I don't celebrate Christmas. As a child I positively HATED the whole 'air' of Christmas and never really took part in any celebrations. You don't have to celebrate any holiday if you don't want to. If you want to and you think you're an atheist, however, I think it's a bit odd… the same goes for going to church while calling yourself atheist…

@vivvpprof - Whoa, a bit harsh, don't you think? Of course you're entitled not to celebrate anything, but I've never lost the love of the fun, decorating and visits with family. That is why I love Christmas. I don't go to church (like some hypocrites, I agree). The pleasure of decorating pagan symbols of the season is, IMO, one of life's pleasures.

@Cissy2cute Yeah I know some people celebrated the holidays when they were young, then they became atheists and now miss the rituals. They lost their faith in spite of the fun that it provided. On the other hand, I never found any fun in decorating the tree or visiting all the relatives whose names my family could remember so this probably might have helped me cease celebrating it. And it had nothing to do with religion, I was too young to have thought of it :)

Hey Pat - just one small point of correction, on the cultural side, Christmass an authentic Christian holiday which was originally celebrated around the 7th of January, using the Julian Calander, and still is by millions upon millions of Christians, this included in western Europe also, as the Christian church tried to make convert the newly arrived pagan tribes, it paid divid ends to 'convert' their festivals also hence the 25th of December which was the solstice. I am glad we did it myself.

While I am religious, I don't celebrate Christmas this way. I consider it a time to embody the spirit and teachings of Jesus, of tolerance, respect, and good will. @zarthered. we celebrate "CHRISTMASS", the name is completly romen cathlic. yes i know of all the other pegan holidays on december 25, but none of them bare the name "CHRISTMASS". wether or not the romen catholics actuly believe this whus the day jesus whus born, babtist christians (like me) just celebrate christmass for the fun of it (like athiusts) but some still celebrate the birth of christ on dec 25, although they do not believe he whus born on that day

I don't celebrate Christmas. As a child I positively HATED the whole 'air' of Christmas and never really took part in any celebrations. You don't have to celebrate any holiday if you don't want to. If you want to and you think you're an atheist, however, I think it's a bit odd… the same goes for going to church while calling yourself atheist…

@vivvpprof - Whoa, a bit harsh, don't you think? Of course you're entitled not to celebrate anything, but I've never lost the love of the fun, decorating and visits with family. That is why I love Christmas. I don't go to church (like some hypocrites, I agree). The pleasure of decorating pagan symbols of the season is, IMO, one of life's pleasures.

@Cissy2cute Yeah I know some people celebrated the holidays when they were young, then they became atheists and now miss the rituals. They lost their faith in spite of the fun that it provided. On the other hand, I never found any fun in decorating the tree or visiting all the relatives whose names my family could remember so this probably might have helped me cease celebrating it. And it had nothing to do with religion, I was too young to have thought of it :)

That was a very good video, I want to argue for the sake of Christmas red wine instead of beer. Red wine is good for the heart and blood-system. Healthy alcohol that is a TRUE miracle!! Modestly priced Italian wine will do just fine. If you are a Christian, you might imagine this red wine being "the blood of Jesus spilled for you".

Hey Pat - just one small point of correction, on the cultural side, Christmass an authentic Christian holiday which was originally celebrated around the 7th of January, using the Julian Calander, and still is by millions upon millions of Christians, this included in western Europe also, as the Christian church tried to make convert the newly arrived pagan tribes, it paid divid ends to 'convert' their festivals also hence the 25th of December which was the solstice. I am glad we did it myself.

For a long time, I've deliberately omitted the 'Christ' from 'Christmas', preferring to call it Xmas, for many of these exact reasons.
Anyone who says it's 'taking the 'Christ' out of 'Christmas'' I tell them straight up that it never was a celebration of Christ, and if they are a true believer, they should fucking know that.
Also, for you pedantic Biblo-linguists out there, I know that 'X' is a sign of Christ, but it's more out of principal than anything else, I still pronounce it 'Crissmuss'.

While I am religious, I don't celebrate Christmas this way. I consider it a time to embody the spirit and teachings of Jesus, of tolerance, respect, and good will. While that sounds thoroughly cliche I believe if everyone just did it, religious or not, we'd all be a lot happier.
