To controlled a movement for anything hand held. A projection point that far way would be way more jittery and erratic. I've seen these types of objects myself. Floating slow and deliberate. I know no one will believe me but I saw similar red lights like this around midnight on Saturday 24th April in the UK. I counted 8 in total. I was too busy watching them to think of grabbing my video camera. I'm used to seeing planes fly at night as I am near the flight path for Heathrow. These were not like normal planes as they did not have flashing lights and they were not heading towards the airport. They were just red globes as shown in this video that seemed to get higher then disappear.
