actually FYE is not THAT bad i mean a couple years ago (and yes i KNOW it's been a while!) i got three DBZ movies each for $5 (and one was a 2 in 1!!!!) i got the father of goku, history of trunks, and Bojack Unbound + Super Android 13 so yea for $15 bucks THATS A DAMN DEAL :D
I'm glad to see that you support online stores. I've been using RightStuf for going on fourteen years now. Their sales are insanely good. My backup store is Robert's Anime Corner Store, followed by Amazon, followed by Ebay (last resort).
I actually sort of pity anybody who buys anime and manga in brick and mortar retail shops.
Wow, I found out about Rightstuf from this video and your Anime/Manga buying-tips video. I've recently got into Anime/Manga online (and buying it to support the product, of course :D), and I've only bought from Amazon. I took advantage of the awesome "Buy 4-for-3 deal" from there for my Naruto manga!
Thanks for making the video, ForneverWorld (along with your older buying-tips video); taking a page out of your book, "Hope you have an awesome day!"
The reason the prices are so high is because not a lot of people buy it, and the reason people don't buy it is because the prices are too high. It's a cruel cycle
W-wha..... Where are the Vocaloid albums? Just kidding, I know they don't sell them there~
But, yeah, I totally get what you're saying! Online, you CAN get anime products at better prices. But, for some older, not as wanted stuff, you can get it at some stores for much less than you can get it online. I just wish there was a site that compared them all a once, like Kayak...
Lota average anime there... didn't see any great titles... I would pay those prices for most Ghibli productions though... love Ghibli anime... Howls Moving Castle anyone
Must be a US thing, it aint that expensive here in Australia
Anime in Best is expensive too but one time I did get Seven Samurai for 6.99 at FYE. It was probably marked down from 59.99. Amazon reigns supreme when it comes to anime.
$26 for 3 episodes of either Kalaedo Star, Kinos Journey, gatekeepers, Fushigi Yugi or "Soul Taker", not Soul Eater "Taker". That's NINE DOLLARS PER EPISODE
Amazon One Piece is awesome and the best part is Funimation let's you watch their franchise for free on their site and Bandai let's you watch their Youtube channel
You are 100% right, this is outrageous. 4 episodes of Bleach for 25 dollars?!
If I look in a digital store here in the Netherlands (bol.com) I can buy 12 episodes for 35 euros, that's 45 dollars. So that's 4 episodes for 15 dollars. Insane rip-off.
It's true that anime is very high priced, but think of this: Every episode is hand drawn, put onto a computer, and colored in individually. It takes thousands of these pictures to make one episode. Unless you want a really crappily drawn anime, the people in Japan need profit from Funimation and Aniplex and others so they could make thousands of pictures to make more episodes. So, really, I'm not so shocked that anime is overpriced in some stores, seeing as so much work is being put into them.
I agree with you 100%. I have loved anime for years and many more to come and when I see an anime I really enjoy amd want for DVD for easy quick use, they turn out to be very expensive. I got Hetalia: Axis Powers disc 1 and 2 for $80. And now that I hear season three is out, my wallet pinches. I dont have a job or anything so my parents by anime for me. I get anime DVDs maybe 1 every year
@KaoruxxHikaru If your parents don't like using a credit card to shop online, you should buy a Visa/credit card gift card and use it online. Amazon has really good deals on anime :)
i buy anime at Hastings, a store just like FYE. Manga normally costs $10.00, and DVD's range from 10-30 dollars i think maybe higher, i don't really buy DVD's.
I live in Canada and I go to the U.S lots for trip etcetera, etcetera and there is an fye there and since there is almost no anime products in Canada I still but it not only do I buy it for the fact that i can't get anime were I live but allot of the things i buy there anime related is pretty well priced
I'm so happy Funimation is releasing those One Piece "collection" sets of 26 episodes for under $35 ($21 on amazon). I just bought three recently and have fully enjoyed them, not to mention they also contain the original Japanese audio. I also just bought the first 26 episodes of Fullmetal Alchemist for around $25 from Funimation, also on Amazon. Just gotta take advantage of any good deals out there.
To be fair, it's pretty much only FYE I see charging anime for full MSRP, or like $5 below it. Honestly it's idiotic (FUNimation employees probably scratch their heads at how FYE puts anime out at their full MSRP).
Places like Best Buy at times do charge anime for close to the MSRP, but luckily it's not as high. The Sacred Blacksmith went for $40, instead of $60 (FYE probably charged that.).
buing anime off of ebay and amazon is the only way I have done it for years. Anime store prices have never made sense to me, they are always so random. Actually I do get anime from hastings sometimes, but they sell used and new anime.
