  • I just fixed my atari 2600 controller I bought. It was a mess. I might add a potentiometer

  • I didn't care much for this review, but I still gave it a tumbs-up for the attempted beer analogy (even if it doesn't quite work).

    I like beer.

  • the first intro is better

  • @crazy32495 Classic games on modern consoles or devices are usually updated for a cleaner look and feel. But 99% of those who played a classic prefer the original, because the look, sound, and feel takes the player(s) back memory lane.

There are many reasons why people will sell original games online for a high price.

To test out this theory, go to Amazon.com and find the original N64 Ocarina of Time game.

  • @FromThisWorld2Sirius Yeah, original games have value because they are collectible! It{s not the same retro feeling playing kirby on an emulator rather than on an old fashioned gameboy for example

  • @FromThisWorld2Sirius "Ocarina of Time"

    *troll mode, engage*

Pfft. Link to the Past was the last good Zelda game. N64 had no good games, and ruined all the classic series by making them 3D.

  • hey why is blinky green? i thought he was supposed to be a light blue

  • "IRREGARDLESS"

    What.

  • The sound effects are just like the Intellivision version (which I have!).

  • I did like the 2600 version!!

  • I going to subscribe to this dude, he managed to play the 5200 with the controller packaged with it.

  • Now why would I get that piece of crap game when I can get it for my iPod touch

  • @crazy32495 Because you are 9 years old?

  • @crazy32495 uh oh! somebodys a douche who doesnt understand the geek culture!now go back to ur romm, turn on your xbox or ps3 and play call of duty whille screaming on his mic and saying things he doesnt even understand.

  • @crazy32495 now why does anyone care? and maybe because this game console came before the ipod touch. use your head.

  • dude shut the !@#? up the atari 2600 pacman rocks so suck it

  • @tjdouglas7 hes talking about pacman 2600 not just the 2600 he loves that system,

  • I was 6 yrs old when I played Pac man.

  • i like how the highest rated comments are linked. :P

  • Man!!! You really took me back with this video...I can't tell you how many controllers...I mean...joysticks my parents had to buy for that consol...lol...congratz on getting ur first 5200 in ur 30's...lol

  • [iminent=J12zP8YVffOB]

  • Quite an excellent version of Pac-Man, too bad you had to play it with the 5200 controllers. I know some of the patterns in this game (they are not the same as the arcade patterns).

Better than the Atari 400/800 and Commodore 64 versions (a bit too slow and easy on the earlier levels), and a huge improvement over the abomination that was on the 2600.

  • this blows the 2600 out of the water

  • WOW

  • i could never get passed the first level

  • aw man that gaming system brings back some gooood memories

  • oh there was a 8-bit computer version of the 5200 Pacman, only thing it can let you play the 2600,genesis,collecovision controllers.

  • @SuperSkullz You mean the Atari 400/800 version? Wasn't the 5200 just one of those without a keyboard and different controllers?

  • THE ATARI TELEPHONE GAME!

  • I can't believe you (the reviewer) didn't mention the awesome level select option the game has. It is awesome to jack up the speed and play it super fast.

  • I can't believe you didn't mention the awesome level select option the game has. It is awesome to jack up the speed and play it super fast.

  • Pac Man is so boring lol

  • @FallenG0d Well ya know what YUR BORING!

  • @rydia86 lol fair enough

  • i'm pacmaaaaaaan...

  • where's inky

  • @yucky2322, Thanks.

  • @yucky2322, The controllers probably worked, but at the time of the video (or maybe for comedy) AVGN didn't know that you had top push the start button very hard to get it to work. Regardless the controllers sucked monkey fuck.

  • wtf i saw an add with a flying mexican super hero talking about a verison phone once again wtf

  • The squirrel stared into my soul!

  • is not oo hi oo oo u u on atari

    is oo hi oo u u D:

  • Looks almost identical to the C-64 version, pixel-for-pixel.

  • this pac man is not chomping all the time

  • Comment removed

  • @lemonlimestiv Whatever is recording this isn't capturing all the frames.

  • Another classic yet in itself. Call me insane, but I liked the 2600 also. Still wish they made one for the 7800 though.

  • "IRREGARDLESS" is not a word!!!!!

  • @Tom60062 Technically, it is. It means the same thing as regardless. I hate it, though

  • can anyone explain the demented squirrel at the beggining

  • @TheDragonCore DO NOT QUESTION THE SQUIRREL

  • @XxBroBuzzxX but, what does it mean?

  • @XxBroBuzzxX lmao but i question it

  • @XxBroBuzzxX (questions the squirrel)

  • @MarbalTm INTO THE PIT OF FIRE AND DOOM YOU GO.

