I gotta say it's funny watching these hearings. The inmate and her lawyer are shuffling papers, and acting like they're giving a presentation at a board room meeting. They don't seem to get the fact that this isn't just an administrative hearing to those impacted, it's a torturous reminder that their loved ones were slaughtered to death by pathetic losers.

Susan Atkins, Leslie Van Houto , Tex Watson were MODEL Manson FOLLOWERS. They followed evil and did what they were told. Now they are model prisoners and have the nerve to ask for parole. The convicted killer Edward William Gacy was also a model prisoner.
Seems like the prosecutiion got the favorable treatment. All they did was rehash stuff we already knew, sensationalist stuff. The purpose of the hearing should have been how she has done since the incarceration began. Susan was a born-again Christian. Why was the SAME doctor who trashed her the same one who was to question her again? I don't see why the hell Debra Tate should have been allowed to say anything.

Its true the parole boards never given Atkins a fair hearing But Its irrelevent in this case, Atkins & Co were initially given the death penalty but the death penalty was outlawed a year later So they all got "life with parole" (no such thing as life without parole back then) Its not that these hearings are unfair to Atkins the reality is the parole boards just going thru the motions of a hearing because of the "legal technicality" & all parties know it. The way I see it is you either utilize the death penalty, make the sentence devoid of parole possibility BUT if there is parole, actually give the person the chance to show the signs of rehabilitation. Take out the heavy drugs and Manson's manipulation and if she had still done all that then I wouldn't be saying any of this. It's a tragedy in so many ways it's ridiculous.

One of my good friends around the block was butchered along with her mother a couple streets up from my house when we were in high school. They were stabbed repeatedly by a transient that had gone to our school. She was only 17. I read helter skelter for the first time in 1988 and did my own research on and off over the last 14 years.
Literally she was not even the same human being after 7 years, add to that 7 years after a complete change she was physiologically and psychologically a different Susan atkins after a minimum of 14 years and definitely by 19 years taking the original 5 years into account. These are medical facts and interesting that what she had done in the courtroom and PRIOR to the trial was the grounds for keeping her in. People forget what was done to create the monster that existed in 69.
I find it odd that her use of LSD and other drugs was not brought up, add to that Charles Manson's personal influence, the family too, as well as the brainwashing/programming that had gone on. She speaks to the fact that it took 5 years just to begin to think normally. LSD renders a person insane at a certain dose, how could these factors not be brought up 25 years later. This isn't even the same human being.
You can't claim to be a follower of Christ while at the same time preaching an eye for an eye, Matthew 5:38-43 Jesus explains that no longer applies and lays down new commands that he says ARE THE ATTRIBUTES OF THE CREATOR, THE FATHER.

If she is truly remorseful, she would STOP trying to get out on parole. She should take a cue from another former murderer (and serial killer) David Berkowitz. He accepts the FACT that he belongs in jail for his former crimes and (I believe) he is a completely transformed person because of his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. If she is truly remorseful, she would STOP trying to get out on parole. She needs to be grateful that she is even alive today and accept the fact that she DESERVES to be in jail for the rest of her life. I'm glad she found the Lord and I hope that she really IS a Christian, but IF she is, then she needs to ACCEPT her sentence and accept the fact that she belongs where she is for the sake of justice. I hope that she NEVER gets out.

It's hard to see that even after 31 years her sister is still too emotional to even speak...if they had originally given Susan Atins the death penalty and it was oveturned they should have given a life sentence with NO parole to keep these family members from suffering over and over at each parole hearing...that is injustice.

The hearing should have ended right then and there. Susan Atkins should have been paroled. Apparently she gave that family exactly what they wanted.

I believe all the killers are remorseful and would not be a threat to society if release, but the crime is just too horrible and brutal and infamous to allow any of these killers to be released. Since they are truly remorseful perhaps they should accept their fate and life in prison.