lol the UK is even worse for this our prices are double yours like a single part of bleach are naruto could cost you £25 which is almost $50 not sure what the exchange rate is like now lol
@Mrforneverworld i was interesting in buying yu yu hakusho i mean every season is only $19.99 at best buy and i belive it is a good buy actually what do you think should i is the series worship that ?
@TheJunkieJuice Yeah you got a point there, I did get ripped off when I bought FLCL. And I do need to replace my copy of Desert Punk, great anime by the way, but yeah sometimes you can get a good deal if you just look but sometimes you got to know what to look for.
it experiences because more or less 60% of of go to the retailer and only 20 or less go to the amine business because the retailer buy a amount for a price and the retailer try to get profit for that
if any of your maybe have a xbox and/or ps3 and you have netflix most of this still will be on there been watching a lot of anime.so some what of a problem solve hope i helped.
if anime continues to be like this I doubt we will have it in the future. However i do remind you that making a singel episode of a anime can take weeks. so really if you think about the prise they are selling it at is quit reasonable.
My worst mistake was paying 60.00$ plus tax!!! on Samurai Champloo box set that's about 26 episodes....and over 60 dollars people!!!! WAS I HIGH OR SOMETHING WTF....but i still admit I fucking love Samurai Champloo so much :3
Go to Rasputin's they have some pretty cheap anime there as used (and sometimes new). I get used box sets and there at a really good price, you dont have to get everything "new" and the used DVD'S I get are pretty clean. The box might look bad but when I pull out the DVD's it looks like its barley been touched. And anime isn't really for kids =/
So it must be ONLY FYE. I went there on one occasion, just like you mention in the video, the prices are outrages. Found a blu-ray high school of the dead for $70, which is $25-$30 online. Also I'm not sure if you have one in your area, but you should check gohastings. Its a retail store which has anime dvd singles and boxsets for reasonable and, sometimes, cheap prices.
I was able to get a good deal on the DBZ steelbooks. Got 5 of them for $7.99. And that's including the Cooler one! However, you are correct. FYE is extremely expensive on most other things! $50 for season 5 of Dragonball at our local store.
Your right whenever I go to dye I always see them sell anime at an outrageous price so normally I stick to buying anime at walmart, therightstuf and amazon which sells anime at good prices
If I didn't have connections with the black market I'd probably never get anime for cheap. I bought the entire Bleach first season, One Piece East Blue saga, and Fullmetal ALchemist 2003 version all for twenty bucks.
While I only go to FYE for the little plushies (Rarely), a couple of Figures every once in a while, or some Anime Apparel, It's true. The DVD's are absolutely, outrageously overpriced. On the plus side though, The store is moving to a mall that I can access easier. Why that's a good thing? Ha, Everything was 30-50% off when I went. ;P
I actually like this video, it wasn't bad. Pretty funny, you should do more stuff like this. But yeah not all places have anime that expensive, even the cheaper places are pretty expensive. I recently bought some one piece sets, there combining the voyages, it was like two voyages I think for only 23 bucks which from what I have seen is a pretty good deal. Sorry for rambling. But I am just trying to say some places aren't that bad. This was a Hastings by the way.
i can agree it gets pricy at some of the stores. i like buying my anime at walmart or at Frys. Walmart isnt as bad as FYI but, its seemlying still cheaper online...i did notice though at Frys it has a huge section of anime and the prices were so outragous....the naruto box sets of the entire season ranged 30 to 50 dollars. its only 50 though because they offer a limited edition action figure of that particular box set in additon to the box set of dvds..its just depends to wat store you go to.
retail anime is nuts especially fye and alot of places in canada you pay retail price which is why i buy them online on rightstuf and amazon when they have sales
oh man! fye absolutly sucks! i was at the mall a couple months back and thought while i was there i'd try and pic up some Inuyasha i go to fye look around at the anime section i found the first season 69.99!... 70 bucks for freakin season 1 of inuyasha i said screw this and went to rightdtuf and got it for 30! retail anime has to go down to man i've gotten quit a few titles at best buy though!
It truly is a joke whenever I visit a best buy only to see them charging a arm and a leg for a single bleach dvd. For like 3-4 episodes, really? It truly disgusts me.