  • @XxBroBuzzxX Have you not heard? I am invincible now. Thanks to the CHAOS EMERALDS! THOU SHALL NOT QUESTION THE EMERALDS!

  • @TheDragonCore LORD KARNAGE!

  • @TheDragonCore it i think his motto

  • @TheDragonCore

Its just a random logo :D

  • @TheDragonCore it got reds eyes from a camera?

  • @TheDragonCore I'm fairly sure it's an incarnation of Lord Karnage. Also, he was in an early Game Room review of Virtual On, squashing Larry the Leer (?) Accepting Male Prostitute (don't ask).

  • @TheDragonCore I'm sure you've heard this a thousand ties already by now, but for the people still replying to you top-rated comment the Classic Game Room Squirrel represents the background of the original show with Mark and David, which can be seen at watch?v=_xnovjxCg90 or in the DVD box set Classic Game Room: The Rise and Fall of the Internet's Greatest Video Game Review Show.

  • @TheDragonCore its.....a demented squirl.

  • @TheDragonCore its just the begening of his video

  • There are 3rd party controlers for the 5200 and custom made ones that recenter. They should be not so expencive now that the system has been out of date for atleast 30 years.

  • i agree with you! i have pacman for Atari 2600 and it sucks balls!

  • @manmandude9 Blame the pointless lawsuit Atari got into with Magnavox over KC Munchin for it was that long and drawn out mess that forced Atari to release the unfinished prototype for Pac-man to the market.

  • Irregardless isn't a fucking word. I am sick of people using it.

    Cool review, though!

  • @SeanOMatic

Mark can make up his own words if he want to!

Thanks for yet another amazing episode of CGR :)

  • @PuksisKissa

Oh, I love CGR videos and was just joking around. I am sorry if it didn't seem that way!

  • @SeanOMatic chill

  • @Pacman117productions

In the Family Guy episode "Lois Kills Stewie" (Part 2), Stewie threatens to consign anyone who uses "irregardless" to a work camp.

I was just using a little bit of a quote from a movie called Puff Puff Pass.

Spoken by Danny Masterson in Puff Puff Pass "Irregardless is not a word! This is going to drive me fucking crazy..."

    I was just joking.

  • @SeanOMatic I didnt need a 2 whole paragraphs

  • @Pacman117productions

I didn't need you telling me to chill in the first place, dick face. Go play some fucking ASCII role playing games and enjoy your life of not getting laid and rocking Frogger. Thank you, ma'am.

  • @SeanOMatic Oh your likw those 7 year olds who thinks its cool to cuss right?

  • @Pacman117productions

    I think you meant:

"Oh, you're like those seven year old who think it's cool to cuss, right?"

I don't think swearing is cool at all. I do think spelling properly is awesome, though. Ironically, I learned simple contractions and how to spell properly when I was seven. I didn't start calling people "dick face" until I got that down. I also didn't try to insult people who were clearly more intelligent than me, either.

  • @Pacman117productions Pacman, do you think it's cool to calm people down when it's a obvious joke? God you people are the stupid newcomers that's taking down YouTube.

  • the quality at the start wasn't to good, but that might be just the age of the system

  • The 5200 judging by videos and webpages on it seems like the biggest missed opportunity in gaming history.

  • @MattTheSaiyan well, it did have a mediocre graphics improvement, but, if you watch the avgn review, the console is fucking huge! there is a random compartment in it that can hold an effin beer bottle! the controllers never worked, and hooking the thing up was a pain. on top of that, the systen was huge and inconvenient. I don't miss it.

  • You can get a masterplay interface or make a clone (search the internet) that will allow you to use a digital controller like a sega pad or a 2600 stick. It will make most 5200 games better to play vs the analog stick.

  • This game is exactly the same as the Atari 800 version, except on that version you get to use a decent controller!

  • Hey! This is very similar to the C64 port!

  • This is one reason right here to get a 5200, but get the second model so you can get custom controllers for it that have plugs that will fit into the controller ports.

  • pacs the man!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @bellyboy41 I know i am

  • atari ruined gaming

  • @jokerman693 with out atari there would be no games >,<

  • @pichupokemon1010 fair enough.....atari ruined arcade games

  • @jokerman693 no they didn't play asteroids on the 2600 or ms pacman. Lot's of good atari 2600 arcade ports as well as 5200. It was either buy the atari or intellivision game back in the day before 1982 or you had to get a table top stand alone portable arcade conversion that played like a different game for the most part and graphics that looks worse than the 2600.

  • @jokerman693 Lolol. ruined? Son, without atari, nes, snes etc, gaming wouldn't of had existed.

