At 1:15 notice Jimi Hendrix, onstage and about to perform the immortal "Star Spangled Banner set," enjoying Rob. He'd played with Sha Na Na at a private club co-owned by Andy Warhol, and invited them to Woodstock to open for him. Rob's Fillmore version of Teen Angel is the definitive version, google the Fillmore archives at "Wolfgang's Vault." He has explained that as he walked to the front of the Woodstock stage, a solid wall of pot smoke hit him and he almost choked.
They had fun kind of goofing on Do Wop. This song was only 9 years old when they played it at Woodstock .I saw them in Asbury Park in the early 70s . Cheech and Chong were the opening act.
That was so dang cool! Donny is adorable, he was my first TV boyfriend, when their show was on. I wrote him letters and he always wrote me back, such a great guy. They are playing in Laughlin in a couple of weeks and I want to see them, I might get to meet Donny after 32 years if I get to go!!!
I got the remastered DVD set right as it came out this (now) past year, and I absolutely LOVE this part. Yeah, Rob is pretty flat alright. Love Donny trying not to crack up as Rob is grabbing hold of his arm! Is this uploaded from the standard DVD version or is this from the Blu-Ray?
That's your opinion but I'm surprised you don't like it because it has to do with death & you have "death" in your name! According to what I've read, Jimi Hendrix watched them play in clubs in NYC & loved them!
thax its quite interesting that Jimi Hendrix enjoyed Rock n roll as much as the next guy and i wasent quite sure wat the song is about but i like rock n roll and im 17 and i like psychedelic music but i still think at the hop is better it just shows that Sha na na are real a real rock n roll band its just that teen angel doesnt sound that rock n roll its sounds a bit bland compared to at the hop
Actually the singer Rob Leonard sounds almost identical on their first album Rock N' Roll is Here to Stay' I have the album" Hendrix loved them, great performance"""
This is the first time I've seen the whole song from Woodstock. I still think Rob Leonard is off key, but on a more positive note. Donny York... Badass then, Badass later, Badass now!
when I said badass, I only meant his talent, not necessarily his personality. But if I had said "amazing singer with superhuman ability" 3 times it would have made me seem like even more of a windbag than I am
OK, I thought you meant him personally & that you knew something! LOL!!! I don't think if you said "amazing singer with superhuman ability" 3 times would have made you seem like a windbag! You'd sound like a Sha Na Na fan!
Rob sounded a bit rough. I don't know if he was nervous(it was only their third or fourth live gig) or it was too early on a Monday morning for him. Great historical piece, nonetheless.
I read a recent article, I think it was in Newsday ( a Long Island, NY paper), that he was trying not to inhale the pot smoke that wafted onto the stage from the audience.
Yup! I think most of the guys were around 20 or 21 except for Jocko who was 19!! I wanted to be at Woodstock but I was only 12 at them time! Too young to travel Upstate by myself on a $1.00 a week allowance!
This man teaches me Swahili.

LOL @ 1:26....the random hippie's interest is suddenly sparked right as the camera cuts to a shot of Rob Leonard's ass in those tight pants! LOL!!!!

I'm willing to bet that Sha Na Na was one of the bigger mind-bowers at Woodstock. Wow.

@ 1:18- Jimi looks like he is enjoying Sha Na Na's set.
Donny reminds me of Johnny Knoxville here..strange to see him minus the shades.

Well, it could be that he is trying to sound sad or the fact that they had been waiting all night, hehe!
But he could be nervous as you said or it was to early in the morning.
