Somebody please give me some information about the Turbo train that was first built in 1970. What happened to the Turbo train? Does it still run between Ottawa and Montreal? Does it even still run in Canada anymore? I have never seen it on the Toronto-Montreal CN line.
Unfortunately, its counterpart, The Talgo, servicing the West Coast corridors between Oregon and Washington, does not provide the same tantalizing travel experience as The Turbo. I always had the feel of steel-on-steel contact underneath me as we picked up speed.
@Trainmaster189 First, i accidently hit the 'vote down' button. My bad, my mistake.
I think that if we had successful high speed diesel technology in the 70's I don't think that the railways would have had to become a gov't subsidiaries. Amtrak and VIA wouldn't have been born and we would have had private railway competition and good old North America would have been a very different railway empire.
beautiful work! I wonder if it were possible would you ever consider buildign the Rohr Turboliner- It was a unique train whihc was an awesome sight...
The... only... LRC model **at all**........??? So the LRC HO scale model I have (and have had for fifteen years) is a figment of my imagination? Wait..... no, there it is, sitting on my locomotive shelf. Whew.
I'm sorry, I should have been more clear. There was a resin kit of the LRC locomotive produced in the 1990s that was referred to as "Mr. Bubbly" by the Canadian dealers who carried it. It was probably completed by about five people in the world, and required modelling skills far beyond what most people can accomplish in order to fix all the flaws. Your snarky tone devalues your achievement in actually building one. That is, if you ever did finish it.
@rapidotrains If my comment came across as such then accept my apologies. I was having some fun and thought you were on the same fun wavelength, particular when I read your reply - chuckling about the 'five people in the world' comment. I figured it was four. Then I read the last two sentences.
You're Canada's *largest* and most successful model railway manufacturer. I'm glad you don't need me as a customer.
These trains ran in the US near my house. On one trip, some idiot dropped a big rock off a bridge onto the turbo. It smashed through the windshield of the rear power unit, killing a passenger. Regrettable.
I will tell you all this, Rapido, I'm picking up 3 of your FP9's just to modify my Athearn/Highliner shells specifically for your new drive systems. I want only the best on my Units, and you guys clearly are the best :)
now jason, umm i saw the ad, "track, coming in 2010", is there rapido track coming out? and i dont know if you remember, but imaaron from elmwood hobby works in winnipeg, you guessed that im 14, and i was 17 LOL.
Unfortunately the Turbo was put out of comission due to fires and lack of parts for repairs some 25 - 30 years ago
