he did so for the ps1 with resident evil 1 in 1996

viewtiful joe in 2003

You do realize that the director of RE1 is not the director of DMC don't you? The RE creator is Shinji Mikami. He also directed REmake, RE4 and God Hand. Kamiya directed RE2, DMC, Viewtiful Joe and Okami. This game is from Kamiya and not Mikami.
