  • I can see how people could take advantage of this now that they know KLM does this. I have never flown KLM however have heard good things about them, and now I'm more likely to fly w/them simply because they seem to care about their customers. Not because I might get something free. Flying is a pleasure for me, no matter what. Losing luggage & all of that, albeit sometimes frustrating, is part of the experience. Nice job KLM.

  • No amount of gimmicks and social media marketing can mask a poor service and uncaring customer service. Those who are fooled by marketing deserve what they get.

  • KLM Suck ass. Flew last year with them. Found a cockroach in my food tray. No joke. Their solution... to bring me a new tray and stir the food to make sure it was ok.. When they had finished it looked like a tray of sick. Couldn't eat anything the rest of the journey. Will never fly with them again. Wrote letters & emails of complaint only to receive one response containing an offer of discount for my next journey with them. I don't think so.

  • How about a little act of kindless like paying for my hotel? I was stranded in Schipol. My KLM flight from Dublin was late, as a result I missed My KLM flight to Kuala Lumpur. KLM took no responsibility. Not so Kind...... Amsterdam is cold in January..

  • Seems like a great idea on the drawing board, but reality seems to show other. As one commenter said "A social media campaign does not work if you are not authentic in your core values and business"... Keep calm and carry on!

  • @Denidorm - Are you genuinely saying that you are not interested in knowing that if you had a choice between KLM and a rival and KLM might give you a gift worth real money wouldn't influence your decision? Advertising is not evil - it plays a key part in everyday decisions whether you like it or not. EG how do you know about up-coming movies? Your mobile phone? the clothes on your back? (granted it is also about making the advertiser money, but welcome to the real world mate - cash is king).

  • @Denidorm That is fair - discounted tickets as an option always welcome. However if they do that all you'll see is other airlines fallowing suit (I work in travel and see it all of the time). This way, they can be unique. Getting a gift also makes you feel special(ish), and this is great for brand association. Viral marketing is, in most cases, amusing and non intrusive - I agree with you on that this is more blatant than we've come to expect. my original comments were on ads in general. :)

  • so I should have twittered that KLM was supposed to take me to AMS on time instead of leaving me on the ground for 3,5 days, booking me on substitute flights which they then cancelled again w/o informing me and letting me look like a total idiot and waiting in several hundred meter long lines with only 2 junior staff members serving hundreds of passengers...good to know

  • I'm really surprised with this... It's a major great lesson to marketing professionals all over the world, in all segments. Most of the times they are not so sure what to do with the social medias... so they keep spend lots of money with no consistent return. It's a lesson that in modern times we can get back to basic and make the difference. So small and so so so great!!! The best!!

  • @TNOCtubes Untill things turn sour. Weather broke down KLM completely. Especially communications. It demonstrates that companies use social media for marketing, but not for customer service. They have no coherent strategy.

  • Schiphol Airport has one of the worst customer service records of any airport I have been to in my life. Being the hub for KLM, I don't know how KLM is still one of the top inter-continental airlines in the world.

  • What a joke. With the shit that KLM is doing to there customers, then this is not really going to make up for it.

    I had a return flight with KLM, but because of a forgotten visa I had to postpone my flight for 1 hour. That costed me €2000, because not only did I have to buy a new flight to Cuba, but they forced me to buy a new return ticket. So I ended up paying 2 times for the same seat on the flight back. Not because I couldn't reach my return flight, just because that is their rules.

  • @whirlmkfan The visa I could have bought where I middle landed, and even 50 meters from the checkpoint in the Havana airport. So no that was not the problem.
