Who is Randy Pausch? And not to be a downer but the scene kinda made the guy sound a little slow. The captain had just said "cauterize the view screen". Meaning, let me see. Then a guy walks by and says "we have visual"? Kinda weird.
@ElGatoLoco698 Randy Pausch was a computer science professor at Carnegie Mellon. He was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer. He gave a talk called "Really achieving your childhood dreams" which became known as "The Last Lecture" as it really was the last lecture he would ever give as a professor. It became an internet phenomenon and it truly is remarkable.
One of his dreams was "to be Captain Kirk". J.J. Abrams decided to give him part of that dream by allowing him to cameo
So cool he got to live one of his dreams...Also, this was truly a wonderful gesture by J.J. Abrams and all those connected to Star Trek. Well done guys!
vixit from latin translates to "he has lived" I feel you can safely say that about Prof. Pausch's life. I literally LOL as I watched this cameo....even is his final days he was fulfilling dreams....an inspiration to the end. Randy has not died he lives on in us, his students.
I did not know about this cameo and did not recognize him even though I saw this movie many times and even though Mr. Pausch had a very positive and powerful impact on my life. Thanks to chucky5p for posting this.
Kudos to J.J. Abrams for inviting Dr. Pausch to make the cameo! It will be so precious to his kids when they're old enough to see why their dad was a fan of Star Trek.
I was never a Star Trek fan, but I watched this movie just to see Randy Pausch in it, and I couldn't find him there. Long after the movie was released, I found him today. Thank you so much chucky5p for posting this!
Thank you for posting this. I wanted to see this ever since I read about it on his homepage. "Don't blink" is good advice, but it must have been a great experience for him.
who (and why) clicked dislike is beyond me ..

If you pause at 0:01 second, he has a badge on the left side of his chest and then at 0:03 second, its gone.

i'm glad that his kids got to have this as one of their fathers legacy - a sweet memory I'm sure his family will cherish forever.
Rest in peace
