A Nice Video. Its always a pleasure to watch a (O\_!_/O) in motion. I have a 1968 Beetle which I just adore and will hold on to it the day I die. The beetle in this video is not a Super its a Standard. Supers had the BIG BELLY front bonnets and the spare tyre was laid down flat. Otherwise this (O\_!_/O) is a Little Beauty.

not a super beetle, one way to tell is the front suspension, super has a machpherson strut while standard beetle is not. Super beetle has rounded bonnet and has bigger capacity compared to standard beetle.

I own a 72 super and I can assure you this is not a super. Nevertheless it's still a bug and that is all that matters. Great cars! Check out my vids to see the difference in the super and standard.

this is standard bug, not a super. it isnt rounded enough in the front, and doesnt have the usual front clip grill. the easiest waty to tell is by looking at the spare tire, if it lays flat it is a super, you may just have the wrong manual. just by looking at it i know it isnt a super

Yeah, not a super beetle, the front isn't bulbous. But to be sure, does the front suspension have springs and how does the spare tire sit in the trunk?

Yeah it is a super beetle. super beetles had a flat windshield up until 1974 when they started to make them rounded

Volkswagen started selling the Super Beetle in 1971. 71 and 72 Super Beetles had flat windshields, 73 and later had curved windshields.

Standard Beetles, like THIS ONE continued to have flat windshields until 1976.

Super Beetles had louvered front aprons as well, and a spare tire layed flat in the front trunk.

This is a STANDARD Beetle. NOT a Super.

I agree. I don't know much about the technicalities of the Beetle and the Super Beetle, but I'm pretty sure this one is a super. Thats what the owners manual says at least.

@kian777 It is a standard beetle. You can tell by the longer front hood, inside the trunk I bet the spare sits upright. A super's sits flat.

those saying it's not a super, how do you know? The windshield? I'm sorry but in 1972, the supers had the usual flat windshield. The only real differences were the suspension, bigger trunk (on account of the suspension), and being 2 inches longer (again because of the suspension).

The front deck lid is the give away. On the standard Beetle it's a little more pointed at the end and tucks down behind the bumper. On the Super it's more rounded and sort of hangs out over the bumper hence the "pregnant bug" nickname). But your correct, the 71 & 72 Supers had flat windshields.
