  • ObamaObamaObamaObama

  • obama if we want do do such stuff in africa de gov stop us some of us jailed or killed stop the diplomacy we need to kill all the african presidents their freinds and family in order to move forward so obama look into that

  • Weapons, Western based corporations channeling funds to despots and pugnacious factions, Andrew Young and others? Ok, Obama...thanks for the platitudes.

  • I agree with President Obama that, ''Africans are responsible for Africa''

    that is 100% true

  • To the naysayers, Obama: "I'm not a believer in excuses", "Africans should be responsible for Africans", paraphrasing, Africans leaders need to take responsibility for following the rule of law, and putting INSTITUTIONS above individual leaders to improve the standard of living for common people.

How can you complain about this??????????

  • This is not fair. All these countries such as India, China emerging economies as they say are OLD civilisations. India is 15,000 years old. The UK has a 3,000 year old civilisation. Other than Egypt which is disputed by Whites Africa has never had an Civilisation, for trial and error, business etc that is why she needs help from older civisations. So it is not fair to moan about enevitable mistakes the Africans are making in Relation to South Korea! DUH

  • There were numerous African civilisations in antiquity. Ancient Nubia, Ancient Ghana, Great Zimbabwe, The Benin Kingdom, Ife Kingdom, Timbuktu and many more. The Nubians even conquered Egypt under Piankhi.

I encourage you to learn more about the African history, "An Introduction to African Civilizations" by John G. Jackson is a really well written, thorough exposition of the subject.

  • Since when did UK an India become an ancient 1,000 year old civilizations?

Which history books have you been reading???

  • Obama gets it! Today, Africa is doomed by us and our leaders. Serious-thinking Africans know it, nothing new really. Except that now an American President is willing to say what we have always been saying.

  • I was happy on the first part but now I'm quite sad... You can't take responsibility when Western business (not the gov't necessarily) are doing everything they can to control the resources and damn the people.

  • to SquallCloud

And what are the governments in africa doing to stop them(western business)?

Plus who are they(african governments) spending the aid money on?

  • Like I said, I agreed with President Obama on his first part, that aid is not the way and when aid is sent it needs to get to the people and not be filtered through Western fortune seekers and corrupt African polis BUT to just act like Africans are complaining erroneously about Western oppression is just galling coming from a "student of African history". Many of the schools espouse Western ideology and supremacy. Many Afs who want to use their education to help their people get taken out.

  • WOW! - "Africans give excuses on racism and oppression from the west" This is sad coming from the president. As an African American he keeps making claims of African Americans being oppressed by white people. Yet they live in the richest most powerful nation on Earth and still remain poor.

I think the interviewer was pathetic. I wonder if they told him not to ask certain questions.

  • ngalande - He has never said that African Americans are oppressed by white people. Are you making things up or did someone lie to you?

  • to ngalande

Just like Michelle Obama, Operah, 50 cent, Will smith so on...

oh...and all white people are rich!

  • yea he beats into Africans in the US the same way he beats into all Africans

    at home and abroad!!!

Of course it was staged sweetheart!!

the whole Obama affair is one big staged act.

Deceptive and confusing to say the least.

  • so... does Obama words mean you're not going to skim some of the corruption money flowing to Africa? I can see why you are upset. Heavens no, it would not be right to see more of the aid money flow to the people that need it instead of people that don't.

  • This is the most poorly done interview I have ever seen. The president claims to know about African history more than any of his precedessors. Yet his knowledge on Zimbabwe is very limited. The inteviewer failed to follow up with questions on the role of Britain in Zimbabwe. The comparison between Kenya and South Korea is way off the mark. South Korea has been very favored by the west for fear of North Korea.

  • to ngalande

Maybe the comparison would have been better between China and kenya. hmmm...

  • the west can help small countries like Guinea Bissau resolve their internal problems...

  • the west is a big part of africas problem.

  • we send money to our families every time and the government seems to be less committed to genuine reforms...it is hurting my savings for a better future as an aspiring businessperson in my home country. Create an environment conducive to entrepreneurship, and STOP blaming the West, we have heard enough already!!!!!

  • The west may not be responsible for alot of things but it was partly responsible for the toppling of some very key people. People do your research, I dont want to spell it out here but just look at Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and the demise of African Socialism, which to the world's fright is now being championed by Libya's Gaddafi.

  • Agreed on all counts. :/
