  • i can play this on the piano...such a beautiful song

  • "give me pain if thats whats real, its the price we pay to feel" so true

  • this musical is up there with rent and Les Miserables as my favorite musicals, you have to know me to get how amazing that is.

  • where can i download the songs?

I tried with Ares but it wouldn't let me

  • @FlCoianis itunes.

  • Doing this song for show choir ballad!

    Great Song!

  • If anyone lives in Northern California, I'll be performing in a production of Next to Normal as Gabe. It'll be May/June in Nevada City, CA... come see me!

  • @jackandrew Agreed. There are no happy endings. Everyone deals with pain and loss. And for some people, things just don't get any better... but you just have to learn to deal... some hurts never heal, some ghosts are never gone, but we go on...

  • I have fallen in love with the plot and music of this show. I really hope I can get a chance to see it some day!

  • This show, and this song specifically, changes my life everytime I listen to it. The price of love is loss, but still we pay, we love anyway. There will be light= There is hope.

  • This is the second song from the show I ever listened to, and it had me in tears. The piece, as a whole, and each song, is haunting. There are so many echoes of truth in it, and it takes my breath away each time.

  • "Give me pain, if that's what's real; it's the price we pay to feel." In every piece (and in its entirety), breathtakingly, painstakingly beautiful.

  • @lilmisssunshine263 Could not agree more. The PERFECT song to end the PERFECT musical.

  • Fucking beautiful

  • The lyrics are so great! 'Some hurts never heal' I love that solo! I recently did this song in Intensive Musical Theatre camp and it was very hard but quite fun and beautiful!

  • Gordon used this song for his song, "Shine". I'm almost sure!

  • I miss this show!:(

Hey will you be willing to send me the mp3 to the soundtrack?

  • Damn it, I want this show back!

  • my step mums dying and this is really helping me through it...i don't want it to happen and i have to be strong....this song is helping

  • This song is just beautiful. At the risk of sounding like a cliched youtube comment, this song can make me feel good, and optimistic, even when everything in life is going to shit. "we go on...we still go on -and you find some way to survive..." I love it's gritty realism and acknowledgment of reality, but optimism despite that.

  • @jackandrewl I'm with you. THis whole "I can do anything if I try!" attitude annoys me. I find it completely unrealistic and frankly just stupid. I much prefer things like this where the message is life goes on. Avenue Q has that too. Verry different musicals though XD

  • @sighcantthinkofaname so you did not like billy elliot's ending

  • @AdamEfimoff I actually haven't seen Billy Elliot, or listened to much of the music. I really know very little about it. I was thinking of Wicked when I wrote that.

  • @sighcantthinkofaname right but happy 'endings' can be good but often a loss is deserved or better for thinking such as caroline or change or jersey boys

  • 2 people are vampires.

  • @karlylawl lolz

  • 1 person has no taste in real music

  • We sang this song for a broadway performance, and at that last moment on stage with my friends I cried... It's my fav song, so amazing I wrote a poem with these lyrics :) every time I listen to this song, I cry...

  • i want desperately a tattoo on my wrist that says: "there will be light". this song is so beautiful.

  • it's over.

  • Today will be the last day this song is performed on Broadway...D''':

  • the one person who disliked this has serious problems. i saw this on stage and it was so freaking amazing. i had been listening to the cd for so long before i saw and i knew what would happen, but it was so powerful....i couldnt stop crying for awhile :p

  • I just learned this show in my Musical Theater class and I absolutely LOVE it! The Last Five Years and Next to Normal are my favorite!

  • I saw this on Broadway yesterday with Meghann, Marin, Jason and Kyle. I got chills when they were like "THERE WILL BE... LIGHHHHHT". I felt the music rushing through my body the whole time.

  • Rest in Peace Douglas and Steven Uselton.

  • @laughingperson5 uhm this might be weird but they go to my school :O RIP Doug and Steve Uselton

  • I love this song and this show so much.

  • Saw this a week ago. Cried my way through this song.

  • 1 person doesnt have light.

  • 1 PERSONN DISLIKED THIS?!

    -__________- fail

  • now that i listen to this song, i think of a deceased classmate of mine who wasnt able to find the happiness she craved on earth T.T

  • ...........stuck in head!!! haha <3

  • @StrongBad27 That is the exact song I wanted to use! But My stupid choir teacher is so stupid!

  • hey, did you know that the legible notes at the top of the cover art are the first notes of the prelude?

  • love this song beyond words. cant wait to get there.

  • special in a way that defies possibility.

  • wow this is diff frm our chior version

  • @2Monsterzz YOU GET TO SING THIS IN CHOIR?! NO FAIR!!

  • @Tacoflavoredkiss1 haha im sorry irs a choral melody so it had a bunch of snipts of song

  • @2Monsterzz oooahhhh

  • It's like Sob Sob Sob Sob *song Light comes on* Tears of Joy.

  • This is the greatest song in the world!

  • When I saw this show in New York, after the bows as they were all walking offstage Alice Ripley ran and leaped onto J. Rob's back and he gave her a piggy back ride. Best moment of my life? I think so.

