  • First time i ever heard Marty actually pick lead for a song. Thank you from one his biggest fans.

  • so nice to listen to a real footaper .peter.sandy.

  • I was Born in Arica, Chile 1959... But this guy Marty is soooo talented .. so kind .. how many people are missing you my dear friend!!!

  • How beautiful! Did you ever find out the name of the tune? Muchas gracias :-))

  • anybody try Vcasting the song. May not b able to identify it though

  • fantastic!!

  • I have been a fan of Marty since *White Sportscoat and Singing the Blue.

Even when he tried RnR with Long Tall Sally.

But its was the Gunfighter that really shot him to fame.

What A legend in every sense of the word,The word Legend is misused today but he deserved it.

  • And Marty could play too!

  • Fantastic, never saw Marty play like this before, great tune.

  • that is a Spanish style... somewhat mariachi from Spain or Mexico.

  • Super talent

  • This is sweet to watch!!!

    My eyes are wet.

  • No doubt that it is Marty playing. He was also an excellent guitarist!

  • I think it might be Grady Martin playing this tune - but I do also believe it could be Marty!

  • Nope! That is definitely Marty playing. I watched the fingering closely. He could not "air guitar" what was going on. He was a real artist!

  • it is just a spanish melody. probably did not even have a title. but marty is playing it and that makes it special. no one could play and sing like him. he is missed . my favorite singer of all time.

  • It is definitely NOT South Of The Border.

  • I say YES you NO Tell me what it is then

  • the movie "the drifter" if you can find it, probably has the name of this song in the credits

  • @tarquin45 The first few bars sound very much like South of the Border

  • God bless you Marty. You're the best!

  • Video short but sweet,Marty was a true entertainer, top of his game, was as good on the guitat as he was at singing, thank you Tarquin45 for this, appreciated.

  • What a multi talent!

  • NICE and SMOOTH! Thanks for sharing!

  • what is dobro? roy acuff was one of the best also. is your video on youtube?

  • A dobro is a sort of hybrid betwen steel guitar and guitar which has a very distinctive sound. I do not have the video on youtube because of the poor quality of the video tape. I have most of his 'Spotlight' shows which he made in the mid 70's, but unfortunately they are not of the best quality. It's a pity that they have never been put out on DVD.

  • no one will ever sing or play like this man. he is tops. my favorite singer of all time. thanks for sharing.

  • I have a clip of Marty playing dobro accompanying Roy Acuff on 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.' Marty seemed to be able to turn his hand to just anything; he was just a once in a lifetime singer/songwriter/instrumentalist and entertainer. There'll never be anyone as good as him for sheer all round talent.

  • marty was the greatest bar none, his lead guitarist most of the time was grady martin. im sure marty learned a lot from him,i just bought his cd the essentials, now i have them all y00sta

  • Do you have all the Bear Family Box sets, by Marty??

  • Ha ha. Grady was one of the greatest session guitarists of his time. Love Marty though. I don't know that Marty ever sang a bad note.

  • That was blindin! I love it. I've been looking for a piece like that for years. Many thanks.

  • Wow--that's a keeper!

No that's not 'La Paloma', though it sounds similar on part of the melody.

  • South of the Border-Fab

  • what a great video....marty had some chops! Thank you so much for this, really!

  • It certainly is reminiscent of La Borrichita. I agree with you about the release of CD's and DVD's as well. Sony in particular have served Marty Robbins fans very poorly and if it wasn't for Bear Family a whole lot of his recordings would have gathered dust and never seen the light of day. Then again, does anyone buy records anymore when at the click of a mouse they can download stuff legally or illegally?

  • For a moment i thought it was LA BORRACHITA. But maybe I'm wrong. It could also be a medley and that makes it more complicated to find which songs he's playing! Whatever it is, it's just great as always from Marty.

Many thanks my friend for all these great posts and for giving people a chance to hear Marty's 'forgotten' music. It's a big shame they don't officially release more of his music on CD and DVD...

  • It' South of the Border

  • Definitely NOT!!

  • Definitely YES

  • Marty, you will be missed, even south of the border.

  • There is ABSOLUTELY nothing Marty couldn't do and do so exquisitely.

  • I should imagine Marty was self taught. You may like Los Indios Tabajaros or Chet Atkins if you look them up on youtube.

  • Who taught Marty Robbins how to play guitar? It's obviously Mexican, but where can someone find music like this? I want to hear more of it as it's beautiful stuff!

  • I can't agree that it's 'La Paloma' Rory.

  • la paloma

  • As is the normal for Marty .... BEAUTIFUL!!!