k kids i hope this helps. buy amazon or visa gift cards from any local store walmart etc. then make a normal account on amazon and use that money from ur cards to buy it and it will send it to ur house. u get it cheap and ur parents dont use their credit cards.
fye closed down where i live buffalo and we have best bust 2nd high pricing on anime dvds like wtf 38 dollars on yuyu hakusho blu ray where on the internet it says like 21 or 2o something dollars wtf best liars
Amazon is (almost) always going to be cheaper with anime, the problem is if you live in Canada like me, by the time shipping and duty fees are added, you might as well just pay the store price.
FYE is the most expensive DVD retail store, best buy is a little bit cheaper though if you don't have a credit card or don't know where to get an amazon gift card which they even sell at fye and best buy lol, you could go to best buy though, when I'm buying anime and don't wanna wait two days from amazon for it to get here, ill go to best buy, they even price match so say amazon has something for 18 bucks you could get it there for 18 bucks to if you have proof.
I remember going into a bestbuy seeing love Hina the complete series for 39.99 and when looked on amazon I saw it for 10.00 , huge mother freaking deferents
@RSNCICREO just because Japan has stuff expensive doesn't mean they should hike up the prices over here. What if tomorrow they started selling bread for $100 in japan? Would it be ok for them to charge us that price for it?
@MrForneverWorld the fee that a company pays for a license is is around 250000 thay need to make that money back quick profit loss margins so there going to wait for 20 here 30 there to make back the loss no its 50 here 70 there double cost = half time to make back money
See this is ridiculous. Nobody pays retail prices for these sets, even if there rare. Do your research people you can get any DVD for cheap if you look hard enough.
That crazy that bleach volume is like 2 dollars on amazon and 99 cents used. For 25$ I can get like 2 box-sets or like 10 volumes, and they wonder why nobody's buying that shit.
I went to FYE last weekend with some Christmas money and if I wanted to get Kekkaishi parts 1 and 2 I'd had to have spent $100 dollars plus tax just to get two 13 episode sets, $50 each obviously. Amazon has them both for $31 dollars, this is why I only shop online now a days. Amazon and Rightstuf are the places to go.
WAIT THIS VIDEO IS NOT FUCKING FACTUAL YOU HAVE NO PROOF THE PRICES ARE NOT CRAZY WHAT ARE YOU FUCKING HIGH YOU KRUSTY FUCK LOL THE PRICES FIT THE PRODUCT IN THE STORE YOU ARE THE CRAZY ONE TO BUY ONLINE WHICH CLEARLY GOOD PRICES ARE STARING IN YOU'RE FACE I WOULD PAY 69 DOLLARS FOR A 4 EPISODE SINGLE DVD
@EnvelTheTrader FUCK FYE lo who shop there i mean you have to be a special person to shop there also best buy no different best by be having crazy ass prices too a lot of retail stores do i mean if you want deals online the place 65 dollars for a 13 episode boxset uh NO FUCK THAT SHIT or 4 episode boxset for 56 dollars WTF
@MrDizzySpinda the problem is people dont know this but online stores are cheaper but you are getting an defected item. you might not ever notice it but your item is not 100% brand new perfect condition. i've ordered countless dvds/blurays online n seen many mistakes.
@Thephone999 LOL irrefutable factual evidence!!! If only these stupid ass stores would learn from the online market then maybe we could buy anime from them. Until then Amazon/rightstuf FTW
@MrForneverWorld BIG WORDS THERE DUDE HOW COULD YOU FUCKING SHOP ONLINE I MEAN THE RETAIL PRICES ARE THE BEST SCRUBB 69 DOLLARS FOR BLEACH SET AND IT COMES WITH 13 EPISODE I MEAN THATS A STEAL DRAGONBALL BOXSET 1 59 DOLLARS UHH AMAZING PRICES MAN YOU MISSING OUT LOL
@Thephone999 dude are you series I when I look on amazon the orange bricks are 20$,the yellow breaks are 30$ dragon ball z kai I saw once went as low as 20$ also
yea they need to fix the prices nobody is going to buy anime for that price. dude do u have movie stop in your area? maybe i should go in there with my camera and show how they charge out the ass for used anime
@bobsamurai Nah i dont have a movie stop near me but dude I'd love to see a video like that, lets show these people why anime isn't selling like it should!!
dude fuck them.. I was there today and there was a disc with the 4 dbz movies and it was 40 bucks! it wasn't even blu ray or anything it was such a rip off.. and for the 2nd voyage it was also 40 bucks... but i did get the new latest shonen jump magazine there lol..
and barnes and nobles... got two books there, fma volume 1... it was 9 dollars... op volume 20 was 7 dollars..
Yup it's like that at the F.Y.E. in the mall I go to as well. Sucks, but that's why netflix is awesome just 8 bucks a month and they have a decent amount of anime, and if netflix doesn't have it then there is the internet :) btw you should watch Clannad soon it's a good anime the dvd you saw at the store was the second season of it called Clannad After Story.
I found bleach DVD for around £8 in England

