This season finale is why Knots was far above the best of the nighttime 1980s soaps. It grew gradually from when Karen first started to believe the babies were alive. It took awhile to unfold but it was worth the wait.
I only started watching the show on a consistent basis at season 9, but this episode still was very suspenseful. My heart was in my throat the whole time.
THAT is what I try to explain to my friends, but they don't get it </3 We're all HUGE Lost fans. And Lost is going into its 6th and final season. Imagine if the series finale is #1, and then it goes on to have 8 MORE seasons and most of them are pretty good? That's what I try to explain in saying Knots is better, but they don't get it <///////////3
wow , waiting the whole summer!!!!!! . Many years later In Egypt Knots aired every day at 9:15 on reruns , which means we didn't have to wait the whole summer , it took us 24 hours to know what happened , the following morning the whole country was obsessed with what will happen at 9:15 pm that night , audiences were glued to their tv sets an hour earlier
I think the slow build up to this moment was excellent, right from Val's adventure in Tennessee to Ava Gardner's appearance. A truly unforgettable season!
The thing that separates Knots Landing from any other nighttime soap is that they built their cliffhangers upon pure emotional drama rather than just suddenly throwing the characters into over the top situations.
Just looooooooooooooooved that storyline. It was my favorite, even though I fell so bad for poor Val, when they stole the twins, when she lost her mind and disappeared. But they are finally reunited. Val is really my favorite character. And I love how you see in the first ep of season 7 that Gary is totally obsessed with her and with being the father of the twins.
Bloopers: The door to Abby's car is closed when she walks over to Gary but after when they show Val walking up to the house the door is still open....Also..The scene with Karen, Mac and Mrs Fisher is obvioulsy filmed separately in a studio and edited to look like they were there. When you see Mrs Fisher from the street view the baby is wearing a different color outfit and has darker hair....Finally when Harry drives by the cars and Abby, Gary and ben are gone..
A very powerful moment and very memorable "Knots" moment. It is arguably the most remembered storyline from the show, but personally it wasn't my favorite, despite it being a very unique and creative storyline.
I loved the Val/Jill storyline and the storylines that resulted from Ciji's murder into Season 5. There is also the Olivia on drugs storyline from Season 8.
Pretty amazing, Classic. But does anyone notice that when Harry's car drives by, Abby and Mac's car--as well as them are gone from standing in front of the house
OH!!!! thanks for posting...i still love this show.....every week it was on my babies were in bed and i had my tv & living room all to myself, to watch the best soap around....
A Classic scene. Thanks for posting. A Classic. Which is what made this show phenomenal. Aliff hanger like that with all the main characters mixed in like that. Brilliant! I can't wait for Knots to come out on dvd for all the seasons. Amazing!
So very, very true. That's why Knots Landing lasted longer than every other America prime-time drama, except (if I'm not mistaken) Gunsmoke and Law & Order.
Gary DID suspect but he wouldn't embarrass Valene with allegations while she was still with Ben. Later, he called Miss Ellie and asked for a picture of himself with his brother Bobby when they were babies. He compared the picture with one of Bobby and Betsy and that is when he knew the twins were his. Still, because he loved Valene and didn't want to embarrass or humiliate her, he kept the secret. Danny Waleska disclosed the truth and, in the end, designed his own demise.
in this clip gary says to ben " you're handling this pretty well , your kids may be in there" so at the time he was still in a comma,he finally realized they could be his when he was holding little bobby when he went to visit,he asked karen 1st but she denied ,then he compared his picture with the twins's picture and said in a loud voice " i know they are mine " but he claimed them to be his own in an indirect way when he deeded half of empire valley to them and embarassed val in public
BUT IN THIS EPISODE ... bEN ASKED VAL TO TAKE HER CAR BECAUSE HIS CAR WAS AT THE SHOP , HE DIDNT TELL HER THAT HE WAS JOINING MACK BECAUSE THEY FOUND THE BABIES , BUT WHY TAKE HER CAR , HOW CAN THAT CONTRIBUTE TO THE STORY LINE , THEN I SAW THE SCENE WERE GARY'S CAR WAS FOLLOWING vAL'S CAR , AND IN ANOTHER SHOT GARY'S CAR WAS ABOUT TO HIT VAL'S CAR INFRONT OF HIM .... I SAID I DONT WANT TO GET PHILOSOPHICAL BUT I THINK IT WAS A REFLECTION OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP
I agree, Donna Mills is one of the most beautiful women ever on TV. But, Joan Van Ark holds her own in this scene and looks beautiful, too. Before she joined Knots she usually played sophisticated beauties in the 70's. It was ironic for Joan that she got the part of a deeply troubled, sort of hick-ish character on this show.
this is a true thing that happens! its not a chain letter! its kinda scary at first but it really works!! paste this message into 3 comments and press ALT F4 and your crushes name will appear on the screen!!! its soo wierd!
Always gave me the chills and always will! Thank you for that. That show is still my #1 after all these years. I wished they'd release more seasons, especially this one: The best!
Primo Knots Landing!!! I love how all the main characters descend on the scene one at a time...man, I wish there were shows of that quality on now. Thanks for the clip.
The finest scene in all 14 seasons. Wonderfully acted (especially by Joan Van Ark) and the culmination of Knots' greatest ever story. Totally love the "always knew they were alive" quote between Abby & Val as well.
That one moment in slow motion when Val turns around was the defining moment in the fourteen years of the series. I sure wish they'd hurry up with the DVD releases!
Mac and Ben chase down Harry Fisher and the baby in an intense 3- to 4-minute car chase scene. Eventually, they realize Harry is not going to stop, so they give up. Meanwhile, Val attempts to beat her way into the front door, as Shiela, we discover a mentally unstable, begins to crack.
interesting note about this episode... when you see abby walking towards gary, you see her car door closed and as you see val walking towards the fishers, you see abby's car door open.
Absolutely incredible stuff! Thanks for posting. Knots Landing really was an amazing show.

Forget Dallas! Forget Dynasty! Knots Landing was the supreme primetime soap of the 1980's and NO ONE can tell me differently!

So cheezy - "THEY WANNA TAKE THE BAY-BEES!"
If I had been Val, I would have gouged that woman's eyes out and ripped out her hair by the roots. Teach her to go around stealing babies.

@kbirdusa
she did not steal them - they were adopted legally , although illegally given to the agency for adoption by the Dr....i felt bad for the parents too.
