It is pretty small.. But it does not conform to stackable size. That might be on purpose for heat reasons.
It does support 1080P with DTS-MA bitstream the rest of the HD formats pretty well. This is probably the best device I have used since the original XBMC . Everything else I tried did not support HD audio formats.
so I noticed the fact that it plays ISO files. am i correct in the assuming that it will play my ripped DVDs that have not been converted to AVIs yet?
It's a good start, but it seems limited. There are lots of sites that stream the content that I want to watch and I didn't see them listed there. Perhaps when it gets a bit more grown up and adds a search feature or a browse the internet feature, I would be more apt to purchase this. Thanks for the review though.
@jjamendoza I've heard threw some tech blogs on the net, that some people in Mexico, have been able to use a proxy on there computers, and have gotten NetFlix to work, so I'm guessing all you can do is try. If your in Europe, I've been told LoveFilm, is a decent alternative. Trully though Netflix is only good for TV shows, Anime and old movies, new stuff on there streaming side, is somewhat lacking.
For the record, my Boxee Box does work just fine with my old G router. I upgraded to an N recently, though, for faster streaming. Another nice little known feature is that wireless keyboards and mice work great with it. Makes it a bit easier to get around the system, although the included remote is fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend this bad boy. Apple TV doesn't even come close!
Excellent review Paul. I've considered buying a device like this in the past. I hear it doesn't have Hulu support which is unfortunate. Also, if it had DVR capabilities that would be amazing. (Does any device like this exist that can double as a DVR?)
@RockTouching With most routers, it sure is, and the only real reason to have N wireless(unless you have FIOS, or the very limited Goggle Fiber network), is to transfer local files between computers on your network, most highspeed net connections in the US, are around 6mps - 10mps on average. I have a Belkin N150 router, and all my wireless computers/devices are 54mbps G spec, and work just fine.
@RockTouching You could either do that, or just be a student at Georgia Tech in Atlanta GA, where they have 800mbps connections across the entire campus LOL! Truly though, until governments lax on some net laws, and most ISP stop being greedy bastards, and upgrade there networks, we will not see true 1gbps net connections in widespread use anytime soon, here in North America, south America, or Europe.
@linkinpain Definately boxee, roku is good but slightly different, dont listen to the fanboys of apple do ur research and u will see the apple tv fuckin sucks
Op, Dlink stole boxy babe's trade mark...playing with fire that big bad corporation. Why don't they fix the vulnerability in the dsl-2540b , right out of the box the DSL modem was junk...exploitable = JUNK!
only watched cuz of two reasons!
First: Saw a picture of PAUL!
Second: Saw the word REVIEW!

Too much extra crap. I just want to play my mkv files from my nfs share. This thing won't even fit in the stereo case, its not component sized.

@clays121 same here in italy i've got 20 mbit connection but you have to go to Japan to actually take benefits from Wifi N.
