it is definitely Clapton on the solo...no way Harrison could pull that off like that...he's great in his own way, but that touch, tone and phrasing can only be Clapton...that is a certainty...and by the tone of this clip, my opinion is that Clapton probably played it with his black beauty '50s 3-pickup Les Paul that he had at that time...the tone of this clip is right on...great job!
@avajo99 I agree, there's no doubt it's Clapton, Harrisson co-wrote the song, I'd guess he wrote the second part, where the solo is on, but that's Clapton all the way!! I didn't know he owned a Black Beauty Les Paul, that's interesting, take care!!
great solo, george might have played it but clapton probably did. the thing is that sounds like harrison's late 60's tone(one of the greatest tones in rock history)harrison had such a nice tone but so did clapton, that doesnt sound like his cream tone at all though. it's up in the air, i kinda think george played it but everyone has been tellin me it was clapton
@zut212 it's in the key of D and I'm using the standard tuning. It really goes to D major and minor pentatonics, like the Blues does a lot. If you listen to the guitar players that are influenced by the blues, you'll find that a lot, like Jimmy Page, Clapton, and so forth. Try doing that over a Blues progression, use major and minor pentatonic, ok?
And for those who are in doubt, Eric Clapton did the solo, over a George Harrison progression, and both wrote the song together. Have fun!!!!
Word... Clapton played it and no way Harrison could pull this solo. Anyway even if you didn't know who played it just by listening too it you can tell its Clapton and not Harrison. Harrison's talents were his own but anyone that has spent a lot of time listing to Eric know that these soaring type solos are his trademark.
whoa shit the bed! After learning the chords tot he rhythm and main riff last night, here i'm sat at work planning tonights workload and decided the solo would be awesome to master.
After finding some tabs I thought I'd check out how the guys on youtube were playing it and I come across this fantastic video breakdown with a slow section.
I cannot imagine a better accompaniment to the tabs and can't wait to run through it tonight. I'm sure your slow section will be used extensively. Subscribed!
I've been trying to nail this for weeks and I'm sure I'll get near enough - I just lack patience and end up improvising. Anyway, you've got it licked and the sound is pretty spot on too!
Is that pentatonic or what?? What's the root of the solo?

Is your guitar in Eb or in standard tuning?
It's amazing how the solo switches from E Major pentatonic to E Minor pentatonic.

You hit the solo perfectly. Nice matching tone of Eric's "woman sound" as well.
tabs would have been nice.

I love that song.
Hard to nail, though.
Early version of Clapton playing it is
fairly easy. However, later versions are hard.
Work the callous.
