  • @summeronthechain Because I can vouch for him. If I were to be driving and see a Veyron, Ferrari 458, Lambo Reventon, and a Viper, that mean fascia on the viper would draw my attention the most. Viper is the meanest looking car on the road and the best sounding V10 of all time.

    I used to own a 2003 Viper GTS and i got A LOT of looks (people pointing, turning to get a look, etc.). Vipers really are quite rare to see - at least in my area.

    And yes, Veyron is a pig-ugly car. Very ugly, and has no design queues on it that would draw my attention to it. Not knowing prices or car brand names, if i saw those three cars on the road, I would look at the viper...as well as listen to a true engine noise.

    Veyron is very ugly. Most people believe this to be true. It has no unique designs that would make me go "wow, what a good looking car." It looks like it was all about aerodynamics.

    Sorry, but on the track, a Viper/Vette would still put even mighty Koenigsegg to shame. See Nurburgring lap times.

  • @hdidane00 You can get a used Viper GTS 1998 - 2000 in the upper 30k's here in the U.S. Add another 15-20k in mods (including turbos, tune, etc.) and you've got a world beater. It's not designed for commuting to the grocery store and work; it's built for funnnnn!!!

  • A proper spoiler actually reduces drag under acceleration and increases drag under braking. His was supposedly a functional wing. I also find it funny that the GTR won all the high speed rolls but lost the low speed rolls & according to you the wing is now the difference? Who's living in reality now?

  • The GTR is awesome of the line and will beat most anything aside from a GT2RS.

    However, compare it to a 4th Generation Viper - NOT a 10 year old one and the Viper will beat it on the track and in any roll-on.

    Of course 530 whp on a dyno jet equates to (roughly) 466 rwhp on a Dyno Dynamics. So a 466 whp car racing a 420 whp car that is lighter, better geared, and with a lower drag coefficient from speeds which AWD has no advantage it is very easy to see the less powerful car winning.

ACR does 1/4mile in about 12.5sec and a stock GTR with 480bhp is low 11 sec 1/4 mile.. and a GTR with 480bhp had only 404AWHP when we tested it on our dyno shop =))) and Motortrend tested it to 406awhp stock..go tell some farytail to some others ppl.. i guess ignortant american will believe you.. but you don`t have me fooled until i see the dyno this is A LOAD OF CRAP...LOL

  • @rottepung666 A 12.5 in an ACR is an extremely average time for a stock cars. Most decent drivers get very low 12s, and a handful have ran high 11s stock.

    A low 11 for a stock GTR is a very good time, most of them run high 11s.

    Looks at the cars unbiasedly or don't look at them at all.

    Of course, the only reason a stock GTR would me marginally quicker in a stock 1/4 mile is the launch, where it has an advantage. From a roll, as seen here, it does not have that advantage.

  • @summeronthechain nha it`s not.. if you have semi slicks and the track had ALOT with VHT..maybe you get under 12sec i`ve seen one vid.. but thats pro driver on rwd cars..any way you are very wrong when you talk about roll on races.. a GTR is bad news for high torque cars in a roll race they do VERY good they had the 60-130mph record for a long time they`re still on second and third place.. a GTR don`t need torque because it`s so fast in gearing that manual will get destroyed..

  • @summeronthechain man you gotta look up some vid dud..this car is known for beating high performance car over and over again.. a jap show did race a Corvette ZR1 with 640bhp and 830NM torque and 1540kg vs the new GTR 530bhp 600Nm and 1750kg so the Corvette had the roll race inn hand first race the ZR1 and GTR both entered the straight in 0.8mile in 255.56kph next race the Corvette Zr1 won by 5 kph on the GTR thats just plane sick of the GTR heavy ass car and WHAY lower PTWR but still right there

    Get your facts straight. Road&Track, Car&Drive all list standard Viper GTS 1/4 mile times around 12.2sec. ACR would do a 12.0 and thats pretty damn good for a car over a decade old.

  • @rottepung666 I will help clear up the confusion. Both cars to my knowledge were done on the same dyno in shoot-out mode, so the numbers are directly comparable. The reason why the GTR lost 2 of the races was because the GTR started in the wrong gear. I've done it myself against a much slower car & the result was the same as in this video. The drag coefficient for a ACR Viper is .39 vs .27 for the GTR-Adv GTR. HP/WT-adv GTR. Shorter gearing is actually better for roll races=GTR ftw

  • @96stealth Nope. Your knowledge of the situation is limited. The Viper was dynoed on a Dyno Dynamics, and the GTR was dynoed on MAPs Dyno-jet.

