Hahaha! My favorite episode of this great show. Whenever I try to explain NthrnExpsr to someone too young to know it, this is the episode I tell them about ~ this, and the ones with the unexplained bubbles drifting thru town.
This has made me want to build a really big trebuchet for the past 15yrs. Pray I never do.
The first time I saw this on TV, I recognized the music (The Blue Danube) from the opening intro, realized they were headed toward a takeoff of the movie "2001" (oh, the heracy!), then fell down laughing for literally five minutes. This was such a good laugh, I still remember it after almost twenty years.
Outstanding! Out standing! They simply don't make great television like this any more Northern Exposure was once in a life time experience :) God I wish that town was real I'd move instently! :)
love these types of scenes with chris. would like to find more scenes of adam and his rants. also if anyone knows where i can find the scene where adam ant is playing guitar riffs with the locals playing drums behind him
back when it was still vhs tapes, i recorded every show, it took 18 tapes,,northern exposure and the xfiles, they where lined up on that shelf next to each other,ed was my fave on northern exposure
The TV from the dingy flat I was renting in 1998 had some sort of weird malfunction, I could only watch the shows in black and white. I've now got all of the episodes on DVD, but THIS is how I will always remember Northern Exposure. I think the series really drove a lot of teenagers at the time towards real, gutsy, odd and meaningful cinema. Almost every other TV show appears cliche and pointless by comparison.
This fantastic show reached Hungary too and it was the most watched tv shows in the 90s. We used to run home like hell to watch it and my parents loved it too. That is what I call Pure Cinema Magic. Talents, a good script with a beautiful location never go wrong. Go Cicely!!!!
And it's important to mention that Chrix's comment, "It's not the thing you fling, it's the fling itself." is a play on Kant's 'Ding an Sich,' or 'The thing in itself.'
NX was a show that "watched" like a book.
