalizations highlights Tarantinos complete lack of historical knowledge. Generalizations is what caused the Holocaust.
Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs was his ONLY good works. He is now overrated and full of himself.
@Allante715 Your argument is so adolescent that there is no reason to even counter argue with it. Generalizations is what caused the Holocaust? Wtf are you talking about?..
@punishalltrolls Dude, what the fuck. I never said that it wasn't done before, or that real Nazis hadn't tried to kill Hitler- I meant that stuff like this, I've never seen something like that, of this grade, in FILM. Not real life. And don't get me wrong. Germans are a fucking great people with a great culture. By the way, I posted that RIGHT after I saw the movie and I was super psyched out. What's your problem?
@30STMYesThisIsACult and you are doing nothing to stop neo-nazis. the all-germans-are-nazis stereotype is getting old, or ancient. you must be retarded to call it perfect. you must be a racist.
I'm glad he addresses the realism at the end. A lot of people are saying the film, while good, is not realistic. I suspect most of them are talking simply about historical facts, because those aside, I thought there was a stunning authenticity to most of the film.

@VFDbranch13 thanks for perpetuating an old ignorant stereotype.

@30STMYesThisIsACult don't forget japan. the basterds may have even killed those who opposed the nazis. see THE PIANIST and VALKYRIE.
those who thumbed up your dumbass comment are retards.

@30STMYesThisIsACult basterds also killed innocent people who weren't nazis. but none of his movies are realistic anyway.

@30STMYesThisIsACult and you are doing nothing to stop neo-nazis. the all-germans-are-nazis stereotype is getting old, or ancient. you must be retarded to call it perfect. you must be a racist.

@30STMYesThisIsACult Yes this would have been a better end for WWII, killing 150 000 innocent Japanese civilians was a little unfortunate.

I'm glad he addresses the realism at the end. A lot of people are saying the film, while good, is not realistic. I suspect most of them are talking simply about historical facts, because those aside, I thought there was a stunning authenticity to most of the film.