    The drag Coefficient of a GTS ACR is .35, not .37.

    You also have no idea of what gear the GTR was in.

(its not, I was there) Which would mean on a dynojet would be 480-490 which is impossible for a stock (cough) exhaust only Viper. The drag co for a 96 gts viper is .35. The drag co for a 99 acr viper is .39. Even if it was .35 its still less aerodynamic by a significant amount.

  • @Ryou4real39 The Nissan doesn't rely on it for straight line acceleration. Aerodynamics help keep it planted through the corners and remain stable at extremely high speeds.

    Of course you realize that there is a decent amount of variance between what each dyno reads at the wheels.

    And yes, replacing the stock exhaust which removes some semi-restrictive mufflers/resonators/catalytic converters on an 8 liter engine can free up a decent amount of HP.

  • @summeronthechain of course, sometimes that can happen, but youre not going to gain nearly 30whp from exhaust alone...either way, both nice cars. my dad used to have a couple gts's, one was a venom 650r :). im just bitter that there's never any stock vs stock races between a gtr and an 08 or later viper lol...or a twin turbo viper vs a gtr! guess i gotta hurry up and get my own! lol

  • @ristika89 Well, the operator for the Dyno estimated that it can vary as much as 11% from dyno to dyno. At 437 rwhp that would be nearly 50 rwhp +/-, If I had a GTS that didn't put down at least 400 RWHP I would be very concerned.

    My ACR was just an example of a perfect condition car with a very healthy engine.

    Stice the stock exhaust is pretty restrictive on a Viper V10, its easy to see gains of 25+ hp at the wheels with an exhaust system. Paired up with a good set of headers with a 5 to 1 merge collector can see gains for 45+ hp at the wheels. A gen2 Viper will usually dyno around 415 to 423 at the wheels in stock form and with a good driver, run low 12's and high 11's in the quarter mile.

  • @ViperSRTnACR In fairness a 300hp mustang from the 90s (4.6L) can gain 20whp from exhaust alone, so 25-30+ on an 8.0L V10 wouldn't surprise me in the least.

    Yeah, that sound about right for a gain with the 4.6's. One of the best deals is to throw a 2.8L Roe supercharger on the Viper with a VEC tuner and 70mm throttle bodies for more air flow and at 10 psi fully tuned, the Viper will put out 750+ hp to the wheels and be an easy low 10 sec car with a good driver. The "Roe equipped" record (along with a 150 shot) is still held by a guy nicknamed "1Tony1" with a best of 9.28@156 in the 1/4 in his Viper GTS.

  • @ristika89 The vast majority of cars do not need to be re-tuned for an exhaust. Remember, the Viper is dead simple. 2 valves per cylinder. 1 camshaft. Pushrods. split throttle bodies. The fanciest thing on that engine is that it has electronic fuel injection. Also, the stock Viper used restrictive mufflers and piping for NVH reasons. And that was before OEM mandrel bent exhaust tubing.

Start with a road-speed where the gear-splits keep the Nissan out of the boost & the Nissan loses. The Nissan has the peaky HP & the AWD & computer power. The Viper does all that with Big-Ass tires, & lots of displacement. Two complete opposites, with identical results.

  • Srt10 viper owner here. At 490 rwhp I raced a 510awhp gtr. On paper I should have won. The but his awd hooked at 60 mph while my tires spun a lil bit. I result was I got beat by half a car length. At 3300 pounds after 80 pounds weight reduction vrs his 3800 pounds I should have won... Don't underestimate the gtr my domestic loving brothers. It's bad ass

  • @kageryu311 Viper = Man's car. The GTR is an unentertaining, unreliable, easy to drive, automatic piece of shit. My grandmother could run a decent lap time in a GTR with its stupid flappy paddles and electronic gizmos. The Viper is for someone who wants a challenge. It doesn't even have a tcs button. I am completely unimpressed by the GTR and would take a 370z over one if I had a choice.

  • @ellisfreedman First of all the GT-R isn't an automatic. Its a dual clutch manual. Secondly the GT-R is a fun and outstanding car. Thirdly it is very reliable and has very few issues. Vipers are for guys who are looking to compensate for the lack of what they have in their pants. Nice cars but not as fun or accomodating as a Corvette or GT-R.

    And how can you say you would take a 370z over a GT-R when you haven't even driven one?
