it is a beautiful routine, so fluid yet controlled, but it wasn't perfect as she took a step on landing and I didn't think her leap showed very extended splits. I've no idea how they scored back then. I find today's scoring system much more effective!

Although I know modern gymnasts do more "difficult" routines, I prefer watching Nadia. Her movements are sooo fluid. Smooth as silk.

Impresiona la aparente naturalidad de todo el ejercicio, como si realmente fuera algo terriblemente sencillo de realizar... En realidad todo el ejercicio se trata de un solo movimiento. No hay interrupciones en el sentido temporal. Cuando parece que un movimiento de una parte de su cuerpo puede llevar al desequilibrio, a la interrupción, el resto del cuerpo sigue ese movimiento... La verdad es que resulta impresionante, en especial por ser un ejercicio "pausado".

thats really easy. i learnt how to do a back walkover on a beam in level 2 and backflip on the beam in level 3. no affence guys but this isnt anything special.... thats why she got a perfect 10 :/

she makes it look effort less, she just glides like the beam is not their, but i have to be honest the routine was kinda boring, no tricks or anything new.

@edwardismyhomie like you know the exercise long bar? the one they walk on dance on and stuff? back then if you look it was a thin piece of wood way.. thinner than today.. today its so darn thick and gymnasts still fall off of it.. back then it was very narrow and the balance had to be almost perfect, now they focus more on muscle performance.. a gymmnast is not all about muscle.. its also about how graciously they move how swiftly look at nadia when she does flips how smoothly she does them :D

Oh my gosh i love this video. And its not just by luck probably like Mary Lou Retton on her vault although she is pretty good, but Nadia has some good talent and she got several 10's on different events, and I read a book about her and she had to do a lot to get to where she was.

Maybe I am wrong and please do correct me if I am but her routine looks easier than what we would see today. I am not a gymnast and I have no idea how hard of this stuff is but after watching the olympics (Shawn and Nastia mostly) and then watching Nadia the girl who got a perfect ten I was sorta expecting more. Is there something I am missing because from what I have heard she is the greatest gymnast of all time.

all these new complicated routines were unheard of in that time. what she did was amazing.

though i did watch shawn and nastia and i agree - they were awesome too! nastia was totally robbed of gold on the bars.

@Stonymypony Like all sports, the level of skill and athleticism through better training methods and sport science gets higher. Nadia was amazing for her day, but the requirements today are extremely high and so the degree of difficulty, or start values, of her routines would be very low, meaning low overall scores in today's gymnastics arena.

@Stonymypony We used to just score on the execution (out of 10)....however now difficulty scores are awarded on top so gymnasts (like Nastia and Shawn) include much more difficult moves but at a cost of the elegance and flow that Nadia shows. Its a fair question though :) xx
