If optimized for the wrong keywords, a website could be receiving the wrong type of users - that's what is wrong with my website with a current average 90 percent bounce rate!
@KIBOOMU it's possible (highly unlikely but possible). Could be that you have low traffic in general :S What's your website if you don't mind me asking?
We have a "personality" website we post to daily, mostly for fun and to keep our humor writing, cartooning, and photo skills in shape. For us, topics that are part of a thematic thread have the lowest bounce rate.
For instance, I crocheted a hat last week in honor of Alexandre Bilodeau's Olympic gold medal for Canada and blogged on it, titling it "In Honor of Gold, I'm Making A Bobbled Bilodeau." Three days later, we posted "Bobbled Bilodeau Update," and guess what? A bounce rate of zero.
The video doesn't tell us anything apart from bounce rate equates to the number of people directed and who leave. What they are doing is closing annoying popup windows!!!! They are going to a site DIRECT as links do sometimes steal information. This method is 20 years out of date, look at reasons WHY people will click close and why they ignore pop-ups and adverts. That will answer the question about why no one stays on the sites.
Les exemples donnés sont excellents. Le taux de rebond dépend : - du mot-clé - de la page atterrissage - de l'annonce ou du lien pointant vers le site
he is wrong that bounce rate is a "one size fits all" metric.
bounce is calculated as such: "Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page." Source: Google Help.
thus, you could land on a 1 page rich media site, read for 30min, exit, which would produce a 100% bounce rate. yet the ave time on page is 30 min!
bounce is contextually sensitive like any other metric.
Is there any consideration for visit statistics created as a result of spiders and robots indexing your site? Their visits are less than 10 seconds and visit your site everyday.
ok, well that was simple. Bounce rate is a measure of how many people are coming to your site and leaving straight away. I wonder how they measure it? Is it someone who stays for under 10 seconds?
Its a single pageview on your site within a visit session. Where a visit session is defined as either closing the browser window (not tab) or your session cookie expires within 30 minutes of inactivity on the site.
If you have an E-commerce site you can confirm how bad bounce is by looking at your Visits to purchase report, if a majority of visitors buy within the first visit to your site. A high bounce rate indicates you are throwing money down the drain :(
Bounce rate on my blog site is close to 70%.. Now I should really find out why visitors dont stick around on my pages.. What should I do to make them like it and keep them attracted to my page for somemore time. These are some of the questions which I put to myself after watching this excellent presentation.
Excellent presenter, great simple points well made. Makes me want to find more from him (and if that isn't an indicator of his quality, I don't know what is!)
Bounce rate is useful, but measuring bounce rate for a opt in landing pages provides an inaccurate measure. Here 60-80% may be totally acceptable if I am using SEO for a non relevant keyword and filtering out candidates.
I appreciated this sentence: 'Your homepage is not the homepage of your website.' It's truth, and when I immediately checked the bounce rates of my top landing pages, there was a lot to be improved.
Why is the camera man focusing on the presentor when he should be focusing the camera on the screen instead?? Also, wouldn't it be better if the camera man learns to use his controls to ensure the screen is not over exposed with light so that we can see it clearly??
I found your video on this " freeseoplugin com " site and additional information on SEO tactics which was very helpful. Thanks

I'm glad I understand bounce rate. I thought bounce rate had to do with bad traffic coming from scams or cheater bots.