  • @thewhateven Atari didn't crash the market if that's what he means. The lack of control over the games that were produced for consoles did. Everyone else. It would be like if everyone was able to make games for the new consoles. It wouldn't be microsofts or nintendo's fault if that caused another crash. There was beginning to be no money to be had in console games with stores putting most of the games they were receiving in bargain bins for 5 bucks.

  • @thewhateven Thus game companies, all of them, eventually couldn't pay off their debts as it cost a lot to make those carts with precious metals and they were making back way less by 1983 than what they needed to cover it with the competing bargain bins keeping people (since gaming was new and parents were the primary buyers) from spending the 20, 30 or even more per game like they used to just a few years prior.

  • @thewhateven It would be like making ties. If it costs 10 dollars per tie you would have to charge at least 11 to make a profit. Now if it gets sent to a store the store then has to mark it up higher to pay off the costs of running the store as well. Selling the games for 5 dollars a pop may have been alright for the store but it wouldn't have been enough to pay back the game makers thus the 5 dollars was good for gamers but disastrous for the market.

  • @thewhateven That's why you normally don't see new games for under 50. Even though that is incredibly high for what it really costs after the first disk to produce them it's the standard right now. If people demanded less they could do it easily.

  • I have this for the atari 400 computer system and the graphics are exactly the same

  • I used to play this version all the time, but on an Atari 800, which had the same joystick port as the 2600 (you could even plug paddles into it and play games like kaboom). Also not to be missed is the 800/5200 version of Ms. Pac-Man, which was/is an even better conversion than Mr. Pac Man, perhaps the best in the 8 bit realm.

  • LOL who looks up a pacman review,i just did to see if someone was stupid enough to review it

  • It looks like your 5200 is in dire need of an svideo mod to get rid of RF noise on the video out.

  • you can get a ps3 but sooner or later the lens burns out if you play too many blurays with it.but if you're into gaming you should really get the 360.

  • @WalkRobotFilm If you're into gaming you should get a Snes, NES, Dreamcast, Genesis, Atari, PS1, Saturn, N64, etc.

  • ps3 of xbox plz relpy

  • @burpman777

if u like the xbox´s exclusives( HALO gears of war, left 4 dead, etc) chose the xbox.

and if u like the ps3 exclusives (killzone, uncharted, gran turismo 5, or even AGENT from rockstar the creators of GTA and AGENT is gonna be a ps3 exclusive)

i got a ps3 and im very happy with it

    seeya

  • @elgamer95 can you play ps1 and 2 games on it

  • @burpman777

    only ps1 games

    only the 40 - 60 and some 80 gb ps3´s can play ps2 games

    cya

  • @burpman777 slim or fat

  • Damn the 5200 was way better than the 2600. Pac-Man on 2600 was BRUTAL. I had no idea of the 5200 only the 7800 which I would imagine was super expensive then. I wouldnt know was too young (still feel old now though lol)

  • irregardless? I know that one aint sarcasm, c'mon mark step it up!

  • did anyone noticed that PAC MAN does munch sometimes - and sometimes not?

sometimes he munches while eating the dots - sometimes not.

sometimes he munches while moving around without tocuhing dots - sometimes not. seems kinda random. anyways, the hardware behind this game ruins it like it did with every game.

  • @0M9H4X That has to do with the interlacing and the effect of the recording.

  • If Atari had any quality control, they could've survived the video game crash of the early 80s.

  • WOCKA WOCKA BITCHES!

  • my gosh pause at 2 : 12

  • if u r so smart tell me what the atari lynx is and i Know what it is

  • @ All the idiots who ask why Pacmans mouth is'n t always moving. Watch the whole review morons - Mark explains it very well.

  • suuuuure blame the gameplay on the controller

  • @GamerMGO its true the 5200 controllers are have lots of malfunctions

  • why at some points in the game does pac-man slide around like Gumby, not chomping with his mouth?

  • pacman is the best game ever! no game can come close to it

  • what is he difference between pac man and ms Pac man

  • @RGPillows pac man is a man. ms pac man is a woman. It should've been on the kitchen lol

  • Pacman on 1080p ? :O

  • This port is virtually identical to the 600xl version, except it works with better quality on modern tvs and everything is slower. But the 600xl controller is the 2600 controller, so the 600xl version is far superior.

  • pac man fever sound like the best sickens ever could someone plz ingeict me with liquid pac man

  • I found a 5200 at the goodwill for about 4$ so i just had to buy, only problem is, I don't know if it works or not because it didn't come with anything but the console

  • pac man stopped chewing at 1:41

  • FYI 30's dont rock, and 50's are badd

  • whats wrong wih ur screen

  • I'm surprised you got the controller working.

    also 'irregardless'?

