Thnx Longo, i'm about to buy mastering unreal technology... so you are saying... that after reading this one I will be able to use unreal to visualisation issues :-)
No worries man. That book comes with a CD as well so you can do the tutorials hands on. Good luck with it, unreal editor can be really frustrating at times! :) A bit of advice- plan how you are going to put your building into the software before you start and try and keep to the grid as much as possible.
There is a really good site called Unrealwiki that might be helpful. Also there is a book called Mastering Unreal Technology that i used quite a bit for mine. Bear in mind most of the tutorials will be for making 'game levels' so you have to adapt them meet architectural means.
and yea man i now exactly what you mean, it kinda makes me mad, im trying to make like stuff like that, but my biggest dificulty is textureing, i fregin hate it. i can never get textures that work with my level, there all like futureistic grrr, which is why i think americas army is the way to go, its got good textures, its free, and its still unreal engine :)
Haha i know man, the existing textures aren't very good for doing architecture. Just make your own ones! That's what i did with mine, I created every texture. I made them in photoshop, make sure they are 256x256, 512x512, 1024x1024...etc in resolution and save them as a TGA(Targa) file. You should now be able to import them! :)
I haven't used any 3dmax models in unreal. It is all created using BSP Brushes. It is possible to import max models into unreal as static meshes but the lighting will not be as good as with BSP brushes. The only static meshes i have used are for the movers(doors & lift) and trees. Hope that helped!

With the UDK available so much more is possible. Free to download, and more advanced. It's the newest version of the Unreal Engine 3.
