Keep working on the trumpet Jimmy, it can be a rather fun instrument to play.

As for how to hold it, your right hand was correct, but your left hand wasn't. For your left hand, your thumb goes above the first valve slide, and the rest of your fingers go on the opposite side of the valve with one finger through the ring on the third valve slide (usually your ring finger)

Check out the videos from "breathing gym", they might help a little bit. =)

I play the trumpet, it's fairly easy. :) Just keep buzzing and make sure the corners of your mouth are firm! :)

heres a tip for the trumpet.... make a buzzing motion with your lips and it will be rather easy

when using the trumpet, use less breath. the trumpet is played with the BUZZ, not the BREATH. only use as much breath as you need to create the buzz with the lips...
