I always enjoy this movie when it comes on. Very underrated. It wasn't an Oscar film, but panning it as badly as the critics did was a disservice. It certainly wasn't nearly as bad as they made it out to be.
And I'm a bit sad that we didn't get to see more of the sexy-as-hell Olivia Williams outside of Rushmore on US screens. Critics tend to be a bit harder on movies that they think take themselves too seriously. It's a good thing that noone listens to them anymore.
I lived coeur d' alene idaho in 1997, i was an extra in this movie and my warner brothers paycheck paid for my first computer I was in the scene opposite will patton where i had to walk up and display some "loot" that i had pillaged from a town to the holnist leader, it was funny because i was carrying some gold plated dinner ware and will patton said it was crappy and loot and he didn't want it lol...kevin costner directed me in the part and chose me out of the crowd to do the scene :)
I dont know what your talking about since whites are already the minority in over half of the country so far. Not only that but if America is over, so is the rest of the world b/c right now we have the strongest military and economy throughout all the United Nations so far. My great country lives on. lol uk is over mate, your once great country is still not as great as ours. lololololol
@Battlefronthero I don't know why an American would say that "the Brits aren't that special". As a pro-American with American family, I respectfully question your logic. The United States was geographically and culturally established by the Brits. We share more in common than any other two countries in the world.
If the Brits aren't "that special", then your implicity saying that the United States isn't "that special".
And why does the world continue to look upon race as some type of dividend of whether or not a country is triumphic or fallen? In the U.S., we view all, accept all, no matter what race, gender, religion, etc... you are. For you to make this statement displays your lack of intelligence, knowledge of what the U.S. is, and inability to come to the realization the world should follow the U.S. as an example.
@thanes61 yea right, in america everyone thinks that all muslims are terrorist, gun permit is irresponsible, social security is nil, public health care is chargeable, there is mucher fatties than anywhere, there is much corruption and illegal drug traffic, there is very much murders and gangs. U.S spends tens of million of dollars yearly to militating and death penalty is legal there.
good movie lots of bad acting but the plot good and kevin carried it out alright i mean he wasn't great but this wasn't that bad of a movie like everyone made it out to be
I'm looking at the credits of this movie and I see Kevin Costner as star, director, and producer. The running time is 177 minutes (!) and the budget is $80 million (!!). So we have a man who spent a bank worth of money and nearly three full hours to make himself look like an American hero. If that's not megalomania, I don't know what is. Could you imagine the size of Costner's ego if this movie were a hit?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Ok, this movie was mother fucking retarded. seriously, it sucked, kevin costner is a horrible actor, i just took a shit, and my terds had more charisma, than that fucking loser. He wouldnt be an any movies if he didn't produce them himself.
Knowing how far our country has fallen from true liberty, and how far it has left to fall, this inspires me to hope for a restoration of our country to the ideals of true liberty.
I agree. It is one of the greatest films ranked up there with the original "Planet of the Apes" and "The Omega Man" in my opinion. Everytime i hear about the war in Iraq i can't help but think of that line The Postman says near the end of the movie "Wouldn't it be great if wars were fought just by the assholes who started them." I love that line and this entire movie.
I liked the Postman but the horses in this movie isn't right. It takes a lot of food to feed horses and they didn't have enough to feed the men. How could this really happen?
I bag to differ, This movie shows the very truth about us Humans. That all we wanna do is kill each other...and that the United States is not exempt from any great incident such as a great nuclear war. That there are some people who should maybe not be leading an army or a country. I say this movie is Excellent.
It seems nobody can do good sci-fi anymore these days. Dang it. A reason exists why the genre was so successful in the 50s and 60s. Today even Star Trek put out silly stuff.
Two more years, and we'll find out if the people who thought up this movie have any prophetic abilities. XD

Dahellraider 4 years ago 2
nah, it could'a been good, meaning it had the budget, Costner is a decent actor, and the sets and costumes were good.
This was movie too long, too sappy, little on sci-fi elements, not realistic enough, did not come through with a message.
Take a look at Mad Max movies to see how it should have been done.
