I first heard this song at an Open Mic gig in Bristol, Uk. I think the guy that sung it might have died as he wasn't well at the time. Hopefully not... He did a very good version of it though. It somewhat represents what I love about open mic is that some people pick up on world class songs that rarely, if ever get heard. Much respect as this for me is a fantastic song...

He plays it in DADGAD and most of the chords he's picking are only one fingered...although it is a hard one to master as his picking is specific...took me ages and i still aint got it quite right

It's open C actually (CGCGCE). You can tell because this song is in Eb & he's in the 3rd position.

I actually play this song in a DADGAD varient, DGDGAD (Newton Faulkner popularised this tuning) or DADGAD itself. The chord voicings are identical in these tunings, you just need to get the shapes right.
