it is just a spanish melody. probably did not even have a title. but marty is playing it and that makes it special. no one could play and sing like him. he is missed . my favorite singer of all time.
Video short but sweet,Marty was a true entertainer, top of his game, was as good on the guitat as he was at singing, thank you Tarquin45 for this, appreciated.
A dobro is a sort of hybrid betwen steel guitar and guitar which has a very distinctive sound. I do not have the video on youtube because of the poor quality of the video tape. I have most of his 'Spotlight' shows which he made in the mid 70's, but unfortunately they are not of the best quality. It's a pity that they have never been put out on DVD.
I have a clip of Marty playing dobro accompanying Roy Acuff on 'Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain.' Marty seemed to be able to turn his hand to just anything; he was just a once in a lifetime singer/songwriter/instrumentalist and entertainer. There'll never be anyone as good as him for sheer all round talent.
marty was the greatest bar none, his lead guitarist most of the time was grady martin. im sure marty learned a lot from him,i just bought his cd the essentials, now i have them all y00sta
It certainly is reminiscent of La Borrichita. I agree with you about the release of CD's and DVD's as well. Sony in particular have served Marty Robbins fans very poorly and if it wasn't for Bear Family a whole lot of his recordings would have gathered dust and never seen the light of day. Then again, does anyone buy records anymore when at the click of a mouse they can download stuff legally or illegally?
For a moment i thought it was LA BORRACHITA. But maybe I'm wrong. It could also be a medley and that makes it more complicated to find which songs he's playing! Whatever it is, it's just great as always from Marty.
Many thanks my friend for all these great posts and for giving people a chance to hear Marty's 'forgotten' music. It's a big shame they don't officially release more of his music on CD and DVD...
Who taught Marty Robbins how to play guitar? It's obviously Mexican, but where can someone find music like this? I want to hear more of it as it's beautiful stuff!
First time i ever heard Marty actually pick lead for a song. Thank you from one his biggest fans.

I have been a fan of Marty since *White Sportscoat and Singing the Blue.
Even when he tried RnR with Long Tall Sally.
But its was the Gunfighter that really shot him to fame.
What A legend in every sense of the word,The word Legend is misused today but he deserved it.

I think it might be Grady Martin playing this tune - but I do also believe it could be Marty!

Nope! That is definitely Marty playing. I watched the fingering closely. He could not "air guitar" what was going on. He was a real artist!

I should imagine Marty was self taught. You may like Los Indios Tabajaros or Chet Atkins if you look them up on youtube.
