  • lol i really wanna perform this peice now but maybe a tuba solo instead ????? that would be really cool

  • i agree with tubamarc, great job with the arrangement. unlike all the million other videos of this song being done by bands, this is closer to the originally written, meaning the chords are fantastic :D

  • were can I find the scoring for this arrangement?

  • WHY is there a dominant 7 at 1:38?? That practically destroys the meaning of Whitacre's music. If it's a mistake, okay, but if not, I think I may have to kill an arranger.

    I love this sound though.

  • That's not supposed to be there!

  • I think you're hearing a hint of an overtone. I have the audio recording from this concert and it's just a major chord.

  • It does sound weird. I think this is a slightly rewritten version of this song because the version I have doesn't end like that

  • i was the arranger, and after reading this, i went back to check the score because you are right, IF it is a dom7 chord, that would be just plain wrong. but in fact it is an E-flat major chord with no 7. you scared me for a second because i was afraid i screwed it up. but i must be an overtone you are hearing because everyone has an E-flat, G-natural or B-flat.

    thanks for the feedback

ps. this is just cuts from the performance, the whole performance was approx. 4 min

  • @jazzbassoonist Great job with the arrangement!

  • @jazzbassoonist I think he/she was talking about the A-flat chord right before the E-flat. And I listened closely and indeed heard a dominant 7th (G-flat) within that chord). So that one chord did catch me off guard...

  • Yep, that chord is a mistake, it sounds like it was meant to be played, but unfortunately it takes away from the original music. Totally agree with you

  • ew... it sounds terrible

  • @Bbobe900000 That minor 7th destroys the effect. I shudder when I hear it. This is why IV7 > V7.

  • in my opinion, all a good band needs is french horn, euphonium and tuba. Those 3 make anything perfect =)

  • eh. they make anything mellow. i mean they have a nice sound but you need some timbre in there from trumpets or trombones.

  • i am not gonna say that this is not great. but there is a key part missing or i am not hearing it correctly.

  • The videos are just snippets of the concert. Can't give it all away for free - just a taste.

  • it's better played with a complete band. gives the best dynamic ranges. played this at a concert, very hard pice for it's very open...or, if you mess up, it's easy to hear

  • FRENCH HORNS!!! My instrument!!!

  • I heard a drum and bugle corps play this. I was the most amazing brass sound i have ever heard

  • As far as I know only one corps has performed it. If it's the same one it was an amazing sound, but i guess that is a biased opinion. :D

  • Gah! Who was the DCI group that did this? I almost want to say it was JSU...or was it a Div. II band that did this? I can't remember.

  • Glassmen played this in 2008

  • Really?! I did not know that! I must look that up.

  • glassmen is doing it again this year for 2009 and it sounds even better.

  • actually, it's just one of the Glassmen's warmup and encore pieces, of which they perform beautifully.

  • Who was it? I heard that Spirit may have done it a few years ago.

  • dayam thats amazing the trumpet vibrato at 23 sent chills. down my spine

  • im crying now.

  • I felt like i had an orgasm with the chord at 0:30

  • I'm more of a 0:35 person myself. Or 1:08, for that matter.

  • WOOO GO HORNS!

  • Damn!wow

    French horns

  • This is absolutely beautiful!!! Wonderful tone! Great arrangement! Would love to hear a live performance!

  • is there any way that i could get the full recording of this? its by far the best recording i have heard to date.

  • so good so good

  • phenomenal sound

  • great conductor, but the whole piece would be nice.

  • It sounds like there are 10 tubas up there.

  • Whole piece, please.

  • Lovely.

  • This has to be the best instrumental recording I've heard so far of this piece. I liked it very much! The players did the piece a lot of justice - the conductor must know what he's doing as well.

  • Interesting Arrangement. I've never heard it in this key before. Very beautiful though
