The XM-214 system consists of gun, driving motor with battery and a 500 round ammo box and weighs approx. 80 lbs. The battery provides energy for firing 3.000 rounds.

Hah. The trouble with a minigun is that the only way you can use it with any mobility is if you have one mounted on an aircraft or powerful land vehicle - which would make you an easy target for radar-guided missiles. No infantryman could carry one of those into a fight.

I believe the one from Pred wasn't as fast shooting as the Thomson Mini. It was a gatling gun, but I think it was maybe a 800rpm type compared to the 2000rpm Thomson Mini, but still impressive. There have been infantry made versions, but hardly in use due to weight. :)