  • at least, say to god (chuck norris) thanks for make something best then the pacshit for the 2600

  • you smaaaart

  • What is pacman? Is she fun?

  • Lol sometimes PacMan chews and swallows and sometimes he swallows it hole. XD

  • Not sure if I'm right but I believe Sega Genesis controllers work with the Atari 5200

  • @Graceblood64

thats the Atari 2600. the 5200 has a proprietary connector, instead of standard nine pin cables like the genesis, colecovision, atari 2600, and atari 7800

  • lol! that looks like the worst controller ever. y does it need numbers on it?

  • WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA WAKA. Im Dead. lol :D x

  • Te green ghost is not really green: It is blue.

  • @Super0Andreu0Bros Lol on my PS3 cord that connects to the TV the blue cord broke when i was moving it so blue looks green just like you said. XD

  • @TROPICTHUNDER250 rehash means re-relasing something with little to no difference in a lazy attempt at making a quick buck

or rippinf something off in such a way its pretty much the same

  • @guinnessproduction if you go to the an arcade machine that has both ms.pacman and galaga on it, then put in as many coins as it says and move the joystick in this order:

    up,up,up, dwn,dwn,dwn, left,right, left,right, left.

then wait for the ghost in the corner to change color. start the game ms. pacman and see wat happens

  • is getting 20,000+ points count as "fairly good"?

  • I don't know but did anyone think of trying the NEO-GEO CD controller? It looks like the same plug as the 5200 controller has.

  • I love this game! Pacman, was my first game... And it obviously is still popular! Well you know, if you're the right age... Haha. An easy way to fix the whole control problem. Is I would try to find one of those TV plugin games, that has all the good ol' games, like pacman, and dig dug, and asteroids and all that kind of stuff. You can play it easily, considering it's just an analog stick, and a button. I love it!

  • YYYYYYYEEEEAAAAAA Kick asss into

  • The atari 400 has this same game in its library and the system has aged much nicer over the years, mine still runs like new.

  • lol you super on game

  • even with the 5200 controller u play pac man better than me with a joystick

  • HUGE improvement over the 2600 version.

  • The Datasoft Release of Pacman for the XL/XE XE Game Systems was Identical to the Atari 5200 Version with one Exception. You can use 2600 Controllers on the XE Game System. =)

  • Actually this also looks almost exactly like the C=64 version also.

  • this "classic game reviewer" guy really is not making sense. the controller for the 5200 is IDEAL for Pac-Man, and especially this version. You proved my point by saying, "you need quick, short movements for Pac-Man," which is exactly what the 5200 controller is IDEAL for.

Dude, just get MAME, get an arcade joystick, then see how good you are.

  • @pguest1080 I have it hooked up to my tv as we speak, and I can tell you, it is not ideal.

  • Atari 1600 has a impossible controller. XD

  • I remember playing the Atari 400-800 cartridge, which is the exact same game, but with my beloved Wico joystick. This was such a sensational game at the time. I remember being bowled over by Pac-Man and Missile Command and Star Raiders. That's probably why the 5200 never grabbed my attention. What was the point, I wondered? Oh, well.

  • Why doesn't Pac-Man call the Ghostbusters.

  • @GameReviewsYoshi Because he is the original Ghostbuster. He doesn't need proton packs or traps. All he needs is a power pellet and his chompers. Pac-man Rules!

  • @GameReviewsYoshi I NEVER THOUGHT OF THAT ILL TELL HIM

  • @GameReviewsYoshi i pretty much lol'd when i saw your comment

  • @GameReviewsYoshi Why don't Ghostbusters call Pac Man ? No need for space-time vacuum cleaner of death to capture ghosts. All you need is some bigger Tim Bit.

  • Comment removed

  • @GameReviewsYoshi Good one man.

  • @GameReviewsYoshi idk because he can eat them

  • @GameReviewsYoshi because pac-man is too proud for that.

  • When you get on level four Ms. Pacman and Pacman actually hope in a bed and you can see them humping.

  • watch my review of the magnavox Odyssey 2

  • did you play the google pac man?

  • Telephone + Atari 5200 controller = AtariPhone

AtariPhone (shown above) + Pac-Man Customizing = PacPhone

  • happy 30th birthday pac man

  • furray for retro gaming!!!

  • I like old school gaming, its cooler.

  • @FoxenBPerry im totally the same. ^_^

  • Irregardless? IRREGARDLESS? GAH!

  • The Cover Art Looks Like Pac-Mania.
