  • Suzhou to Xi'an (708 miles or 1140 km). Houston,TX to Orlando, FL (872 miles or 1403 km). NYC, NY to LA,CA (2451 miles to 3944 km).

  • im doing trains in china....i was just told its cheaper than flying around so meh, WHY NOT! although its gunna be such a long journey :( i kinda just wanna get places! haha.

and by the way, did u not have like a door or shutters for that bed area?!!

  • Gentlemen, or ladies (but let's be honest- given the slightly geeky argument about distances- it's clearly boys we're talking to here). Thanks for the interest and the comments. Let's be honest, Houston-Orland, NYC-California, Suzhou-Xi'an - they're all long journeys. If you want to continue the argument I suggest you visit mytrainislongerthanyours

  • @dannylau328 lol. seeing your answer is really a joke. OMFG how i admire your 'superior intelligence'. what kind of a retard would say some shit like this. did you get some brain damage??? have you ever been to shanghai? have you ever been to xi'an? do you have any idea in which province xi'an is? i'm just feeling pity for you

  • @dannylau328 OMG you're not aware how retard you are? i already told you i'm from Suzhou and you think you know china better than me? what a fuckin' douchebag...and i just traveled from houston to orlando last year it's like 1000miles which is around 1600km. the distance between suzhou and xi'an is less than 1500km. check the map by yourself mothafucka...

  • @dannylau328 it's not that far, i'm from suzhou. it's like from houston to orlando probably

  • If you think that was long, try Beijing to St Petersburg on the trans-siberia train: more than two weeks on a train.

  • It's a long way, but I enjoy long train journeys. Will be doing lots more all over China.

  • Don't rule out the hard seat! Me and a friend did 50 hours hard seat from kunming to shanghai lol.

  • Too hardcore for me.

We're going from Beijing to Harbin next weekend and I have to confess we booked soft sleeper.

  • Haha, I have to confess that the only reason I got the hard seat was because there was nothing else left and I had to get back to Shanghai for a flight. I've never been so glad to get off a train in my life, but me and this friend look back now and laugh about the experience so much though :D wouldn't change it. Loads of Chinese people were on the train from kunming all the way to Shanghai aswell though which made us feel better. Don't even ask what the loo's looked like though at the end...

  • Didn't think it was something you'd do by choice. Still an experience though.

A couple of months ago we missed a train in Shenyang and had to take a 11 hour bus ride to Beijing - that was unpleasant.

  • I can imagine. I've never done a long distance bus journey and hope I never have to, I've not heard of anyone who enjoys them to be honest. At least a train is a level, bump free journey with decent air con usually.

  • The bus was so cold I ended up putting on the clothes I had packed for the weekend. 2 pairs of trousers was necessary.

  • Well you'll enjoy soft sleeper a lot more I'm sure :) Just cheking out your vids now, I love seeing peoples vids from China, I'll be moving back out there in August to teach hopefully.

  • This video was from a visit in 2006, but now I live in Beijing.

    I teach at a university.

Love living in China, only been here 5 months so there's lots more to see and places to visit.

  • God. I did 36 hours from Xiamen to Tai'an, standing 27 hours, haha...

  • lol!xD 老外也没买到软卧

  • 因为外国人不想软

  • hard sleeper is the most convinient and affordable way to travel in China. It could be very enoyable as you can interact with locals.

  • Exactly, couldn't agree more.

Will be back there again next year and will travel on hard sleepers.

  • lol

  • That maybe true, but we got soft sleeper seats on the fast train from Xi'an to Beijing and didn't enjoy the journea half as much as this one above. So this lao wei will stick to the hard seats.

  • Cool... obviously you can read chinese. lol I lived in china for like 15 years and I've only taken once or twice the soft sleepers. Sometimes you just don't feel all that necessary to spend more money for a softer bed. But the top bed on the hard sleeper is pretty tight tho. I am 5 ft 9 and I can't sit up straight. Oh by the way, it spells "Lao Wai", an A instead of E. Just to make a correction here lol. Sweet vid tho!

  • I've got to confess, we were staying with a friend in Suzhuo for his wedding - he translated for me ;-) But just keep that to yourself. Did learn some Putong Hua, but not enough symbols to read that. I'm 6 ft so it definitely was a squeeze, all the other bunks were taken by my freinds though, so no choice unfortunately. Noted the Lao Wai spelling for the future. That pinyin can a little confusing too at times...

  • 老外也没买到软卧啊 哈哈