  • I'm so glad they changed the name to Next to Normal from Feeling Electric. And as good as the song "Feeling Electric" was, it didn't match the tone of the show as a whole.

  • I'm obsessed with 3:39-3:44

It just sounds so weird. I love it :D

  • @RollsMcLindsley Totally agree. It's amazing!

  • @devoutlyimmature

I enjoy humming this song, because after singing it you cant get it out of your head, but on my graduation night I want a song that will thank everyone who helped me reach this milestone, or a song about the new challenges awaiting in the future, not about loss, or paying debts, or long nights. Yes it does sound happy about how it "will shine" but I didn't find middle school depressing, so why is it a "long night," and why is high school "light," I mean really...

  • Omg i  this song!!!!! I am singing it fir mu graduation

  • This is a really phenomenal song, but it's kinda depressing. However my choir teacher equates it to being the best thing since sliced bread. So, this is my 8th grade graduation song, which really makes the song suck. I really love this song but it's depressing and, "The price of love is loss," is not really a phrase I want to hear the night I'm graduating.

  • @Tyreasa I must say if you haven't seen the show, this song might not mean as much. I have to disagree that it's depressing though, "The price of love is loss, but still we pay, we love anyway" is one of the most truthful statement I've ever heard. Maybe it's not a happy-go-lucky song, but depressing is a bit much.

  • @devoutlyimmature i did this as part of a camp, and i tried not to cry while singing it. i have yet to see this, but after learning almost everything about it, i really want to see it!

  • @Tyreasa I agree. It is not a graduationy song. Catchy, but not appropriate when the graduating students are all like WHOO! over passing 8th grade.

    P.S. Hey Victowa :)

  • oooo chills!

  • I love this song, but whoever has that ridiculously bright tone is the only thing that keeps it from perfection. I hate bad vowels.

  • this is coming to Seattle!!!!!!!!

  • @graderade It was born in Seattle...

  • @sup9412 I know, but it's coming back.

  • No recording could ever compare to seeing this number performed live. Absolutely incredible.

  • Very truly. The emotional crescendo peaks, the audience sobs at the end of this magnificent show, the greatest I have ever seen of over 700 over 30 years of avid theater-going. See it.

  • ahhh I wanna see this SOOOOOOOO badly!!! I love next to normal!

  • i saw this show a few days ago, i went into the theatre unsure of what to expect. the first thing my friend and i said to each other after the show was..."i really want to see that again...like a lot." it was phenomenal

  • I saw the matinee show the day after Thanksgiving...I was blown away! I cried, I laughed and was totally immersed in the storyline, the music and the characters. An incredibly riveting experience that I will never forget!

  • "The price of love is loss."

wow, that was just amazing, i don't even have words!

  • jennifer's voice is so perfect at the beginning.

  • honestly. i have said "this musical has made me look at life differently!" like for rent and even wicked. but this i mean it this musical is truly inspriring. I LOVE IT!!!

  • This is probably my favorite song lyrically from the show!

  • @koikitten I know!. isn't it so filled with some amazing quotes?

  • Best Musical. Ever.

  • On Sunday, I was basically gone by the time we hit this song. I could not stop crying. It was just breathtaking. Like seriously chills galore. I can't believe I fell in love with this show.

  • OMG beautiful!! sad but beautiful!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS MUSICAL!!!!!!!

  • i cried after this song because the show was over.

  • amazing.

  • Wow this is a brilliant song! Maybe one of the most touching in the show. It reminds me a little bit of One Day More from Les Mis.

  • i thought exactly the same thing! theyre both so epic :)

  • this song is amazing!!!!!! ^_^ gives chills down my spine and is just.....gah! I cant even describe it!

  • this song is amazing.

i love the build up to the powerful and hopeful end.

  • wow. this song gives me chills.

  • I love this! one of my close friends showed me Next to Normal and i instantly fell in love!

  • I almost cried the first time I heard this.

    <3 loveit

  • i disagree "iliketotalk". i find this number to be alot stronger than the workshop version. not only do the singer/actors sound better, but the song has a better arch, in my opinion

  • is this the finale?

  • Yep.

  • compared to the workshop version, i failed to recognize this was "let there be light". really, it underwent a lot of changes. i wish you could upoad "feeling electric" from this album.

  • The only way I recognized it was from the melody and Gabriel's part. Those were the things that were the same from the workshop version.

The song "Feeling Electric" was actually cut from the musical as it made its transition to Broadway. I have a recording of Anthony Rapp singing that song from the workshop, but beyond that I don't have anything. DX

If you wanted me to upload that, I will.

  • if you could upload that, i would really enjoy it... <3 next to normal... <3 anthony rapp...!!

  • do the feeling electric cuts have brian d'arcy james as dan?

  • yes one of them is. it is a video before it went on to broadway :)

  • I want :D

  • I'd love that, as well!

  • @psychickiwibird

Wow, if you could upload Anthony Rapp's version, that would be awesome!

  • @psychickiwibird upload it now!

  • @psychickiwibird could you upload the stuff with Anthony Rapp? I'm dying to hear it!!! :D

  • There are a few uploads of "feeling electric" already on youtube. just search feeling electric next to normal. :)
