What you don't know is how long was this car offered for sale, how many people did NOT want it, etc. There are plenty of these around watch the Barrett Jackson auctions.
You have to remember parts are only worth money to someone who needs them. Would I like to have saved this car? Hell yes. Would I pay $3000 to save it, and then another $1 to restore it? No. Would I strip it down and wait years for someone to come along and buy a window or a grille for $20? Nope.
That bumper might be worth $3 or $300 but only to the certain number of people on the planet who have a 52 Olds without a bumper and the inclination to travel to wherever this car is, or was.

you tried selling on eBay recently? eBay immediately takes the side of the buyer in any dispute? Can be more trouble than its worth.
Plus how many guys who own these wrecking yards are all that computer literate? Calculate how long it takes to remove, photograph, itemise and store these parts that may or may not sell for a month or more.

Most of the issue isn't shipping (and I don't know you personally at all, so I can't say if it applies to you), it's the retarded prices most of these junkyards ask for said parts. But when a junkyard tells me they want $200 for a clean fender off a car they paid $200 for, I'm probably not gonna buy it.