While I only go to FYE for the little plushies (Rarely), a couple of Figures every once in a while, or some Anime Apparel, It's true. The DVD's are absolutely, outrageously overpriced. On the plus side though, The store is moving to a mall that I can access easier. Why that's a good thing? Ha, Everything was 30-50% off when I went. ;P

It costed me $90 for only 30 episodes of a certain anime :(

I actually like this video, it wasn't bad. Pretty funny, you should do more stuff like this. But yeah not all places have anime that expensive, even the cheaper places are pretty expensive. I recently bought some one piece sets, there combining the voyages, it was like two voyages I think for only 23 bucks which from what I have seen is a pretty good deal. Sorry for rambling. But I am just trying to say some places aren't that bad. This was a Hastings by the way.

i can agree it gets pricy at some of the stores. i like buying my anime at walmart or at Frys. Walmart isnt as bad as FYI but, its seemlying still cheaper online...i did notice though at Frys it has a huge section of anime and the prices were so outragous....the naruto box sets of the entire season ranged 30 to 50 dollars. its only 50 though because they offer a limited edition action figure of that particular box set in additon to the box set of dvds..its just depends to wat store you go to.
greafleafninjasrulz 1 month ago
I spent 150 dollars at that store in total. ON ONE FUCKING THING. That was back when I didn't know where tf to get Anime from.

It truly is a joke whenever I visit a best buy only to see them charging a arm and a leg for a single bleach dvd. For like 3-4 episodes, really? It truly disgusts me.

RSNCICREO 1 month ago
@RSNCICREO just because Japan has stuff expensive doesn't mean they should hike up the prices over here. What if tomorrow they started selling bread for $100 in japan? Would it be ok for them to charge us that price for it?
MrForneverWorld 1 month ago 8
@MrForneverWorld the fee that a company pays for a license is is around 250000 thay need to make that money back quick profit loss margins so there going to wait for 20 here 30 there to make back the loss no its 50 here 70 there double cost = half time to make back money
RSNCICREO 1 month ago
@MrForneverWorld that was a horrible example, and has made your entire argument flawed. You have no credentials.

See this is ridiculous. Nobody pays retail prices for these sets, even if there rare. Do your research people you can get any DVD for cheap if you look hard enough.

@MrDizzySpinda the problem is people dont know this but online stores are cheaper but you are getting an defected item. you might not ever notice it but your item is not 100% brand new perfect condition. i've ordered countless dvds/blurays online n seen many mistakes.
